Transformers 2

Complete garbage....

The first film was superb..flawed, but superb..
This was just shockingly bad in almost every way..

Made for kiRAB..and seemingly made by kiRAB, considering how poor the script, plot, acting (everything else) was..

I'm not against eye candy in films, but really, Megan Fox was only there to look good..even more so than the first film where she actually had a personality..and she seemed to have this dreamy (dopey) look on her face half the time, which was just freaky..



Devastator.. In the comics, when the Constructicons combine to form him he can stand upright, and it's his huge size that makes him so awesome..here he was less of a character and more a machine who's only purpose was to get at the McGuffin..and the less said about the ball gag the better..

Half the Transformers..well..more than half actually, were given no introduction, so it's very difficult to care about them, but if they wanted to kill off the comedy double act i'd have been chuffed to bits..

I could go on about the peurile humour and what-not..but whats the point in wasting my breath over such a dissapointment..

Plan 9 from Outer Space is a funnier and a more enjoyable movie ride than Transformers 2. Albeit unintentionally.

And comparing Michael Bay's attempt at a summer movie blockbuster to Steven Spielberg is an apt one actually. Because Spielberg knows how to make a proper popcorn movie... As someone had already stated, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark is hardly taxing on the mind.... But it is a fun ride with a PROPER narrative structure that is easier to follow and makes sense in the world that the film is set in. It is properly directed, the action sequences are still a joy to behold.

People make fun of Independence Day, but you know what? Despite the clunky dialogue and wooden acting, it has a simple narrative, and again, the action sequences are thrilling and a joy to watch.... and in the context of the genre, what happens in the film makes sense in a silly way. It's a fun movie- a part from the whole "America saves the day shite".

Transformers 2 is a film that is clearly out of control, there was clearly no script developed whilst they were making the movie; it was made up on the spot. I think ILM did a fantastic job on the special effects, but I think their talent was wasted on the film.

If you want to bring people on a good ride...... Have a good simple story (even if it is predictable), some good directing and some nice acting and set pieces wont hurt at all... And there.... you have the ingredients for a good fun "no brains" summer movie.
 
I thought it was slightly less confusing than the first one (grey robot hitting grey robot while a shaky cam gets very shaky), the robots do have some colour in them this time so they do look more distinguishable. Better than the first but still only a 6/10 from me.

The down side is that Spielberg and Bay still can
 
I'm afraid that with Bay in charge (and seemingly putting his own ideas into the script) you're not going to see much robot character development. Best you can hope for is more crash, bang wallop, more jokes of a sexual nature, more oggling of Megan Fox, etc. Fun, but nothing that'll tax your brain.
 
Saw this with some frienRAB at Waterloo IMAX yesterday and we all thought it was a good fun summer blockbuster with some great action sequences.

Although the full screen IMAX scenes were slightly disappointing as they were quite brief and lacked that WOW factor of those in The Dark Knight.

The humour was very puerile and those twins were just plain annoying but we'd been to the pub beforehand so we laughed a few times.

Overall it gets 7/10 from me.
 
Went to see this last night in an American cinema (have never watched a film with an American audience, they certainly make their feelings clear - clapping the best bits, the start of the film, even melting at Megan Fox's introduction).

As a fan of the cartoon, a big fan of the cartoon movie and of the first live action film I have to say Transformers 2 was fairly disappointing.

The first film seems simplistic to this one in terms of storyline, pacing and spectacle, however this is what made it a good film. Transformers 2 somehow seems unfinished (even though it's very long) almost like Michael Bay shot a lot of footage but it just didn't do well in the editing stages.

The two twins were annoying and definately seemed offensive for the race they were portraying, which is quite clearly African Americans.

I never knew how to feel because everytime a series scene would take place it would be interupted by a lame joke which would produce a snigger at best. The first film did this too but I forgave it because it didn't happen as frequently. This is Hollywood's problem of trying to draw in a large age group and failing to have an overall mood - the twins are perhaps for children but also swear.
Shots of Megan Fox are sexualised and although as a 22 year old male I found this the best part it couldn't make up for the rest of the film. Clearly producers and script-writers have taken into account the response Megan Fox got from the first film, including her win as sexiest female 2008 and writen her role according to that.

It's a shame because this film had the potential to be good, even great but even the scenes of spectacle failed to make up for the messy, long and very thin storyline which tries to hard to please everyone.
 
First of all love...... I'm a she;)

Second of all... Yes I understand it is there to entertain, but it just didn't do that.... Nothing in the movie made any sense... It was definitely made for geeks- or the anti-social folks- or, indeed, the mentally disturbed.... Robots hitting each other is fine.... But if I wanted to just see a piece of entertainment like that..... Then I would watch Robot Wars or something.

This is mass market drivel, wrapped up in the guise of being a popcorn flick....... Personally, give me Iron Man.... Give me Jurassic Park..... Bloody hell...... even give me Independence Day.... As they are all better summer flicks than this cack being served to us.

And by the way........ Shia Labeouf..... Love, quit your day job because you are no Harrison Ford. Stick to playing douchebags. "Action hero" my arse.

Best summer movie so far is still Star Trek for me.
 
Good direction, better character designs, some semblence of a story, good action scenes, funny jokes, nicer vehicles, a better looking female star than Megan Fox...

I'm not even sure it was made for kiRAB..... There were a few scenes.... actually all scenes featuring Megan Fox..... that were perversely ogling at the females characters. It almost seemed like it was a film made by a 50 year old virgin, who's facinated by 19 year old girls skirts..... You know the scene I'm talking about!
 
I think that this whole racism thing is getting blown totally out of proportion. I find it quite amusing how it seems like its only white people that are claiming to be offended by it...

Christ people, it's a stereotype, the first film had an amusing black stereotype in it too (i forget what the name of the Transformer was, but it was the Autobot that got ripped apart by Megatron on top of a building), and there was hardly any "THAT'S OFFENSIVE!!!!!" cries from that.

Apparently the guy who did the voiceover was given free reign to create his own character's voice, and the actor was more than likely a black man. How is this any different to Sacha Baron Cohen's amusing anti-semitism in Borat? (He's jewish taking the piss out of Jewish people and himself, the voiceover actor in TF2 was black taking the piss out of black stereotypes, the only difference being that the characters themselves were verging on Jar Jar levels of irritation, otherwise i doubt people would be complaining the way they are).

I'd like to see how worried you think Megatron would be about yours if he had his fusion cannon pointing in your direction.

The Autobots were just doing what is necessary to protect this planet.

If you don't like it, slip on your sandals, put down your yoghurt knitting, pick up your Guardian and hang out with Leader One on Gobotron or something.
 
I'll disagree with you on that, I think Bay is very good at directing action and the like.



While I would agree that, compared to the classic comic and cartoon designs, the Transformers are not as particularly visually appealing in the films, I wouldnt classify them as ugly. The only problem is the ones that are coloured silver/black, it makes it harder to distinguish the details. the ones coloured red/yellow/green etc are better looking.

I had no problem with shakey cam, and believe me, I have in other films (the second Bourne film springs immediately to mind as a film ruined by such a thing).



Good for Indy and the rolling rock. However, so what? As I said, you wouldnt go to watch a Transformers film for Shakesperian dialogue and Oscar worthy performances, and neither would you to go to an Indy film for such. Doesnt make them bad films.



Meh, you say really really shit, I say awesome. At the end of the day who cares about your or my opinions?
