I am in the uk and have a uk spec 1997 toyota landcruiser colorado 3.0 td that overheats if towing heavy load over a distance or if its driven over 65mph for a distance- ie on a motorway...
It uses no water,is fine around town or under 65mph (approx),if you drive over 65mph and it starts to get hot the temp returns to normal if you slow down..The water pump has been checked-it is excellent, the viscus fan turns fine, the radiator has been removed and checked-water flows through fine.Heater works fine-hot or cold.It is a mystery can anyone help.??

Your vehicle is 12 years old, has it ever had a cooling system flush and new coolant? If the system is sealed properly it should not overheat, however if you are trying to trailer more than what the vehicle is rated for it will overheat. you may need to get a higher capacity radiator, one that can hold and cool more coolant. If you don't have a oil cooler on your vehicle it can also cause overheating. If you are going to to trailer a heavy load then you need to make sure your vehicle is set up for it if it isn't then get the vehicle set up for towing the weight you are trailering, before you cause major damage to your vehicle.

have you checked the water pump to see if its getting lazy, and check your hoses and see if any feel soft or weak, at higher speeds you may be sucking a hose shut cutting off the water flow
