Total Recall-all time classic?

I watched Total recall for the umpteenth time the other night and despite thinking here we go again i have to say that i still found it very enjoyable and watched it right through to the 'eye popping' end, i think that this makes it an all time classic, what do you think?

I must have seen the day after tomorrow at least a dozen times, i'm not sure that's enough reason to class it as an all time classic though.

Total Recall is in no way a classic but different strokes for different folks and all that :)

"You think dis is da real Quaid.. IT IS!

"Consider dat a divorce"

"What DA **** did I do wrong?"

"Give dees peepull ayyyeeer!"

"Get your ass to Mars"

Johnnycab: What is your destination Sir?"
Arnie: Durrriiiiive! Durrrriiiiive!
Johnnycab: Excuse me...
Arnie: Sheeeeet! Sheeeeeeeet!!
Johnnycab: I'm not familliar with that address

Classic :D :D :D

IMO Arnie on Mars is a dream, Hauser's memory was erased to create "Doug Quaid", and at the end the screen turns white.

Don't know if anyone else has said this, but the script title for Minority Report was originally 'Total Recall 2' - interesting. :)

i think it ranks up there with predator, and the terminator as arnold's three best ever movies.

some of the lines in it are classic ah-nuld

"benny! screw you!" being one of my favourites :D

still great effects though for a film almost 20 years old (i remember watching it at the cinema, the audience's jaws were on the floor! ;))

Take this thing and stick it up your nose till you hear the crunch, that was a great scene.

Somehow if they remake it I doubt will will still have the tripple breasted hooker.

Tricky one. In that colour-drenched 80s/90s fantasy sci-fi mould, I suppose it's okay - up there with the other Paul Verhoeven classic Starship Troopers. The best Arnie film *has* to be T2, though. Even The 6th Day is pretty good.

All time sci-fi classic - may be Alien?

Anyone notice TR has some scenes that seem a bit like/pre date The Matrix in several ways? The "take the red pill" scene, and the "bug in your skull".

I love Total Recall, one of MY favourite classics. The effects were amazing for it's time.

I remember a (then) friend of mine trying to convince me that the characters who got shot in the movie where "shot dead in real life" in order to obtain a realistic effect. I didn't believe him obviously lmao. We were only 11, though :D

Yes it was a good film and had some nice ideas for it's time. Good cast, great action and, most importantly, a great story (with a nice twist too). I rate Total Recall as Arnies bronze medal film, behind Terminator and T2 in that order.

True Lies was good.

I still feel T2 is terribly overrated - basically just one huge exercise in the best special effects available, worked around a semi retread of 1984 orignal.

Absolutely.

I'm just watching it again now on ITV1 and it is quite surprising how startlingly similar to The Matrix the ideas in this film are.

The Wachowski brothers must have been heavily influenced by this film.

I enjoyed 'Eraser'. It was a return to a time before Arnie didn't always have to team up with a yank brat in his films.

And Arnie's best film, by some distance, is Terminator.

total recall is a bona fide sci-fi classic i think

for a summer blockbuster it has some great ideas in it. its also one of the last sci-fi films that aren't drenched in CGI

plus the sharon stone / rachel ticotin fight is one of the best catfights on film

day after tomorrow doesn't even come close

I like how the film makes you wonder whether Arnie actually went to Mars and became a hero or it was all in his head, playing the 'game'.
I don't think showing him waking up at the end would've been good though.:D
