Top kill procedure to cut off gushing oil well supposedly under way .

If they vacate the entire fucking macondo prospect into the gulf, people are going to be really unhappy with them

If the top kill fails, they'll attempt the junk shot/top kill, and if that fails, they'll have the top hat ready to put on the top of the BOP. There were talks of putting a second BOP on top of the first one and using that. Other than that I don't know. The ultimate solution is to drill relief wells (already underway) to pump the well full of drilling mud and seal it permanently. Of course, the drilling will take until August, so hopefully something works before that.

I'm wondering if the excess pressure spewing out of that leak is kicking up sand around the leak and that's what we are seeing

If we don't then in 3 to 4 years time everyone will forget and it will happen again and again and again.

woah woah woah, thats overkill

his pinky finger should do the trick, maybe they could hire him to plug the hole while they fix that shit

I am not drinking that much as of late. Should be good times though. I am sad that I am not out there watching the race.

bro you accidentally hit a few 0s 3000 bars will never be encountered in the subsurface , no bop are ever specced to to contain that much pressure

Yea, some of the soil may be washed to sea but it will redistribute itself somewhere else. In the study I read, it was in the wetlands of LA also and the marsh ended up in the same place it was. That doesn't mean it's going to happen now, just pointing out that a past study done on the same subject and in the same area shows no long term difference.

I agree x 10000000000000

I asked a few engineers today what the fuck is going on. Welcome to the way BP works. About as bad as the government. I just want to see the end of this so our industry can continue to moving forward.
