Here is Halliburtons statement to the Senate
TO: All Halliburton employees
FROM: Cathy Mann, director, Corporate Affairs
SUBJECT: Halliburton provides testimony to U.S. Congress
Halliburton is participating in three U.S. Congressional hearings this week in regard to the April 20 incident in the Gulf of Mexico involving the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig.
Tim Probert, president of global business lines and chief Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) officer, will provide information Tuesday and Wednesday to two U.S. Senate committees (Energy and Natural Resources, and Environmental and Public Works) as well as to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce.
During these events, Tim will share Halliburton’s perspective as Congressional members assess the economic and environmental impacts of the tragic accident.
Halliburton, as one of several contractors on the rig, provided cementing, mud-logging, directional-drilling, and measurement-while-drilling services. Additionally, Halliburton provided selected real-time drilling and rig data acquisition and transmission services to key personnel onboard the rig and at various onshore locations.
As a service provider to the well owner, Halliburton complied with the well owner’s instructions on all matters related to the performance of all work-related activities. We are confident that the cementing work on the Mississippi Canyon 252 well was completed in accordance with the requirements of the well owner’s well-construction plan.
Since the blowout, Halliburton has been working at the direction of the well owner to provide assistance in the effort to bring the well under control. This includes intervention support to help secure the damaged well, and planning and services associated with drilling relief well operations. We have deployed survey management experts to assist in planning the path of the relief wells and mobilized our technology group to work in collaboration with another industry partner to combine our technologies in an effort to develop an integrated ranging system to expedite the intersection of the original well.
The Company has and will continue to fully support, and cooperate with, the ongoing investigations into how and why the tragic event happened. The deaths and injuries to personnel working in our industry cannot be forgotten. Halliburton extends its heartfelt sympathy to the families, friends and colleagues of the 11 people who lost their lives and those workers injured in the tragedy.
We will continue to provide information and facts surrounding Halliburton’s work.
The full written testimony as delivered in these hearings will be available publicly on Halliburton.com.
