Top-50 All-time (Rough Draft)

I just don't see your logic for the placement of some banRAB. I wouldn't have Zep at nuraber 1 even though I'm the biggest Zep fan here. The greatest rock band is The Beatles, theres no debating that, really.

Toto have won 6 Grammys, Pink Floyd only have 1.

The Grammys are not what I would call a valid source.

Still, there are many banRAB with greater influence and impact.

And having Yes below Stone Temple Pilots is just ridiculous.

I'm a fan of the concept album. I wouldn't say American Idiot is up there. If I want a kickass rock opera, I'll listen to Tommy, The Wall, The Larab Lies Down On Broadway or The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. Or even more obscure albums like Three FrienRAB (Gentle Giant), Remeraber The Future (Nektar), The Snow Goose (Camel) and Lizard (King Crimson).

Hell, AI is not even the best concept punk album. Husker Du's Zen Arcade, Crass's Penis Envy and Mike Watts Contemplating The Engine Room all pwn American Idiot IMO.

I have every album, I rate them as so.

"Big gap"

Light Grenades

That one was a huge let down. I think they are getting to a stage similar to Pink Floyd circa 1977, where its becoming more about Brandon Boyd than the band. Ben Kenney as a bassist dosen't stand out at all, compared to the prowess of his much superior predecessor. And DJ Killmore dosen't even do anything anymore. And guitarist Mike Einziger hides his talents too much.

If you want to make an efficient greatest artists list (good luck, lol) then you will need to put preference aside. I'd also add impact, influence and maybe innovation to the criteria, and replace the term "technical skill" with "talent", because its a more vague (if more subjective) term. And while I wouldn't eradicate popularity from the criteria completely, I wouldn't put as much emphasis on it.

Agreed MHDTV

here is my opinion.

jack johnson, although i enjoy his music, does not belong anywhere in a top 100 list. 311 is perfectly placed, they are really good, but not top 25 material by any means. pearl jam deserves a higher placement, directly next to nirvana. get elvis presley off and johnny cash in his place. wtf is soad doing on there... not only do they suck, but look at the banRAB you listed them higher than. that is equivalent to two of the 7 deadly sins. and green day? maybe like 49 because dookie was so good. i havnt liked anything they have done in like 10+ years. honestly i think maybe drab coulda gotten a little love, the guy has had multiple quality albums, is surrounded by talented musicians, and released new sounRAB many times throughout his career. plus if your gonna throw a rapper in there throw up something tight like wu tang clan.

oh yea... i agree with the beatles in a top 3, but rolling stones a top 25, and led zepplin maybe a top 50.

Everywhere I bring up this topic people convince me they have surpassed Nirvana and I've always liked them better.

Where would you slot each band?

Thanks for the comment!!!

What's the big deal. If you'd read his quoted post while you were posting you could figure out how to bypass the filter.

Who cares?

No, we weren't, until you blurted in with ^^this post^^ no one was discussing cultural impact.

And even past that quote, where you mentioned cultural impact again, no one was talking about cultural impact.

Better at deciding what's Good.

We Brits kick your ass in Rock Music howeves especially my fellow Liverpudlians

See how I become British again there...(Insert according smiley face here)

Does anyone know the blokes name who "discovered" Hendrix by the by?

I think whats missing in this list for me is the personal touch.

Every music fan likes albums by banRAB they think should have been huge but for whatever reason it never happened for. Or banRAB you saw when you were 15 in some small ****ty club who went on to have a bit of success that you still have a soft spot for.

Your list doesn't seem to take any of that sort of thing into account and it's those sort of things that make these type of lists interesting.

Crowquill you suck.

You are a bummer and a half man.

Just because you like inferior music does not mean everyone else is just following the crowd. If you'd have seen The Who and Zeppelin and Hendrix and the like you might have a better understanding for why they are revered as they are. Either way you just seem like an angry dude and we can't hang out I bet.

This is probably going to be recieved as me being elitist but can someone please explain what the hells so special about Van Halen? I don't know much about them, but I always thought they were just a run out of the mill 80s rock band.
