1. Anne of Green Gables- I know this is a tv movie, but it is made so wonderfully. Whenever, people discuss how bad books that are made into movies are, I always use Anne of Green Gables as an example of film at its best. Enhancing a story. This film and it's sequel are so beautiful, and are my favorite movies of all time.

2.Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind- I am not one for love stories, but even this film touched me. I love things that are out-of-the-box. I thought the story was amazing, and articulate.

3. Do the Right Thing- I think this film is way better than Crash ever could be. It makes you think and it is shot wonderfully. Spike does it like no other.

4.The Sound of Music- I love this movie, the music, the story, everything. Julie Andrews is such a talented actress. They don't make musicals like this anymore

5.Heathers -As much as I love the John Hughes movies, when I think of the ultimate teen movie, Heathers is it. It has everything, and its social commentry about high school is scarily accurate. There are so many classic lines from this film. Love Shannen and Wynona in it!

6.Boyz in the Hood-I only saw this film recently, but it is the first film in a long time that made me want to cry. It really makes you think about violence among kids. In culture where 50 cent is glorified as cool, and kids get shot everyday, this film is so important.

7. The 7 Up Series -I had to include a documentry. I know this might be a bit obscure, but the series is about a bunch of kids that are interviewed at age 7 in England about everything from race to class to the school. The series interviews them every seven years for the rest of their lives. They are now on 49 up. This film is so poignant because it makes such interesting points about who we are and why we are the way we are. A must see.

8.The American President -I love this film. I think it is so underrated. I takes a great look at American Politics and the media as well as a great love story.

9. Clueless Best teen film of the 90s. Classic. Every line is my favorite line.

10. American Beauty I love the social commentary of this film. Amazing study of life in the suburbs.

First 3 movies is from mine favo actor...and I don't like them because River is on it but these are so good movies.

#1 I love you to death This is a true story, I really love this movie. Devo is so cute, And River Phoenix is mine favo actor. Favo Scene...When divo have to shot joey.
#2 My own Private Idaho I think this is much better than BrokeBack Mountain. This movie is so beautiful. I love the scene where all boys are in house and they talk about how they steal the money...
#3 The Thing Called Love I really love this movie, is about Miranda Presley moves from New York to Nashville to become a song writer, played by Samantha Mathis and meets James (River Phoenix). Favo scene...When River and Samantha sings the song "Blame on your heart". it was last movie of River Phoenix.
#4 Pirates of the Caribbean- Who doesn't love Jack Sparrow? Johnny depp is awesome and this movie is soooooo funny. I love every minute of the movie.
#5 Breakfast Club Is so different movie...I just love it.
#6 Walk The line Joaquin Phoenix did awesome job of course Reese too. Mine favo is when Reese and her family help Johnny Cash.

1. The Shawshank Redemption (It's been my favorite since it was released and I was in the fifth grade. Yeah, I recognize a good movie when I see it...even as a kid;))....the rest are in no particular order.
2. When Harry Met Sally. (All kinds of cute).
3. The Green Mile.
4. Road to Perdition
5. Bridget Jones' Diary
6. A Time to Kill
7. A Philadelphia Story
8. Blazzing Saddles
9. Empire Records
10. Airplane I and II

1. The Discreet Charm Of The Bourgeoisie by Luis Bunuel. Well, a masterpiece. Plain and simple. A fierce but funny attack against a parasitical class. Pure surrealism.

The others films are in casual order:

2. Mulholland Drive by David Lynch. It's his finest achievement, a nightmare set in the city of dreams (Hollywood). Fantastic performance from Naomi Watts.

3.The Birds by Alfred Hitchcock. WOW! A classic. Hitchcock was really the master of suspence.

4.The Red Shoes by Powell & Pressburger. An over the top melodrama/musical about art and life.

5.Otto e Mezzo by Federico Fellini. Italy's greatest film, I think, amazing "mise en abyme".

6.Dawn Of The Dead by George A. Romero. Political. Anti-american (yes, it is). Violent. Cruel. The best horror movie EVER.

7.La Régle Du Jeu by Jean Renoir. Cynical view on a dead class (aristocracy).

8.Sunset Boulevard by Billy Wilder. The ending is the best cinematic scene EVER.

9Monsieur Verdoux by Charlie Chaplin. Chaplin's lost masterpiece. Fierce and powerful.

10.Ugetsu Monogatari by Kenji Mizoguchi. The greatest Japanese movie? Yes, probably.

The Bunuel film is IMO the greatest movie ever. The other 9 are some of the best movies ever, but of course my list is incomplete. Just look at it as a "hors d'oeuvre". There were really TOO many films to list. These are just a few.

Hmm my top ten fave films of all time would have to be (in no particular order) -

Clueless - Even though this movies 10 years old, every time I watch it I love it, Alicia Silverstone and all the cast did a great job

Mean Girls - The dialogue was just too funny 'is butter a carb?' :D

The Jungle Book - I had to include a disney film in there!

Saw - Such a scary film, the first was probably my favourite though

The Enemy Of The State - Will Smith was brilliant in this, with the Big Brother stuff, it was scary how the government could be watching so much of you too

Bring it On - I enjoyed this film, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Metcalfe and Eliza Dushku did great

Pirates Of The Carribean - Johnny Depp was hot! Really enjoyed all the performances, I wasn't so keen on the second one though

School Of Rock - Jack Black did such a good job

Dirty Dancing - A classic movie

Identity - This movie had such a good twist at the end

Other greats are Scream, Phone Booth, Walk The Line, 8 Mile

is this 10 ten movies of all time or your top 10 fav movies of all time...i thought there was a thread for your favs...shouldnt this be what you think are the top 10 films of all-time?

1. Forrest Gump - it has everything you could possibly be looking for in a movie, comedy, love, and an incredible journey. It is my favorite movie of all time.

2. Titanic - magical, i love this movie and never get tired of watching it. The love they share seems so powerful, seeing as it unfolded in just like 3 days. I also love how Rose ended up doing all of the things she and Jack said they would do together.

3. Fried Green Tomatoes - i love this movie, the stories and the friendships all touched my heart.

If you couldn't tell I really like movies that take place in the past.

4. Harold and Maude - I have only seen this movie once, but I love it. Probably one of the funniest i have ever seen. it is a cult classic. check it out and thank me later ;)

5. Clueless - i love the 90's and Clueless was a funny movie. I enjoy every minute of it.

6. When Harry Met Sally - say what you want to say, but When Harry Met Sally set the path for many Romantic Comedies, and it is my favorite romantic comedy. I've always loved the idea of having love right in front of you for like 10 years but not noticing for a while. Plus this is one funny movie.

7. The Parent Trap - very cute movie. This started my lindsay fandom (which stopped at mean girls) I really enjoyed the interaction and everything. I was kind of upset that a Parent would actually decide to only know one of her/his children, you would think they would have found a way to keep both children in their lives without seeing each other, a lot.

8. Little Manhattan - it is my favorite movie of the moment, but i think it will always be on my list. I had never seen a love story about 10 year olds before, from the boys point of view. I found it very cute, and would reccomend it to anyone.

9. Grease - I remember watching it over and over again as a little girl. Me and my little brother used to jump on my bed and sing to the soundtrack. I love all the music and Sandy/Danny.

10. Stepmom - not a movie you would find on most people's top 10 list, but it is on mine. I always cry and laugh when i watch it. The relationship that develops between the stepmom and her soon to be step children is great. I love how they end the movie on a note where you don't know if Jackie dies, but you assume it, yet the ending is sorta happy.

1. The Sound of Music - basically for very personnal reasons, but I watched it every day for months on end when I was very young and there isn't a week that goes by without me watching it now. It brings back so many amazing memories of when I was younger and the people I was with.

2. Walk the Line - Johnny Cash is, IMO, the ultimate legend and this biopic hit it out of the park for me. Pheonix brought Cash to life in a way I never thought I'd see!! and well, Witherspoon made that entire movie for me. She was well and truly the icing on the cake.

3. Two Weeks Notice - Hugh Grant = perfection  + Sandra Bullock (who is one of the most wonderful actresses ever!!) all equals to a very enjoyable movie experience for myself!!

4. Pretty Woman - ...because why not!!

5. Cruel Intentions is my guilty pleasure. Wonderful, wonderful movie!

6. Anchorman - :D the most quoteable movie of all time!! lol

Bumping this up because... well... I'm bored.

1. The Boondock Saints I don't think anyone included this in their lists but if you haven't seen it, you definitely should. A lot of people have never heard of it, but its this weird cult classic. It's funny, violent, the acting is great and so is the music. I'm obsessed with this one. Like...really obsessed. Kicka$$.

2. Apollo 13 I know every word to this movie. Tom Hanks is the man.

3. Bend it like Beckham This movie just makes me feel really good and plus I love soccer. The storyline is great and Jonathan Rhys Meyers is beautiful.

4. Bridget Jones Both of them, even though lately I'm liking the sequel a lot. I can relate to this chick so much. Hilarious.

5. First Wives Club Diane Keaton, Bette Midler, and Goldie Hawn... oh my god, this movie is great. Ex-wives getting revenge... sooo funny.

6. Peter Pan (2003) So I'm 21 years old and I don't care that I love this movie. The music is AMAZING, Jason Isaacs is AMAZING, and the kid that plays Peter is so cute. Just a good movie.

7. Bio Dome Umm... I like Pauly Shore. Sue me. So stupid and funny.

8. Pirates of the Caribbean Umm yeah.

9. Wedding Crashers When I saw this in the theatre, I was curled up in a ball in my chair and couldn't stop laughing. Vince Vaughn makes this movie for me. Rule #76. No excuses. Play like a champion.

10. Clueless I know every word to this one, too. Classic.

I'm sure these will all change eventually. I wish I could add a few more. :)

1. Thirteen - I bought this movie over a year ago and I instantly fell in love with it the first time I saw it. It defines everything I love watching on screen and I could relate to it with some of the things I did in the past. For an indie flick this movie was amazing. It was better than I thought it would be and the cast was great. Even Nikki Reed and this was her first real acting role.

2. Freddy vs. Jason - This is like my favorite horror film of all time. Of course it wouldn't have been possible without the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street series' but IMO it is the best one out of any of those series. From the previews it looked good but I was like "2 villains fighting? Seems hard to pull off" but I really think they pulled it off great. I kind of hope there won't be any sequels because it won't live up to this one.

3. Final Destination Series - I can't pick just one in the series. I love them all. I love the idea that death is after the characters. It's different and I love it. Plus the deaths are awesome and I'm a fan of gore in horror movies.

4. Scream - I seem to be listing alot of horror flicks but I can't help it. I love them. I remember the first time I saw this movie I knew it would always be one of my favorites. There is just something about a ghost-mask killer that I find entertaining. The sequels aren't bad but they don't live up to this one.

5. Deep Blue Sea - I love shark movies. Do I even need to say more? Something about this movie made me like it more than Jaws. I think it's the fact that with newer technology they were able to make the sharks look more real. There were more than just one shark, and I liked the cast as well.

6. Titanic - This movie was amazing! They did everything really well. I'd watch it more often but it's so long. I love the parts when the ship is sinking though. Very dramatic.

7. Leprechaun Series - The lep is so creepy but I can't help but love these movies. It's creepy and funny at the same time. My favorite is the first one but I also love the third one (in Vegas) because it's so funny.

8. Halloween Series - My favorite in the series is the first one and Halloween H20. The other's I've seen are just okay but still interesting to watch.

9. Mean Girls - I love the plastics, lol. This movie was able to point out cliques but do it in a non-cheesy way. The cast absolutely rocked too.

10. Urban Legend/3 - I love the first Urban Legend movie and Urban Legends: Bloody Mary. I couldn't really decide which one I like better. I like the cast of the first one. It's more of a slasher flick would I usually love the best but the 3rd one has a little more of a supernatural vibe to it which makes it a great movie.

1. Apocalypse Now - For some reason I really enjoy war movies, and this one is like the epitome of war movies. My favorite scene is when they're at the last US outpost at night, and it's all in chaos. It's so horrible, and yet it's shot so beautifully.

2. The Usual Suspects - The first time I saw this and the fantastic ending I was like, OMGAWESOME!! And the reason that the movie is one of my favorites is that even though I know the ending now, I'm still sucked in every time I watch it.

3. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Everything about this is lovely; the music, the actors, the story. Very bittersweet.

4. American Graffiti - This movie is so funny and sweet, and I like that it doesn't present this totally sugar-coated version of the 50s.

5. The Big Chill - Great ensemble cast here, as well as a great soundtrack.

6. Annie Hall - My favorite Woody Allen movie. I think it's his funniest.

7. Blue Velvet - I used to prefer Mulholland Drive, but after watching Blue Velvet again I really love this one. It's so ****ed up! I love the part with the lip-synching to the Roy Orbison song...something about that scene is so cool.

8. Moulin Rouge - I could watch this a million times and STILL cry at the ending.

9. Memento - The way this was put together is freaking awesome. I've seen it 4 or 5 times and I still can't figure out whether Sammy Jenkis was real.

10. Zoolander - To be honest this isn't even the funniest movie ever IMO, but when you watch it with the right people, it's AWESOME.

1)Moulin Rouge (my fave movie)
2)The lord of the rings
3)A nightmare before christmas
4)Armageddon
5)Pearl Harbour
6)Pulp Fiction
7)Blues Brothers
8)Edward Scissorhands
9)Brokeback Mountain
10)Harry Potter

and the 11th would be "The notebook".

1. Ocean's Eleven Great actors and so good plot!
2. The Breakfast Club It's just great!
3. Silence Of The Lambs So...amazing.
4. Pirates Of The Caribbean Johnny Depp is LOVE
5. Mean Girls teen teen teen
6. Grease Songs are just great!
7. Moulin Rouge The end is sad :(
8. She's The Man good movie
9. Cast Away Tom Hanks did great job!
10. Liar, Liar Always good!

1. A Walk to Remember - I have seen this movie hundreds of times and twice in the theatre when it first came out and I just cannot get tired of it. It was the first time I had ever seen Shane West and I am still a huge fan of his. This is the one case I can think of where the movie and the book are a tie, and the book wasn't better. I liked that the movie was a little more upbeat than the book, as Jamie was well enough to walk down the aisle and when Landon came back, he didn't give his wedding ring back because he had met someone after Jamie's death. All-time favourite scene of any movie I have ever watched: The two places at once scene. I have never loved a single scene in any movie more than that one.

2. Walk the Line - If for no other reason than the Oscar worthy performances and chemistry between Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. Alas, I do have more reasons than that. This movie was just such a wonderful biopic and I definitely think Johnny Cash was more than deserving of having such a spectacular film made for him.

3. Brokeback Mountain - Jake Gyllenhaal + Heath Ledger; where can you go wrong with that pairing? They both really stepped it up in this film. It was such a heartbreaking love story that left a lasting impression on me.

4. Beauty and the Beast - My favourite Disney movie of all time. I just really loved the message behind it, because Belle fell in love with the Beast just as he was and I loved that.

5. The Little Mermaid - Just an all-around great movie. I'm such a sucker for Disney films.

6. The Breakfast Club - The best teen movie ever. No question. It was realistic because they weren't all friends at first, and even though they became friends in the movie, you knew when they were walking away at the end that the next Monday morning at school, it would be like nothing changed.

7. The Notebook - Makes me cry every time.

8. The Lion King - The first film to ever make me cry. I was really young. And honestly, I enjoyed the sequel almost as much.

9. 10 Things I Hate About You - One of the most memorable and recognized teen films of the 90's. And deservingly so.

10. Titanic - Even though I really only liked the second half of the film, Leo and Kate were incredible in it.

Well, seeing that I don't watch that much movies (especially the new ones)...here's what I've got (in order (1 being the highest, 10 being the lowest, and 5 being average  )

1. Halloween Series- With the exception of Halloween H20 (don't get me started  ) Michael gave me goosebumps when I was a kid. Sometimes I would look outside the door to see if he really was standing there waiting.

2. A Tale of Two Sisters- I love Asian films, especially Asian horror...and especially Korean Horror. As a horror movie, I admire it for not being gory and graphic like how most horror movies are these days. They challenge your mind physically. Plus, I was really surprised at the twist in the end.

3. The Breakfast Club- What can I say. I love this movie to pieces.

4. The Phantom of the Opera- The early 90's version as well as the recent version are great. It actually inspired my writing skills. Plus, both actors who played Eric (the phantom) were hot! :D

5. Spirited Away- The company that dubbed this from the original version surprisingly did a good job at it (as most dubbing companies turn successful anime to a load of crap...). I loved the storyline from beginning to end.

6. Dolls- Child's Play 1 & 2 come in second for doll movies but this movie rocked! Dolls that are coming to get you, especially the adults who don't really believe in the magic until it's too late. (Only drawback is Judy who can be sometimes annoying when she's playing with her doll Punch)

7. Schindler's List- Of all the "based on a true event/story" movies I've seen (Pearl Harbor, Titanic, etc.) and despite this being more than an hour long, I thought this was a powerful movie. Liam Nesson did a bang up job playing Schindler. I was surprised that some of the kids in the movie were actually portraying their relatives (or grandparents) when they show the graveyard scene in the end.

8. True Lies- Besides Terminator 2 and Kindergarten Cop, this is my favorite Arnold movie. I loved the storyline and especially when he gives his wife, Helen, a fake mission just so he could add some excitement to her life. Simon was hillarious in pretending to be a secret agent when he really is just a used car salesman (and pees himself up when someone points a gun at him).

9. Not Without My Daughter- Based on a true story, this was actually a good movie on how a mother and daughter try to escape from her abusive husband in a country known for its terroristic activities. Scary stuff but good.

10. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory- Don't ask. ;) But the best line from the movie was when Mrs. Gloop demands Wonka to do something while Augustus is drowning in the chocolate river.

Wonka's response: "Help, police, murder..." (i think he was just mocking her though :lmao: )

I'll do my list a bit different. I'll list my number one (and sometimes number 2) movie in different genres :)

Drama

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind--I can't stand Jim Carrey normally but in this movie I thought he was great. This is one of the best screenplays ever written and the director pulled it off fantastically.

Musical (New/Classic)

Moulin Rouge--Most people hate the fast editing but I'm a huge Baz fan so I appreciated everything about this movie. Plus it has Nicole Kidman who I completely adore.

Singing in the Rain---Gene Kelly....enough said.

Classic

Roman Holiday--Audrey Hepburn, who can resist her! Gregory Peck was handsome. The two of them had great chemistry and it was just a bittersweet movie (the ending makes me angry because they don't wind up together but I do understand why)

Guilty Pleasure

Cutting Edge---Who doesn't not watch this everytime it comes on TBS. I have to literally stop what I'm doing just to watch this corny but fantastic movie.

Animated

The Little Mermaid---I can not wait for this movie to come out on DVD...is it October yet? Ursula is one of my favorite villians and the songs were fun.

Comedy

I wish I could think of a more clever comedy but I'm going to have to go with my true favorite----Happy Gilmore--Classic Adam Sandler. When I was in highschool, my siblings and I would watch this movie at least once a day and it never got old.

Current

The Pirate's series right now are my current favorite movies (This'll probably change when I get my copy on V for Vendetta next week--which was my favorite movie until July 7). I normally don't go for these kinds of movies but there's something about them that I love (and it's not just Johnny) It's pretty much every genre rolled up into 2 (soon to be 3) great movies.

Teen

Clueless---I remember seeing this movie in the theatres 3 times--It was just a fun movie.

Romance

Something New---I loved that the storyline (Black girl falls in love with white guy--what will she do?) wasn't written stereotypically, like most people would expect. The acting and chemistry from Simon and Sanaa was great. It's just a sweet romantic movie.

Foreign

I love Roberto Benigni movies. I think he's a really talented director and writer. So I'd have to pick Johnny Stecchino over Life is Beautiful (Which I also love) it's a fun little mafia movie that involves mistaken identity. It's one of the most laugh out loud movies I've ever scene. Roberto is just so adorable and when he thinks people are out to kill him because he stole a banana (once at the street market and again in the opera house) it just slays me.

Wow this is hard except for number one the others come in no particular order:

1. All Star Wars movies Everything about these movies is amazing, the characters, the story truly a breakthrough movie.

2. Crash the characters are just azmaing, I could totally feel them, as if the things happening to them were happening to me, the story was also fabulous, the car accident is defiantely the best scene in the movie.

3. Pay it forward I really like this movie, its heart warming, it has great actors and the ending is just beautiful.

4. Moulin Rouge Love the songs in this movie, love the cinematogrophy the way the scenes change the coulors used but not so much a fan of the whole story its repetitive.

5. Pride and Prejudice I adore this story, the book is magnificent and the movie does great justice to the book, Keira Knightley is a great Lizzie!

6. Speed this movies is just so exciting, Ive seen it like 12 times and still everytime I see it I get excited truly a great action movie.

7. Matrix trilogy although I have to say the two sequals didnt impress me as much as the first one but these are still amazing movies, they were such a breakthroughin film making all the action scenes are great and the whole philosophy is fascinating!

8. Pirates of the Caribbean this is what happens when three great actors come together in a movie. the performance johnny depp gives in this movie is the best performance I have ever seen and he definately deserved an oscar, Keira Knightly is also good in this movie. so is Orlando Bloom.

9. Phone booth / Cellular since these two movies are so alike I just had to have them both, I especially iked Phone botth because its such a great movie, it makes you laugh, it makes you cry and it makes your heart go pretty fast!

10. Saw the scariest movie Ive ever seen, even though the second one was too gory and my mum banned me from watching horror movies when she watched it with me, but this one is still very well made and extremely smart.

a few movies that I also like:
LotR trilogy, Shes the man, Walk the line, Aviator, Kill Bill2, Cinderella story, x-men, cat on a hot tin roof, abandon

1. The Godfather, Part I and II - In Part I, you have Marlon Brando, obviously. Yet also, in the beginning of the film, Michael telling Kay that the mob and that lifestyle wasn't him, yet at the end, he becomes the very thing he didn't want to become. In Part II, you have the parallels between Vito and Michael Corleone's rise to power were similar, yet contrast. Vito did his business but always had time for his family, yet Michael kept his distance from it. With Part II, it was almost a prequel and sequel rolled into one.

3. Pulp Fiction - It's John Travolta's last great movie. The banter between him and Jackson were hilarious. The nice touch from Reservoir Dogs with Buscemi playing a waiter. I love all the intertwining stories, but also, Christopher Walken's cameo and non-sequitur. Plus, Rhames and Willis kick so much behind with their roles, especially Rhames.

4. American History X - Edward Norton and Furlong were really good in this. It is frustrating seeing Derek as a kid with promise and corrupted because of his father's views, then to reform only to have another tragic event occur in his life. Norton does his role convincingly, but so does his supporting cast.

5. The Usual Suspects - In two words, Kevin Spacey. The ending, and the events leading up to it, were well-played and executed great. It was a great ensemble, especially Gabriel Byrne and Benicio Del Toro.

6. Kill Bill, Volume 1 and 2 - Tarantino may have an insufferable and arrogant ego, but IMO, he makes really good movies to back it up. I love the style, but minimal substance in the first volume whereas the second volume is the opposite. Madsen (albeit slightly bloated since his Reservoir days), Liu and even, Hannah, all great characters, wish they could've done more with their characters. Great story and dialogue, but also the details that makes Beatrix's for revenge more significant. Thurman sells that scene when she sees her daughter is alive for the first time. I'm waiting to see the two volumes combined.

7. X2: X-Men United, Spider-man 2 and Batman Begins: A group of the better comic book adaptations to date. I like the fact that the movies were grounded in realism and were much more than a typical non-stop, mindless action film without being dull. It's the stories that keep you wanting more, that make you care about the characters. And some of the actors just made the characters come to life since they suited the role perfectly, especially Stewart, Jackman, McKellen, Maguire, and Bale.

10. Se7en - Agreed, definitely a great thriller. Kevin Spacey in his last five minutes almost outshine Morgan Freeman, but easily eclipse Brad Pitt. You'd think a movie where the killer murders someone based on the seven deadly sins would be bad and preachy, but it's not. The sloth death (or near death)? Scared the hell out of me. I'm not a huge Paltrow fan, but I thought she was good with the screen time she had.

Thank you to those of you who posted why you like the movies - you rock, especially as your reasons are fun to read and promote discussion.

Boo to the rest of you! :P

Here are mine (made in the last 30 years, only), in no particular order except the first two:

Star Wars - This isn't technically in my top 10 movies of all time because it's in a class all its own. I'm talking about the first one (Episode IV: A New Hope). There's no way to describe what it was like if you're under 35. We had seen nothing like it, and it changed the film industry (for the better) forever. It blew us away - I still remember the section of the theater I was sitting in, and love going there because I can get that feeling again. I was one row away from being under the balcony (because it's California and I worry about debris falling during earthquakes), and when the ships sail overhead it was like they came from behind the balcony and were really there. It was AWESOME - and I wasn't even interested in seeing the movie! :P

Wings of Desire - this film will likely always be at the top of the list because I saw my childhood vision on screen, only from the other side, and it gave me back my humanity. I don't want to give anything away - just see it.

(And now in no particular order)
Apocalypse Now - the definitive film on war, sure, but the definitive film on humanity, too, IMO. I'm passionate about Conrad and Heart of Darkness and consider this a genius interpretation. I also think the making of, Hearts of Darkness, should be watched as a companion film.

The Rapture - see the unedited/director's cut or don't bother. For me this is the film about - well, ostensibly about Christianity, but also about destiny and choice. Plus, young David Duchovny (pre-X-Files)...although he has a mullett for a lot of the film, which is disturbing. *lol*

Pillow Book - I'd rarely advocate a Chinese actress play a Japanese character, but in this case the film is so engrossing (and they do try and explain it away), that I'm totally with it. I'm all about words, writing, and tattoos, and this film is a fantastic current version of an ancient Japanese tradition - and edgy and hot (like The Rapture, too).

Bliss - about a journey out of mental illness to true bliss, through love, understand and sexual healing. ;) Much deeper than it sounds.

Please note that several of the films I mention are extremely graphic - sexually and violently - so watch them with caution.

Last Night - One of the first films with Sandra Oh I'd ever seen. It's the last night on earth for humans - what would you do with your time? An easy premise with an incredibly complex answer and perspective. What could have depressed the crap out of me instead gave me hope for...well, a peaceful ending I suppose, but also humanity if that makes sense.

The Truman Show - okay, so this isn't a sexual noir (like most of my favorites), but when it comes to the issues of identity and humanity, this film rules. The final scene when he says, "Good morning...and if I don't see you again, good afternoon, good evening, and good night." Plus, it's a genius concept.

And speaking of genius concepts:
Memento - not for the depressed, especially considering the ending. This is a dark film that only gets darker, but is absolutely FANTASTIC! What an amazing concept, and it's deftly and artfully pulled off. LOVED it!

The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - oh, not for the romance, per se, but because of the underlying/overlying message of not regretting your past and past choices...that fate plays somewhat of a role, but also when you forget the past you forget everything - even the good - and that's bad. My therapist recommended for me. :P

Let's see...yep, that's 10 - although there's one more I just can't recall right now. I'll come back with it later (since Star Wars doesn't count in this).
