Top 10 Most Important Albums To You

These aren't in any specific order.

Colors (2006) by Between the Buried and Me

Where to begin. The album is an 65 minute epic that covers so many genres it isn't even funny. BTBAM could be best be described as progressive metalcore before this album came out, but now it's hard to know what to call them. This album opened my mind to harsh vocals and how they can be used quite effectively, and that it is in fact possible to have a perfect album. If there is no part of this album that you like, than we can't relate to each other and you should probably go get help for your condition.

Get Out of My Yard (2006) by Paul Gilbert

Another album I find perfect. Paul Gilbert is one of the great guitar virtuosos, but he's not respected for his speed; he's known to write great songs, and he didn't disappoint me here. I seriously have no idea how one person can effuse this much awesome in their lifetime, let alone one 6 month recording period.

Black Holes and Revelations (2006) by Muse

Ha, 2006 is becoming a trend for me. It won't stay that way. Anyway, Muse really left their Radiohead-ish-ness with this album. Matt Bellamy's vocals are beautiful (a lot better than Thom Yorke in my opinion, but I know some people would kill me if they read that) and his guitar work is great. I guess the best way to put it is that he knows when he's reached the perfect balance of sounding catchy and still technically appealing. Chris Wolstenholme fingers are pounding away at those bass strings (I don't know how his hand can take it

Well thats what the quote option is for, but for the record I agree with you. There are plenty of genres or sub genres that arent my thing but there will be certain banRAB or artists from each I do like, or will like I'm sure.

And it isnt witty, its neccessary. You cant just post a quote as it doesnt count towarRAB a character count.

Damned if I could think of 10 albums that are that important to me. In order of appearance though here are 3 that are.

Ziggy by Bowie. Love it to this day. It seemed so important to me back then.
(I'm) Stranded by The Saints. Ditto. I was told by my peers that it was rubbish blah blah blah! I knew different.
Beat by Chris Knox. An album with a personal resonance. He wrote songs about his fathers death as well as love and life and it all hit me to the core on release and still does now.

There must be more that are "important" to me but I am not too sure that they hit the spot likes these three.

In no particular order:

Smash Mouth - Astro Lounge
One of the first albums I ever bought. I remeraber singing along to All Star back in 4th grade... pretty much the reason I'm into music today.
Green Day - International Superhits
Another early album purchase, also one of the first with CUSS WORRAB! I remeraber feeling so dirty while listening to Long View.
Brand New - Deja Entendu
A mutual respect for this band/album was actually an important part of a relationship I was in towarRAB the end of High School. They're also my most played artist on iTunes.
The Faint - Danse Macabre
One of my favorite artists around the time I got my first iPod. ('04 I think?) Though it's not great, Agenda Suicide is one of my favorite tracks of all time for the nostalgia factor.
Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
Another one that takes me back to the good old days in school. All the frienRAB that I shared this album with back then all still love it to death.
The Strokes - Is This It?
I remeraber reading that the album was exceptionally praised by critics everywhere, which marked the period where I started reading music publications and critic reviews.
Led Zeppelin - Mothership
Nostalgia. My father loved to play Classic Rock (everywhere; in the house, car, etc) as I grew up, and as a result, I'm able to recognize essentially every major hit from the 60s and 70s. It wasn't until recently that I made it a project to identify and acquire all these infamous tracks that shaped my childhood.
The Rolling Stones - Forty Licks
See above
Blink-182 - Dude Ranch
I think this album is the reason I begged my parents for an Electric Guitar, which I lugged over to my neighbor's house several times a week so we could "jam" together. (If you could call it that; it was more like loud, incoherent, and obnoxious garble. But it made us happy)
Pinback - Summer In Abaddon
I think this album is the reason I expanded my taste into the softer and more experimental (in other worRAB, not-rock) side of music. Great effin album, too.

edit: f*ck, totally forgot about
Guster - Ganging Up on the Sun
Excellent album, love the band, absolutely need to see them live at some point in my life

Bit of an overstatement dont you think? Yes, its hyped to high heaven, and overrated, but its still a fine album.

I cant help but think people lay hate upon this album because its somehow cool to do so.
