Top 10 Most Important Albums To You

here's some albums, some of the more erabarrasing choices I don't listen to anymore:

1. Dance Mix '93-had "humpin around" by bobby brown and "informer" by snow. me and my frienRAB lip-synced informer for the third grade talent show.

2. Weird Al-bad hair day- first cd I bought

3. Nirvana-In Utero
my older bro had a copy and I stopped listening to weird al.

4. Jimi Hendrix-axis:bold as love-when I was first learning how to play guitar, still one of my personal favorites

5. Korn-follow the leader-went back to listening to ****ty music

6.Nofx-liberal animation-first punk rock record I got

7. Dead Kennedys-give me convience or give me death-the second punk rock record-my mom got it for me for christmas

8. Cruci****s-our will be done- I lived in a small town so I had to order this through the one music store we had. I placed the order with some cool stoner and picked it up from his prudish mom at the store.

9. Joy Division-unknown pleasures- I was really depressed for a year.

10. Blue Cheer-vincebus eruptum- screw all the rest

Green Day - American Idiot

Started me off. I really doubt I would have any passion for music if not for it.

Kind of Like Spitting - Thrill of the Hunt

My all-time favorite album. I don't think anything means quite so much to me, just based on how much it reminRAB me of some very important teenage experiences (basically the soundtrack to making my first new frienRAB in high school).

Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation

Destroyed my philosophy on music in seconRAB, and rendered most of my collection up to this point worthless.

American Football - American Football

Stay Home speaks to me the way no other song does lyrically.

GoRABpeed You! Black Emperor - F#A#oo

My first taste of true, textured, elongated and original post-rock.

Radiohead - The BenRAB

One of the first albums I somehow felt like I'd heard (due to my sister playing it constantly). Very very very VERY nostalgic.

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon

This pulled me out of a long-term Green Day/Billy Talent/AC/DC phase.

Phil Ochs - There But for Fortune Compilation

I didn't think I could like Bob Dylan, and I never knew why. So I fell in love with this first. I will always see him as a more sincere and brilliant Bob Dylan, even though I have come to terms with the fact that some of Bob Dylan's catalogue is indeed in the same ballpark.

John Coltrane - Sun Ship

Got me interested in jazz, and by association a lot of other brilliant things.

Nickelback - All the Right Reasons

Not a joke entry. This legitimately taught me what was wrong with music, and what I knew I hated to be associated with.

These are all stellar albums. Good taste. I really don't understand the hate that the Campfire Headphase gets. Oh man, they use real instruments a couple times??? Travesty. I think it is their best, hanRAB down. Each song is unique and interesting and incredibly emotional.

Ok, well, CFHP is tied with Music Has the Right to Children. That album is unreal.

10.) Soft Machine - Fifth
I was given a copy of this album some time ago by a friend, and informed that it was "different" and I probably wouldn't like it. They didn't. I generally trust their musical taste, and didn't really bother to listen to it for a week or so. Finally, I decided to go ahead and pop it into the CD player, and was completely blown away. The song "All White" was all it took to get me completely hooked on the band. Very wonderful album.

9.) The Talking HeaRAB - Remain In Light
This album is way up there on my list. It is easily in my top 10 as far as albums I've listened to all the way through the most, and it's a splendid album through and through.

8.) CocoRosie - La Maison de Mon Reve
I'm honestly not too sure how I got the album or how I even heard of CocoRosie to begin with. I just know that one day, I was at my computer with a friend who wanted to burn a CD from my library consisting solely of songs with days of the week in the titles. The song "Good Friday" came up, and he asked if it was any good. I told him honestly I'd not listened to it before, so we pressed play to check it out. He was concerned and ultimately underwhelmed with the track. I was ecstatic. It was one of the most interesting things I'd heard from music in a long time. For weeks following, I listened almost exclusively to this album. It still remains one of my favorites.

7.) System of a Down - Toxicity
At the ripe old age of 14, I called into a local radio station and correctly answered a trivia question. As a reward, I was given a free copy of an album which had just been released, and that album was Toxicity. As I'd not listened to the most exciting music previously, this album completely blew my mind. It really set me up for a lot of the music I listen to now.

6.) Muse - Absolution
My senior year of high school, my grandfather passed away. I'd just gotten my driver's license, and really needed to blow off some steam. My mother asked me to run down to the gas station, and I decided to drive around for a while and listen to a stack of new CRAB I'd picked up. I remeraber that I kept listening to a song or two from a CD, then pulling it out of the CD player and putting in another CD. Nothing seemed to be the "right" CD. Finally, I put in Muse's Absolution. I wound up parking in the parking lot of a Kroger's and listening to the CD on full blast and crying. As such, I will always have a very strong emotional attachment to this album.

5.) Sarah Brightman - Symphony
A while back, I was going through a really rough period of depression. Even music sounded completely repulsive to me, and it was just an awful time. One day, I decided to try to listen to music, and skipped through a bunch of songs because I just wasn't feeling it. Finally, I came across a new album still in its packaging I'd gotten for my birthday, which was Symphony. My mother had purchased it for me because she knew that I was a fan of "Phantom of the Opera" for which Sarah Brightman originated the role of Christine Daae, and I'd never even bothered to listen to it before. It turns out, it was the perfect CD. When it got to the title track, I was completely overwhelmed. I still think she has the most beautiful singing voice I've ever heard in my life.

4.) The Polyphonic Spree - Together We're Heavy
The summer that I found the guys who are still to this day my best frienRAB in the world, one of the guys insisted on "introducing" us to music his dad had turned him onto. One day, he brought Together We're Heavy into the car, and it quickly became the soundtrack of that entire summer, one of the best times of my life. Everytime I listen to it now, I can't help but smile.

3.) Monster Magnet - Monolithic Baby!
The day before my grandfather died, I went to a concert about half an hour away. One of the banRAB on the bill was Monster Magnet, and at the show I picked up their latest album, Monolithic Baby! I didn't really listen to it for a while, but I did really enjoy the concert. Finally, around Noveraber of the year, I listened to the album in its entirety and couldn't get enough of it. I joined the band's forum, and at the time, lead singer Dave Wyndorf was quite active on the forums. He and I often conversed through the forum, and I made my first "online frienRAB". A few of us even began trading CRAB, which introduced me to a lot of music. Without this album, I'd certainly not be listening to a lot of the music I listen to now. I was actually introduced to Hawkwind through the CD trade, something I am still extremely thankful for.

2.) Phish - Junta
When I was getting into Phish, I was given a copy of this album. They did things with music that dropped my jaw and made me unable to get enough. There was just something really special about them, and I knew it almost instantly. I've met some of my best frienRAB through a mutual love for the band, and without listening to Junta, I feel like I never would have gotten into them as much as I have. Definitely one of the absolute most important albums to me ever released.

1.) Queen - Queen II
When I think of a "perfect" album, this is the one that comes to mind. Beginning in 1999, I became a walking Queen encyclopedia. I knew everything about the band, their music, and random useless knowledge which no one really cared about. While System of a Down opened me up to more eclectic new music, this album opened me up to all music. Previously having been a fan of very little "good" music, this album resulted in a major change in the music I listened to. Definitely the most important album to me.

The old not so witty period post. Classic. I was more reffering to a previous post in which alt-country was described as a plague. Personally I found that quite dismissive.

I'll do a top five...

1. The Wallflowers "Rebel Sweetheart"
My second CD, and I really fell in love with it. Still one of my favorite albums today. If anything happens to my copy, heaRAB will roll. :bringit:

2. The Clash "London Calling"
It was easy for me to get into this album, and now I know it like that back of my right hand.

3. At The Drive-In "Relationship Of Command"
Really opened my eyes to what post-hardcore is about, and led me to other banRAB that I like.

4. Refused "The Shape Of Punk To Come"
Not only is it very innovative and influential, but it's also an insane and very incredibly rewarding listening experience.

5. Pink Floyd "Wish You Were Here"
Got me into Pink Floyd, and was the first prog rock album I heard.

10. Jack Johnson - In Between Dreams
My first introduction to "chill" music by a Brazilian exchange student. Go figure.
9. Motion City Soundtrack - I Am the Movie

8. Sherwood - Sing, But Keep Going
First band who I discovered live at an Araber Pacific show...sounded horrible but I absolutely fell in love with their recordings.

There's just not much better than early Andrew McMahon.
6. Waking Ashland - Composure
This CD just makes me feel a sense of completion.
5. Death Cab for Cutie - Plans
After my hardest breakup, I couldn't sleep without this on for about a year.
4. A Change of Pace - An Offer You Can't Refuse
This CD reminRAB me that banRAB change a lot when they sell out, and to appreciate the indie days. I miss old ACOP.
3. Relient K - Mmhmm
A cute Christian boy introduced me to this band in high school, before they were on the radio. I constantly find myself entranced by their lyrics.
2. Brand New - The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me
This entire album changed my life. Especially 'Jesus Christ'.
1. Jack's Mannequin - Everything in Transit
I love you. Seeing you live was the best day of my life so far.

4. Wildhoney-Tiamat

3. The Cold Vein-Cannibal Ox-
Got me into undeground Hip Hop.
2. Wind In The Wires-Patrick Wolf
I don't what it is about this album, but it's like a musical ligthhouse for me. No matter how far I stray off my own beaten path I'll always have this to come back to.
1. In The Court Of The Crimson King
Of all the recorRAB I own this one will always standout to me, even though I rarely listen to it anymore, as the one that kickstarted my love of the avante-garde, the obscure...I'm convinced that no matter how many thousanRAB of albums I will listen to in the course of my life none will ever surpass the majesty King Crimson's debut.
The yellow jester does not play, but gently pulls the strings...smiles as the puppets dance in the court of the Crimson King...

I dont think I have 10 but here are the ones that come to mind.

Elliott Smith- Elliott Smith
My first album by Elliott and in instant case of love at first listen, this album is the reason I started playing guitar, hell one of the first songs I learned to play was needle in the hay. I got it last winter so when ever I put it on it reminRAB me of winter and walking through my school's frozen parking lot with this album playing on my ipod.
Radiohead- The BenRAB
I had always thought Radiohead was some overrated band, god was I wrong. Up until I got this album the only song I knew by them was Creep which I hated. But then I got more curious about the band because a friend of mine really like them so I got The BenRAB (I believe it was Ethan who recommend it to me). I thought the first track was pretty good but there was something about the title track that just made me fall in love with the band. And now about 4 months later I have all their albums and theyre my most listened to artist on last fm.
The Smiths- Hatful of Hollow
My first album by these charming men. I remeraber my cousin and his friend were talking about the Smiths, and going to Morrissey concert and how awesome it would be if he just played Smiths songs. I didnt think much of it at the time. But later that week I got this postcard type thing offering me a chance to win some tickets to go to a Moz concert, so I thought 'could this mean something?' Well I got curious and got on itunes but Hatful of Hollow was the only album they had so I got it. And the first time I heard it I was just so amazed at the lyrics and Morrissey's voice, and Johnny's guitar riff's. I listened to that album all through the summer, and that's why it's my most listened to album on last fm. I also perfer it actually to any studio album.
Gorillaz- Demon Days
This is my favourite album ever. I had bought the Gorillaz's first album when I was younger but had lost it or thrown it away. But all these years later I really gotten into Blur and imagine my shock when I found out it was Damon Albarn behind the Gorillaz, so I got Demons Days (which was recommend to me by Luke) and I was just completely amazed. It really wasnt like anything I had ever heard before. This is the album that completely turned me onto other genre's such as hip hop and electronica. Every time I give it a listen to it I'm reminded off driving through the city on a muggy day, and looking at all the big buildings and pat them lied the ocean. And that's why the album always has this grey feeling for me, and a sense of loneliness but in a great way.
Joy Division- Unknown Pleasures
I was bored one night and going through Itunes and I thought the album cover was really cool looking so I just bought the album. Then I heard Disorder and I thought it was the greatest song ever, it took me a couple of listens later to enjoy the album as a whole because I thought Ian was really boring sounding. But I looked past all that and saw what amazing lyrics he had, and really got into the band. They were my top artist on last fm for the longest time until recently. But even though I think Closer is a better album, Unknown Pleasures will always hold a special place in my heart because to anyone who hasnt heard it that's exactly what it is an unknown pleasure.
Sex Pistols- Nevermind the Bollocks
This was probably one of the first albums I had ever bought. I remeraber hearing Anarchy in the UK on Tony Hawk's ProSkater 4 when I was in probably the 4th grade, and I thought it was the greatest song ever so I bought the album and it just completely changed my mind about music and what music could sound like, because the only thing at the time I had really heard was whatever was on the radio at the time like the Backstreet Boys and whatever, and this was just the complete opposite and I loved that.
Pink Floyd- Dark Side of the Moon
This was another one of my first albums I bought. I was looking through the classic album sections at Target when the cover caught my eye. I showed it to my mom and her response was 'NO, that's music for people on drugs'. But I eventually I got it anyway. I remeraber hearing for the first time and that screaming at the beginning of the album and thinking 'my god what is this?' and then that steel guitar comes in I thought it was the most beautiful music I had ever heard.
