Toonzone's Top 50 Animated Show Countdown!

So you are saying that this list is not to your tastes because you wanted your favorites ranked higher and the shows you hated should have been barred from this list totally cause you hate them? Hey, there are some shows on this list I don't like and shows that I do like but were ranked too low, but this list was made according to 22 rabroad members vote's, and people all around have different tastes, so that makes for varied lists.

That, and there was confusion about shows that appeared as shorts and anime.

That said, Spongebob deserved to be in the top 10, but I'm rather dissapointed that the Looney Tunes were supasssed by it in the countdown. All the shows I voted for have been counted already, except for the Simpsons, so I'm curious if not anxious to see what the remaining six are.

Just as The Cartoon said, I strongly disagree as well. HB has made LOTS of great cartoons, many of which TRUMP the cartoons of today. I have 3 HB pre-90's cartoons in my Top 10, and probably about 15-20 of them in my Top 50.

Blasphemy! BURN THE WITCHES!!

Just kidding. :p

Seriously, you're entitled to your preferences of course, but the truth is that there wouldn't have been a Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, or Pinky & the Brain without Looney Tunes, so you have to at least pay respect for the pioneers who made it all possible. The Looney Tunes deserve to be on any top 50 list. At least that's how I feel.

And FTR, I enjoy them all, except for Pinky & the Brain. They were OK as recurring segments on Animaniacs, but I didn't think they worked as the stars of their own show.

Okay, wow, wait up for me.

Full Metal Alchemist: Should've been much higher. Though I'm not going to say that "humorous" is the first that comes to mind.... Still, FMA had great characters, intensive plots, intriguing thoughts, and somehow the varying alchemy techniques actually made it seem like everyone had different powers! I hated the ending, but otherwise, it was one of the greatest series I've ever. I knocked out all 52 episodes in just 2 days!

Scooby-Doo: Should've been higher, but not much higher. I place it about #10. The funny thing is - I actually agree with everyone from that argument, both for and against! But you have to remember something: It's also for kids. If you've never seen it before, and then at age 15, you turn on an episode, you'll probably hate it. But if you're 7, you'll love it. And love it. And love it. And love it.
This show made me want to be a detective. I abandoned that dream when I found out that detectives don't actually chase around goons dressing up as ghosts and ghouls, and that would in fact be quite laughable. The animation is good for the time, and the designs for the background definitely enhanced the mood. And for kids, the mysteries can be quite tough - some, like the Headless Spectre, would even be hard for an older audience. I almost always correctly guess the identity of every new supervillain, but when it comes to Scooby-Doo, I'm stumped. I love Shaggy and Scooby, and Fred and Velma are all right. Daphne's flat.
True, nowadays it's a great target for spoofs, but regardless, it's one of the greatest cartoons out there, and is extremely important to my childhood. The nostalgia alone is enough for me to love it.

Gargoyles: Yay! It did make the list! I honestly wasn't expecting it to be so high up, and thought for a second there that it wouldn't make it, but it did, and hey - I'm not complaining! A great series, I'd put it at about what it got. Great characters, great plots - actual adherence to continuity - and Greg Weisman!

I'm expecting the Simpsons, SP, FG, Futurama, Avatar, BTAS, and JL(U) for sure, but you can't forget TSSM, Spongebob (seriously, he's not gonna just miss the list), and Batman Beyond. Though I have to admit that I'm surprised if X-Men TAS isn't on the list, but Spidey TAS made 41 (I believe), and their popularity is roughly the same, so it wouldn't make sense for it to be so much higher.

As for order? Probably something like:

10. Spongebob
9. Batman Beyond
8. Avatar
7. JL(U)
6. Futurama
5. TSSM
4. BTAS
3. South Park
2. Family Guy
1. Simpsons

I'm thinking Simpsons'll beat Family Guy 'cause everyone's saying they want Simpsons in first and, well - they're the voters!!!

Yay! Family Guy didn't make it as far as I expected! :p
Yeah, no offense to the fans, but I don't like Family Guy at all. It's the kind of humor anyone 13 and up could write.

It's gotta be. I, for one, am pleasantly surprised at how far Avatar's made it - I didn't even think it would make the Top Ten, much less the Top Three! But I'm fine with, as Three is its exact rank on my list. :anime: TSSM, BTAS, then Avatar.

I'm officially sad i didn't know about this in time. just for the heck of it, here's my top 10 cartoons of all-time. caveat, though, I didn't include Family Guy, which you can insert at about 7, and move the others up. I also have included an honorable mentions list.

Honorable mention: Justice League Unlimited, X-Men: Original Series, Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, Superman(40s cartoon), Flinstones, Jetsons, The Batman

10. Tom and Jerry
This is the first influence of Cartoon Network on my childhood. Growing up, i didn't have CN, so when i went to my Grandma's house, i would sit in front of the TV and veg to great cartoons. Tom and Jerry is one of the funniest. Plus, i love cats, so the fact that a cat is one of the stars(even if he does get beat up a lot) is major plus points. I still watch it when i get the chance

9. Batman: The Animated Series
This one has dropped recently for a variety of reasons. First, i haven't really seen too many episodes in a long time. Second, Although the plots were pretty good(and the joker was dead on, love Mark Hamil), there was something usually lacking. It was very dark, which is a plus, but it could go over its head sometimes in a try to be too adult.

8. Wolverine and the X-Men
This show may seem a little high considering it has only been around for one season, but it was an extremely enjoyable season. I like the animation(though Wolverines arms look way too huge). Most of the plots are good, and it is extremely funny. It's greatest downfall is too many solo stories about wolverine, because when they did team oriented stories or stories about other X-Men(such as Nightcrawler) the writing was great. If it can tone down the Wolverine stories, This cartoon can only get better.

7. Batman Beyond
Although not as well loved or widely remembered as Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond was very good in its own right, and in my opinion even better. First, they used all new villains, which shows good creativity. The first season was unbelievably good, and even though the 2nd and 3rd weren't nearly as good, they were still ok, and had great episodes. I did really like how they both modernized Batman as well as bringing Bruce into it in the future. the JLU episode epilogue was really the finale to BB, so i count it among the great episodes in this series.

6. Looney Toons
Bugs Bunny! Another one of my childhood favorites, Looney toons could ALWAYS cheer me up and make me laugh. Whether it was Bugs not making a left at Albuquerque, That Putty Tat trying to get tweety, or Wile E. Coyote trying to catch the road runner for dinner, I always enjoyed my time with Looney Toons

5. Spider-Man: The Animated Series
The best early attempt at super-hero cartoons, Spider-Man mixed humor with action and great storytelling. Although its downfall is mostly of the censors making(guns with lasers, anyone?), It still managed to tell great stories without Peter hardly ever throwing a punch or saying the words die, death, dead, or kill. Yes, the Neogenic Recombinator was a bad idea, but stories such as The Alien Costume show the writer's true creative skill

4. Justice League
For me, the original Justice League will always be the best. JLU was ok, but because of the number of members, the original members and some of the complex plots get lost in the shuffle. The original Justice League featured two of the best Cartoon episodes i have ever seen in Secret Origins(1-3) and the one where they go back in time(with a different Batman, no less). Although it had a couple weak episodes(the Morgan Lafaye one, anyone?) overall it was excellent.

3. Scooby-Doo
And I'd have gotten away with it too, If it only weren't for those meddling kids! Sixteen of the greatest words ever uttered in a cartoon and repeated over and over again, albeit sometimes in slightly creative fashion. Scooby-Doo was my introduction into mystery as a young child, and even today I am hooked on a good mystery. It was always fun to sit down and watch Scooby, Shaggy, and the gang, either in the original Scooby-Doo: Where are You!?, the New Scooby-Doo Movies, Scooby and Scrappy-Doo or other versions of Scooby.

2. X-Men: Evolution
For the longest time this was my number one favorite cartoon. It has everything you can ask for with great animation, comedy, good fight scenes, superb character development, good villains, everything. Even though the first season was slow because it was introducing everybody, it set the stage for an absolutely incredible 2nd, 3rd, and 4th seasons. Each just got better and better as it went along, and the fourth season's episodes with Apocalypse were just epic. doesn't get much better than this series.

1. The Spectacular Spider-Man
Unless you're a friendly neighborhood Spider-man, of course. When i first saw the previews 2 years ago I was very excited, but also a bit skeptical. Thankfully, i had no reason to worry. This Spidey has no censors to bring it down, and it supremely fun to watch. It has as perfect a blend with action and humor as I have ever seen. This cartoon is Brilliant about Spider-Man's quips, he is just as funny as he was in the comics, something no other cartoon or movie has accomplished yet. Hopefully it will get picked up for a 3rd season(and many more) and i will be able to watch for many years to come.

Just curious, the cartoon, how would these rankings have changed things up at the top?

Just because Scooby came out in 1969 doesn't mean that the animation wass good for it's time, after all Disney Shorts and Looney Tunes came out 30 years before Scoob and those had ridiculous better animation tan Scooby-Doo.

I'm predicting:

6. Avatar
5. Futurama
4. South Park
3. Batman TAS
2. Family Guy
1. Simpsons

Of course, I really do not want Family Guy to make it that far. In fact, I'd be thoroughly pleased if it did not make the list at all, but that's not gonna happen....

#6 South Park

I expected to be in the Top 3 so seeing it this low does my heart good. :D Even though I'm not a fan at all of crude humor, I have to respect what the show has done for that genre. I have to admit that I laughed when my friend made me watch it. I think the problem for me may be that I feel guilty enjoying it in comparison to clean humored shows. I think that may be the same for others.

Still hoping to see W.I.T.C.H. high up. It seems fairly well known and popular here, but not sure if it's iconic enough to crack the top 10.

I'm going to post five today.

#25 Death Note

Haven't seen, but it looks pretty creepy and interesting. Everyone who's seen it seems to really like it so I guess I'm not surprised it's ranked so high.

#24 Beast Wars

Toward the beginning of the nominations, this series was ranked in the Top 5 and it looks like one of the most original ideas for Transformers that I've seen.

#23 Hey Arnold!
HeyArnold_promotional_poster.jpg

This one is one of my favorite series ever. The thing that made it so great was that it was relatable. In addition, the writing was amazing and you could feel for every single character, no matter what their personality was like. It seemed set up for another season but unfortunately it didn't get there. I wish it had.

#22 Venture Bros.

I haven't really heard anything on this one at all. I do like the style of animation. It looks just like Johnny Quest, it looks a little bit like a parody though. I might check it out some time in the future.

#21 Animaniacs

One of the funniest shows ever I think. No more time for comments though. Top 20 begins tomorrow.

I know Teen Titans has a lot of fans so I'm not surprised it's on the list but I do think it's way to high. then again i despise the show so being on the list at all is way to high.

Oh and Looney Toons will be up there, ether it batman TAS or the Simpsons will be number one.

South Park might be dirty but its satire is brilliant. Only The Simpsons on its absolute best days is as good as South Park in terms of biting political and social commentary. Disappointed to see South Park ranked below Family Guy...

Those would be "The Savage Time" and "A Knight of Shadows", respectively.

Respectfully, I have to disagree with this. While I thought the animation on X-Men: Evolution was great, I didn't care for the 'Mutant High' makeover the producers gave to the X franchise at all. I realize that the X-Men began their careers as teenagers and I could have dealt with that if the show focused more on the mutants and the powers and half the show wasn't shipper fluff and plots and character archetypes lifted from Beverly Hills 90210. It also never made sense to me how the mutants lived at the Institute but went to public school; people have told me that what made this plausible was how the teens learned mutant stuff at the Institute and academics at Bayville, but if mutants weren't publicly known about until season 3, wouldn't that have aroused suspicion? You'd have thought that some normal person would've started pondering how several of Bayville's students attended one school and lived at another, and then began putting 2 and 2 together. The best thing I can say about XME aside from the animation was that they managed to keep Wolverine from hogging the limelight like he did on the 90's Fox show. XME got a little better after season 3, when the plots became more ambitious, but that time it was too little, too late; the damage had already been done.

But that's just my opinion, which doesn't carry the weight of sunlight; I know a lot of people loved Evolution, so I'm not going to say that it doesn't deserve to be on any top 5 list, it just wouldn't be on my top 5 list, or even my top 20 list.
