Toonzone's Top 50 Animated Movies!

It's funny, I mentioned wanting to check out The Triplets of Belleville and...it was on TV later that night! That seems to happen to me fairly often. Anyway, I'm watching it now. I love the art style! Some genuine laugh out loud moments, too.

I really liked The Cat Returns, but I'm not sure I like it more than the other movie the cat appeared in, Whisper of the Heart.

It's ok, but it's not even the best classically animated Disney movie(that title belongs to Pinocchio) not to mention it pales in comparison to every Pixar movie except Cars and Bugs Life. I like the Lion King, but it didn't even make my list.

The Golden Age was the era of Snow White, Pinocchio, Fantasia, etc. That overall time frame.

The Lion King is from the Renaissance Era, which started with The Little Mermaid.

I finished watchng The Triplets of Belleville today and wow, if it was on my personal list, it would be WAAAAAY higher than it is on this list. I absolutely loved it! To have it so close to Pokemon is shameful! ;) (sorry, Pokemon fans)

To me, I found The Lion King much more enthralling and interesting than Pinocchio. (And several others)

But I honestly don't see it nabbing first.

#18 The Princess and the Frog
200px-Frog_official_poster_500.jpg

I assume that a lot of people who haven't seen this film yet would think that it is undeserving of this ranking. But I would disagree, in fact I'd even rank it a little higher. This is my favorite animated film of this decade and yes, I enjoyed it more than any Pixar films as amazing as they all are. 2D animation came back with a storm. It had all the makings of a Disney classic: Amazing soundtrack, great animation, and a chillingly creepy villain in Dr. Facilier. A shame that it didn't do better in the Box Office because it really deserved to.

#17 The Simpsons Movie
200px-Simpsons_final_poster.png

While I have started to watch a bit of The Simpsons, I haven't seen the movie. I'm a little surprised that it is ranked this high since the later episodes aren't often considered as good. So the movie must have been a big exception.

#16 Who Framed Roger Rabbit?*
200px-Movie_poster_who_framed_roger_rabbit.jpg

This may or may not be considered an animated movie. You don't have to consider this film part of the list if you don't want to. But it got a ton of support anyway, and for good reason. I haven't seen it in a good while, but I know that it's a great film.

#15 The Nightmare Before Christmas
Nightmarebeforexmas200px.png

This was my favorite animated movie as a kid and it's still in my Top 20. I've seen it a ton of times. "This is Halloween" is one of the creepiest and best songs from an animated movie that I've heard. And Oogie Boogie is a great villain.

Yeah, the Simpsons Movie is a HUUUUUGE exception! In fact, that's what got me into Simpsons....

No Azeke, you weren't the only one to put Lilo & Stitch on your list. In order to qualify, a movie needed to receive 21 points, guranteeing that it needed at least 2 votes in order to make it. I mentioned Lilo & Stitch as well as the Lupin III because they received enough points to qualify but were not in the Top 50. It's great for them to get honorable mentions considering around 150 other nominated movies didn't make it at all.

#42 FernGully: The Last Rainforest

#41 The Jungle Book

#40 My Neighbor Totoro

#39 Akira

26. Haven't seen it, but want to.

25. While it definitely deserves recognition, I don't really care for it.

24. Oddly enough, this is the only Pixar film I haven't watched. Maybe it's because of the bad word-of-mouth of just due to a lack of interest.

23. I am kicking myself for not seeing Fantasia yet. Hopefully, that'll change by next year.

22. Saw it when I was a kid and I thought it was all right.

21. It's a tad on the saccharine side, but it was pretty good.

20. I rewatched it recently and really liked it.

19. Definitely a worthy entry in the Bat mythos.

18. "ARE YOU READY?!" Keith David is just completely awesome.

17. The last good thing to come out of the Simpsons in years.

16. Loved it. Christopher Lloyd was great as Judge Doom.

15. Also loved it. Each and every song is like an earworm in how unforgettable they are.

26- Haven't seen it yet, but have been tempted to buy the DVD on several occasions.

25- One of my favorite Disney movies, and the home to one of my favorite Disney musicals.

24- While it is the weakest film that Pixar has put out, I think it stands fine on it's own.

23- A wonderful art house if I do say so myself.

22- Another one of my favorite Disney films. Nice Music, Nice characters, and the Beast is my favorite character.

21- Saw it in theaters and thought it was pretty nice, plan to pick it up tomorrow at Best Buy.

20- Pretty good film all together.

19- Haven't seen.

18- Also saw this in theaters as well during a morning matinee, and it was well worth it, Keith David did steal the show with this one whenever he was on screen.

17- Better than most of the current crop of Simpsons episodes. Still remember seeing this during the Midnight screening, everyone laughed at the same time, and the audience loved it.

16- Oh yeah, another favorite from my childhood. I think it holds up pretty well even to this day. Roger Rabbit is one of my favorite movie characters as well.

15- This would be one of the movies I would put in my top 10 of animated movies. Love the stop motion, the music, the characters, and the story.

Aww. I was hoping Totoro would be top 20. But this is still an accomplishment! It's definitely one of the best children's films, and in my top 5 easily.

Also, I saw Fern Gully in 3rd grade, I've been wondering what the name of it was cause I wanted to watch it again, so thanks!

#18. Haven't seen it yet but the animation and commercials that I saw of it look good.

#17. Pretty good movie. It was better than I thought it was going to be. I might have it a little bit higher but it's about where I'd put it.

#16. I'm not a big fan of the movie but it's still a good movie.

#15. One of my favorites. I like most of Tim Burton's films and I think this is his best animated movie. It's a classic and I'd put it in my top 10.

50. Other than a surprisingly decent soundtrack, the film just doesn't have the same effect on me that it did when I was a kid.

49. Really need to see this one.

48. MoCap Tom Hanks scares me.

47. Aside from Mushu, the film was pretty good. "I'll Make A Man Out of You" is like the Ducktales theme of movies. It'll never go away...

46. I think I might have to rewatch this one soon.

45. Haven't seen it, but liked the song.

44. Haven't seen it either.

43. Eh, I'm not really fond of how it treats Greek Mythology. Still, James Woods is pretty funny as Hades.

42. I just rewatched it a month ago, except there were blue people and robots walking around for some reason. But seriously, this isn't something that's aged well for me.

41. I think the last time I saw this was when I was 3. So overall, I don't remember what I felt about it.

40. Been trying to see more of Miyazaki's films, so I'll probably watch this one sometime soon.

39. I saw part of it, and the animation was fantastic.

Ok. I have not seen or heard of Kirikou & The Sorceress!?

I have not seen South Park or Ponyo..maybe someday on DVD when it comes out.

I'm glad Beauty and the Beast and Batman: Mask of Phantasm, and Porco Rosso are on the list... those were and are some of my favorites! :anime:

I think Pinocchio, Cars, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Who Framed Roger Rabbit? are overrated when it comes to the best of the animation  They did not catch my interest at all...
Of course this list is just some toon zone members views and opinions on the 50 best animated movies according to them. We all have different opinions, that's what makes this thread so much fun ~ ;)

FernGully? Seriously?

Okay, yeah, this list is clearly skewed by people who watched these movies as kids and have nostalgic memories about them, but have not actually watched them again as adults to see if they hold up. I watched a ton of animated movies as a kid, but looking back on them today, I'm willing to admit that most of them were garbage.

:o IMPORTANT NOTE:

I'm an idiot. I accidentally skipped the real #31 and #30.

#30 The Emperor's New Groove
