Toonzone Top 25 manga nominations

Oooh "ears perk up". Thanks for that one. I've been wanting more samurai-themed manga/anime.

Edit: Nevermind. Tried it, but couldn't get into it.

Yeah, Vagabond is awesome, one of the best manga currently out there most definitely, Musashi is such a badass and the plot is pretty cool, and yeah, the art is amazing, only downside for me is that most of that Samurai philosophy they speak of is a load of crap (IMO), but yeah the manga is still amazing.

I'm too tired to come up with a full list now,but I figured I'd mention my favorite manga series....

Maison Ikkoku ....For those who complain that Rumiko Takahashi drags things out too long/doesn't know how to end a series, here's proof to the contrary...At 15 volumes and with one of the best endings to a manga I've seen,it's a romantic comedy about a would-be college student named Yusaku Godai who falls in love with his widowed landlady Kyoko (who married young and is only two years older than him)...Meanwhile,his neigrabroadors seem to do everything in their power to mess up his life...
It's very funny (and also has a bit of drama),plus it's a bit more "down to earth" than her other works (no super powers,aliens,demons,etc)...

I'll come back with more later...

OK, I think I finally have my final list ready

1. One Piece
2. Pokemon Adventures
3. Berserk
4. Case Closed
5. Death Note
6. Dragon Ball
7. Kinnikuman Nisei/Ultimate Muscle
8. Dr. Slump
9. Fullmetal Alchemist
10. Eyeshield 21

Here's my list, I hope I don't go too overboard:

1. DRAGONBALL (Akira Toriyama)
2. Yuu Yuu Hakusho (Yoshihiro Togashi)
3. Di Gi Charat (Koge Donbo)
4. Princess Ressurection (Yasunori Mitsunaga)

OK,here's my full list...

1) Maison Ikkoku (Rumiko Takahashi)...Explained above, great characters,a funny yet touching in some parts story, and one of (if not THE) best endings to a manga I've read...

2) InuYasha (Rumiko Takahashi)...While it's a long series,and some parts were stretched out a bit too far,I still loved it....Probably helps that I love Japanese mythology (well,any country's mythology,really )

3) Ranma 1/2 (Rumiko Takahashi)...One of the funniest manga I've read....

So,yeah I'm a big fan of Rumiko Takahashi....I like Rin-ne so far,but it's too soon to tell if it'll become a favorite of mine....

4) Fruits Basket (Natsuki Takaya)...One of the few manga I've read after seeing the anime...I love the characters, and the story's a real page-turner,with alot of comedy and drama...

5) Fushigi Yuugi (Yuu Watase)....Just like the anime,an addictive series that just pulls you in.....

6) Fullmetal Alchemist (Hiromu Arakawa)....I love that the manga doesn't take itself quite as seriously as the anime (don't get me wrong, there are alot of serious scenes here as well, but it's nowhere near the level of the anime)....plus the four panel comedy strips at the end of most volumes, and the memorials to any characters who die in a volume...

7) XXXholic (CLAMP)....I like most of their works, but this is easily my favorite...Again,more Japanese mythology/superstitions,plus likeable characters...

8) Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle (CLAMP)...I like seeing all the "alternate universe" versions of characters from their other series, plus the new characters like Kurogane and Fai are great...I will admit the series gets kinda confusing later on though...

9) Oh My Goddess! (Kosuke Fujishima)...Just a fun series to read, plus I love the artwork....

10) Naruto (Masashi Kishimoto)...While it takes him forever to get to the point sometimes, and his action scenes are sometimes confusing,I think Kishimoto's a decent storyteller....

Togashi supposedly has serious chronic back problems that started late in the production of YuYu Hakusho that prevent him from drawing.

The man neeRAB to find someone to draw for him is what he neeRAB to do. There was even some (unfounded) rumors that his wife (you know the one who did Sailor Moon?) was gonna pick up the drawing duty. Would have been nice. She did do a few sketches of his character.

Wasn't the reason that he went on such a long hiatus each year due to illness? I mean, in all seriousness and fairness, I HIGHLY doubt that a weekly manga magazine like Shounen Jump which is REALLY strict about deadlines would allow Togashi to continue serialization after such a long hiatus each year if he didn't take the hiatus for a damned good reason. And, also, I highly doubt that he would have enough loyal fans to support HXH's popularity even when its not running in WSJ just so that they don't cancel it before it has a chance to continue, if Togashi were just simply screwing around all of the time and not really taking any of his work seriously.

Besides, Togashi has already proven, IMO, that he can come up with great stories on a weekly basis without taking such long breaks, with a little seris called Yu Yu Hakusho, of course.

Actually, I recall reading in one volume that he wrote that he was ill at ont poitn back then, too, and actually had to draw mosto f the chapters that were featured inthat particular volume from a hospital bed. So, in all fairness, while each and every singe hiatus of his greatly pisses me off, I highly doubt that its a reason as shallow as just being "lazy," since its impossible for any mangaka to get away with something like that in a weekly magazine as big as Shounen Jump.

I thought that LT mixed up Togashi with Miura since the common joke I notice about Miura is that he is an over glorified nerd of some sort, and playing video games bit does sound like something someone joked about a while back at another board I went to. I well know about Togashi being sick, but due to Japan being very vague about saying what kind of sickness it is, it's kind of hard to know what Togashi has.

^^^Oh, i see there are still people who believe that old "he couldnt do it cause he was sick" thing, but really, that is just a myth started by shounen jump (they dont even do it anymore cause people found out the truth) that was long ago busted.

Togashi himself admitted at the end of some of the Hunter X Hunter volumes, not hiding anything, that he was busy going on trips and playing the latest games. Also, he was actually spotted at comic conventions publishing doujinshi by people at the same time when shounen jump was still claiming he was too sick to draw (which they no longer do).

Let me show you something: pay attention to whats in bold

Though popular, hiatuses are extremely frequent. (Since 1999 there has always
been 10 or more issues of hiatus.) When it appeared in the magazine it frequently
was in rough pictures, almost like that of a Name, and appeared with almost
no backgrounRAB. This tendency was seen from the end of "Yuu Yuu Hakusho",
but by the frequent appearance of the under sketches appearing as the actual
work, criticisms and complaints arose.

Also, the reason for the hiatuses was mainly written as "because of sudden illness of the author", but the author's comments at the end of the volumes wrote, not hiding anything, that he was playing the latest games and going on trips. As well, he had been participating in doujinshi sales exhibitions in the comic market, he was confirmed seen publishing doujinshi. Because of this, the reason for the hiatuses and the truth not being clear, and so that it wouldn't be "Many hiatuses = Cancellation", the editorial department became a target of criticism and complaints. Though the rough pictures in the magazine were fixed in the volume versions, in order to do refined work, the serialization in the magazine was put on hiatuses, having this tendency to have their priorities backwarRAB. Gradually the reason of "sudden illness" decreased, and it became "circumstances of the author".

From issue 50 of 2005 with the reason of "illness" it went on hiatus. Though
it started again in issue 8 of 2006, in issue 11, its appearance ended with
a hiatus for an extended amount of time. At first it was planned to be resumed
in April of 2006, but this did not occur, and there was no explanation about
a hiatus from the publisher nor a notice in Jump itself. Mangas which have
breaks in serialization in other magazines are extremely few in nuraber.
Though for a manga to have an extended hiatus of over a year overall not
extremely rare over the entire manga industry, though for the major magazine
"Weekly Jump", a hiatus lasting over 70 weeks is an extreme exception to
the norm.

And in issue 44 of 2007, there was suddenly a notice that serialization
would continue. It appeared in the form of 10 consecutive issues until issue
2 of 2008. Two days before this resumption, on October 4th 2007, Volume
24, the previous volume's worth of manga from 1 year and 7 months previous
went on sale. From here on, there have been serializations with hiatuses
interposed.

Well, that's actually the first time that I heard about that, but whatever. I still say that Togashi has proven that he can come up with consistent quality manga on a weekly basis with YYH and the very first half of HXH (before he even started going on a hiatus each and every single year). And that info doesn't really change much for me, actually, because I was already pissed off at each hiatus, so even though I now know that he's goofing off, it doesn't really affect me since I already have a problem with each hiatus in the 1st place.

Even so, HXH is still my favorite "current" shounen series out there. Even though it comes out on such an inconsistent basis, Togashi never loses consistency in its quality. Still, I'm glad that he never did this with YYH, otherwise the manga still wouldn't be done by today.

While it's definitely not the greatest written or drawn manga (far from it actually), I just can't get enough of Oishinbo. I love food and I think reading this manga has raised my standarRAB about what constitutes good food...just a tad, though.

I'm the only one giving love to the Nausicaa manga?

I'm guessing a large amount of you haven't read it, it's a masterful story from master Miyazaki and fleshes out the movie to tremendous degrees. The movie is only an adaptation of the first third or half of the manga, which he continued to write on and off for ten years after the movie. Just think about it, the army that invaded the valley were at war with somebody, right? What was that all about?

It would make a TREMENDOUS anime series... except for the fact that it would require retelling the movie which is already a masterpiece. analogous to the mini-series of Dune ten years ago. Sure it's more faithful to the story and a treat for the geeks but the David Lynch movie is the one that people will really remeraber.

I admit though, I would not have searched it out if not for the fact that it was at my local library.

The thing about the naussica manga is that its impossible to find, Iv'e only been able to find 1 volume of the "Perfect Collection" in the comic shops in my state & even Amazon comes up bare alot of the time. Viz Really neeRAB to reprint it.
