Toonzone Talkback - "Clannad" and More To Be Dubbed by Seraphim Digital

Hilary Haag is about as squeaky as you can get. I don't know who else would be fitting for a hyper and squeaky character other than maybe Carrie Savage.

Seriously, she WRECKED Rosette in Chrono Crusade because of being hyper and squeaky (and shrill and incomprehensible besides).

Perfect for Fuko.

This.

Anyway, I honestly think that both Greg Ayres and Luci Christian could do well in the roles. Naturally, since he's one of my favorite voice actors, David Matranga will blow everyone else away, though. :O

What, Guilmon?!

*Thinks about it* Oh god.

Besides, MegasXLR is pretty much his best teenager role. And uh..., well honestly that doesn't fit Suno's image.

Yeah Blum is a stretch for Sunohara. He'd be alright though. Todd Haberkorn probably would have been my preference for a Texas dub but actually I could see Chris Patton clean up in that role.

Sunohara's voice isn't "that high". He should basically sound like a normal teenager so Patton would have been a good choice.

Spike Spencer would have been amusing. I imagine something like his Ginta voice. But he doesn't work in Texas anymore outside of doing EVA dubs.

I liked Fuko's Japanese voice well enough Tae and for I know plenty of amateur actresses that would be great in the role. One in particular.

One thing to keep in mind: Seraphim Digital is one of the companies that appeared following the collapse of ADV last year. Hence, it's natural that most of the people casted in Clannad are people who have had experience in ADV dubs (although, I wouldn't count out some "non-ADV regular" Funimation VA's doing dub work for Seraphim Digital as well). So, it's no surprise that a nuraber of ADV voice actors are working on this title.

As for Fuko's English voice actor: given how Hilary Haag is known to appear in anime titles that have their dubs directed by Steven Foster, the person doing the Clannad dub, people kinda expected her to take part in this anime. Heck, when the board had the Pani Poni Dash cast guessing game in 2006, I knew that Haag was going to be cast as Becky, given how:

1. She'd fit the role of a sarcastic grade-school aged teacher perfectly;

2. Steven Foster was the one in charge of that dub.

Here's the currently revealed cast for those who don't want to search around:

Tomoya Okazaki - David Matranga
Nagisa Furukawa - Luci Christian
Ryou Fujibayashi - Brittney Karbowski
Kotomi Ichinose - Emily Neves
Fuko Ibuki - Hilary Haag
Youhei Sunohara - Greg Ayres
Mei Sunohara - Serena Varghese
Akio Furukawa - Andrew Love
Sanae Furukawa - Kara Greenberg
Voice of "I" - Shannon Emerick
Yukine Miyazawa - Maggie Flecknoe
Naoyuki Okazaki - Chris Hutchison

A lot of ADV vets corabined with some newer voices, a decent corabination I think.

As for Karbowski, a lot of people have forgotten she was originally discovered by Matt Greenfield himself, and worked for ADV for years before she ever debuted for FUNimation (Shuffle! about a year and a half ago).

I'll pick up the new LegenRAB of the Dark Kings set when it comes out. (Good thing I didn't get the original. )

Hopefully Gintama does well enough to get a similar treatment. I'd love to see a good English dub of it.

I actually mostly know her as Himeko in Pani Poni Dash, and it should be her most famous role, next to Ayu in Kanon...abd I own both releases...and fellow voice actresses Melissa Davis and Maggie Flecknoe are in both anime voicing main characters.

Speaking of Pani Poni Dash, another notable is Kara Greenberg (Media), so yeah, it's obvious I'm nerding out.

Also worth mentioning is that the role that Matt Greenfield saw her as when Karbowski was discovered was most likely that of Janet Weiss in a production of The Rocky Horror Show that starred ADV/Funi regulars Greg Ayres, Chris Patton, and Monica Rial.
