Toon Zone Talkback - "The Smurfs" Trailer Online

I hate it.

With a vengeance.

This is them "updating" the Smurfs in some inane attempt to make them hip, or current, or whatever the heck they think they're accomplishing. They'll be fish out of water having oh-so-wacky misadventures in New York City (IN 3D!!!), and we're supposed to applaud and buy a movie ticket for that. Well.....no. Lord, I'm not even a Smurfs fan these days either. I feel bad for people that are genuinely nostalgic about the cartoon. This strikes me as a simple cash-in, not any sort of revival.

*SIGH*

And Sony is such a large corporation too. Couldn't it just hire people who could bring original ideas to hollywood instead of creating live action films of cartoons?

I mean, it has the money to do so, why not do it?

They're even ripping off the "Munk Yourself!" tagline from the second Alvin & The Chipmunks movie. At least the Smurfs weren't wearing hoodies and sunglasses...yet.

I am by no means a Smurf fan, but this looks terrible. For one thing they live in a mythical kingdom, not New York. Maybe what's-his-face threw them in a magical time warp or something.

Congratulations. I think you not only just hit the nail on the head, but you just summed up the entire plot of the movie. ;)

Which actually says a lot about the writers of this flick. Although perhaps maybe there's a good story in the background (despite this being set in modern times), although I'm not going to hold my breath.

"Cash in" is right.

Augh...

Well Yahoo! won't let me watch the trailer but just the description makes me sick. The CGI model aren't too bad from what little I saw though so visually speaking its okay.

Gargamel invades their village? Really? Augh! Its not that easy! The Smurf's village is protected by a magic spell that makes it impossible for humans to reach it unless led by a Smurf! Otherwise Gargamel would be there every two days and the Smurf would live in a fortress.

I heard rumbles of Harris playing Johan... I bet its not THE Johan but some random New-Yorker (with a romantic B-plot to boot augh).

Seriously if you want to take a pre-existing franchise to launch a new series of tentpole movies and merchandising deals that's just fine. But have the basic understanding of what made the franchise popular in the first place for god sake! Not just slap them on the same frame as all those talking animal comedies.

You know they would never treat an AMERICAN comic book like that! (At least not anymore). But since its foreign you know it has to be made more 'hip' and 'cool' to the American crowd ripping it to shreds(which is stupid since right now International B.O. are way more important)!

Are they really going to be in NYC ? I figured this was just a teaser.

Either way, at this point I'm ready to destroy any known copy of Tone Loc's Wild Thing.

...

Do the marketing people not realize that "Get Smurf'd" and "Smurf Happens" are not-so-subtle bowdlerizations of vulgar expressions? Never mind offending family-film audiences: do they really want to viewers to subconsciously associate "smurf" with a different, four-letter word that starts with "s," or with the very vulgar equivalent of yet another "s" word (screwed)?

Oh, wait, they made that trailer. Even without those "catchphrases," audiences can easily figure out they'll be screwed if they see that [smurf].

Hey, I've got an idea: Let's launch a Facebook campaign to keep June Foray out the movie. The lady has too much dignity ...

That trailer just makes me want to smurfs some smufs right in their smurfs. And then sumrf the smurf out of their smurfs for good measure.

Yeah. I said it. Lord, this is crap. I mean smurf. No, no...I mean crap.

The thumbnail picture was all I needed; I don't want to watch the whole thing.

...Dangit, this is playing before Toy Story 3, isn't it? I may have no choice.

So that's what happened to the Smurfs after all that time traveling from the final season. They ended up in our time. :rolleyes:Pretty much. Instead of getting 'munked', we get 'smurfed'. Mother smurfer! Why did I not see that coming? :p
That's true, but since they'll be in New York, they'll probably pick up on modern slang soon enough. :shame:

Don't worry, Al. At least Hollywood isn't making 'Phyco Dad' into a movie, oh wait.. (Reads Variety Magazine) 'Michael Bay In Talks For A 'Phyco Dad' Movie'?!? Hey, Al, mind if I join you? After all, the more, the merrier. :p

UGH. This looks awful. I don't know why they're making such an obvious Alvin and the Chipmunks rip-off. The Smurfs are not chipmunks. They are little blue men. No one wants a stuffed Smurf for Christmas. Anyway, this movie may have some decency in it with the presence of Neil Patrick Harris but otherwise will be awful.
