Toon Zone Talkback - FUNimation Acquires "Linebarrels of Iron" and "Strike Witches"

I think you're mistaking backlog for tradition. Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, and even Dr. Slump were all accompanied with fanservice-y shows and yaoi the year they came out. Looking back the last 5 years, there was a lot of good quality stuff that came out, and tons and tons of forgettable junk among them.

Or he could just be a regular Dalek and shout "EXTERMINATE!" while waving a plunger up and down.

But anyways, I'll just agree with everyone else that Strike Witches just... doesn't look right. Still, it can't be that controversial.

True I mean i like alot of more modern anime, like Trinity blood, Eureka seven, Witch Hunter robin,Disgaea, Claymore, Bleach, Naruto, etc. and i realise that not all older aniemes out gold & their were some bad ones release around the time as classics. and that even the older ones ive mentioned had some cheesy stuff, amnd gratuituous fanservice but still i just wish older series were easier to find.

Truthfully, I think the anime stuck it's gags and jokes, and the manga even manages to punch in with a dose of depth before it wraps up.... but it's so loli.

And to those who doubt why Strike Witches stirs trouble, look up the screen caps from the DVD release on google.

I'd link them, but they violate the terms of service for the forum. (Yes, it's that bad.) It's definitely many steps past the previous lines in the sand as drawn in the US by Tsukuyomi MoonPhase and Petite Cossette (both of which I own, so please don't take my indictment as some how bigotted - I'm talking in terms of the raw amount and the context of the content.)

It seems to me that they should issue the TV version for DVD. As niche as it is it would be more likely to get original customers that way, and while it may be an extremely cheap acquisition that doesn't mean it should be allowed to sell like a C-list Media Blasters title if they can help it.

The loli otaku will complain, of course, but that's the bare minority of the market. Meanwhile, well, selling the TV edit would be an interesting test for the group of fans that claim to enjoy it for its substantive merits as a show. If that's true, they should be able to accept the release of the TV version.

I actually agree with this but I have to add that the plot actually does get much better later on.

However, that's like....much later on and most people didn't have the patience for that.

I also just looked at the uncensored DVD pictures.

So, sorry if this has been answered before, but wouldn't it be illegal for FUNimation to distribute the DVD version?

not interested in mecha series.
but I do wanna see the hype on Strike Witches ^_^ I hope it has Eng Dub, and has two particular VAs in it. I know which VA would be perfect for the lead Witch.

If FUNi didn't get SW... it would have been ADV. So don't deny that xD lol
I just find the concept interesting. Engine-Legs, Guns, and Animal ears.

EDIT
0_o hmm, seems there was a tiff about SW's content. Well FUNi released Kiddy Grade, Elfen Lied, and Nanoha...and no one blew up about that. And though Gonzo should be the last studio to adapt anything into an anime (with their massive changes to things). Strike Witches is one of the series I would like to see.

Wonder if the Novels will head over to the States.

Actually, ADV did Elfen Lied and Geneon did Nanoha which was later rescued by FUNi but yes they did do Kiddy Grade. Though, Kiddy Grade was nowhere near this.

See? That is what worries me.
I don't think it's illegal.. yet? It might be sometime soon though if we follow the rest of the west and even now as Karl said, it's in a gray area

Frankly, I'm not touching this in any case, but I don't approve of the apparent inconsistency at work. It's hard to say if they're being careful or are trying to sell DVD's by withholding uncut material (both?), but either way it doesn't reflect very well on FUNimation or the show itself. It's a pretty sad state of affairs when you can't or won't openly show people what you are selling and hoping they will buy. It's just confirmation to me that this was a bad acquisition to make.

As for comparisons, I would no more compare this to Nanoha than I would compare Bleach to Fist of the North Star. Yeah, technically speaking they share a genre I guess (moe for Nanoha/SW and shonen for these two, respectively). But in practical terms this really doesn't say very much, if anything.

So I guess I the only guy, or rather the only person on TZ who likes yaoi/yuri and shounen-ai/shoujo-ai, (sigh) I guess I'm a lone wolf, or in my case a lone kitsune (yes, I'm a furry demon)
