This is the talkback thread for "Dragonball Z" Season Nine & Movies 12-13: Boo Majin But No Big Boo Boos.

Please forgive me for this being so late...by seven months, no less...

Yes. The steelbooks were DVNRd from 35mm masters, as opposed to the 16mm masters of the TV show. Which means a considerably less amount of fine detail is lost, if any at all. Also, the movies were created for a 16:9 aspect ratio, so the crop is appropriate.

Most of the remastered movies look great. They have vibrant colors and crisp visuals. But it's not consistently great. Some are better than others. Movie 8 is very washed out and bright, for example. Although, to my understanding, that one was done first.

Here's a comparison for movie 11. Dragon Box (left) and Remastered (right). Note that FUNi's release contains more footage on the top, bottom, and sides.

Movie 12, but whatever. That actually looks really good. There does seem to be some very slight detail-loss, (not really noticable other than the slightly blurry outlines) but the colors are reasonably faithful to the original, and certainly don't make my eyes bleed like the earlier season-sets did. Certainly one heck of a lot better than the comparison I saw with the old release of that movie before, where Gogeta's vest had turned brown on the US release...

I see what you mean. That's the original FUNi release on the left.

For anybody interested in more comparisons. sumpter360 over at Daizenshuu EX posted these:

Movie 8 really does look awful. Worse than the season sets, actually.
