Toon Zone Talkback - Arnold Schwarzenegger Developing "Governator" with Stan Lee

I MIGHT be making a greater assumption then I should, but having Stan Lee attached to the project makes me think its a Marvel project. It is true though that he has done animation projects in the past not attached to Marvel.

That being said, considering Disney owns Marvel, that means thats likely to be its first stop. If Disney is serious about building an action block based around Marvel projects, they'd really need to take it instead of passing it to the general market.

Then again, now that I think about it, this might be a perfect series to help revitalize the dead ABC Saturday Morning block.

Lee is no longer directly associated with Marvel from a creative standpoint.

Speaking of recent Stan Lee projects, I think I can safely say he's had both hits (Heroman) and misses (Stripperela). This looks like the latter.

This is going to be so bad it's good, so bad it's horrible, or so okay it's average.

I don't know where it's going to go yet. At least the animation doesn't look half-bad.

After seeing Arnold punch that one robot or whatever into the "Got Milk?" truck, it just made me think of how much of a missed opportunity it is not having a lot of cheesy Arnold lines in this trailer.

I also found it hard to believe this was real.
It looks kind of cool.
The kids and the transformations look pointless.
It looks like they are running things, but don't tell them they have the power.

I wonder how big of an intellectual property nightmare this is.
And it's not just the "Got Milk" and music.
Shows have been legitimately doing jokes and parodies of him for decades, and those bits may be copyrighted. Now that he's making a show using all those bits, done by others, but based on him, for his show...

That's how I felt after watching the trailer. The beginning of the trailer with the speech looked and felt like it was done well, but the action in the rest of the trailer was when the concept began to feel even weirder for me. I don't think the music helped either. It felt more like generic dance club kind of music, not something I would associate with a fight scene against giant robots.

While I've never watched that many of Schwarzenegger's films and I don't know what Stan Lee does now a days, this trailer looked pretty well done. It has some nice animation going for it. Though, it really does look like an 80s action series with updated animation. I'm not sure if I would watch it since the trailer just made concept for the show more awkward than awesome to me for some reason. Still, I could see how it could be a fun action show and there is a chance that it might work out like that. I think it just depends on how they handle the concept and the characters.

I have to kick down what I am feeling when the music starts.

I love BEPs and I love the video for this song. Its hard for me to get the video of will.i.am doing ninjustu out of my head whenever I hear that song. I didn't help hearing apl.de.ap's solo as the video ended where he does his "God walk" in the video.

It was also extremely weird because the whole fight seen felt like it was coregraphed to "Rock That Body"

Jackie Chan was actually one of the best shows ever.

You probably didn't intend to make that point, but its actually a very good point to consider.

However, I am inclined to point out that Jackie Chan is a Jeff Kline series and he just hasn't had a miss yet IMHO.

Not that I was a fan of the series, but I am inclined to suggest that Godzilla's problems were more of a FoxKids obsession over Digimon problems.

The series itself wasn't THAT bad. It was no The Avengers: United They Stand. thats for sure.

Am I the only one who thought the action in that trailer was... really lame?

Like, I figured this was suppose to be a joke. Not an April Fools joke, but more of a "Haha Arnold, you're so silly!" joke. Where it's obvious he's making parodies of his life, trying to make an overly manly/badass action show with villians that are exaggerated (ROBOTS STEALING MONEY, YEEEAH) with a joke of a name to remind you this is all a light-hearted joke (G.I.R.L.I.E. Men).

So because of that, I figured the action would be A LOT more.... Cooler?

You know, something exaggeratedly cool, like this:

EDIT: Now that I re-watch it a couple of times, I definitely think the music damages any cool action that was in the trailer. If I have it on mute and play a more fitting song in the background, it's a bit better, but it still feels kind of slow for action. Like, three things total happened:

He rode in on his motorcycle.
He jumped behind them.
He punched a couple of robots then finished off the last with a projectile.

Maybe a clip show of various action scenes in the series would have made it better? Not sure. I just sort of expected something more over-the-top, you know?

Good, so it's not just me.

Really, Stan, just ask yourself "Why did Heroman work when Stripperela didn't?" and you'll figure out what the issue is here.

A site just confirmed that the show will be broadcasted on Cartoon Network...

...in Latinamerica.

Yeah, it took that fast for the show to find a channel...in a different region.

It was an animated spin-off based on the 1998 GINO movie. I'd call it a miss.

Besides the point, this just looks like a bad self-parody series. It was sort of annoying this got a huge cover story from EW of all things.
