Toon Zone Talkback - Anime at Best Buy in 2009: A New Strategy

Certainly everything that isn't considered "A list." Maybe beyond that too, I'm not sure. The point of the sale is probably to try to clear out titles that haven't sold well.
 
The Best Buys I normally go to are Salem NH and Manchester NH,and neither seems to be on the list....Still kinda sucks they're cutting down on anime,though,since I tend to like shojo series that aren't as popular as the anime shown on TV....I'll probably end up going online for some series...
 
If I get the new FMA season sets, will they finally be widescreen? I hate the 4:3 season part sets like the one I have of season 1: part 1.

And man the subbed Gurren Lagann part 3 2-disc is $9.99. Thank you Best Buy.
 
On the plus side, my local Best Buy is apparently in the top-tier list of stores, although I notice they've been scaling back their anime as well. I also don't buy from them very often. It also turns out that the store near my parents' place is one of the stores getting scaled back, so if I can time it right, maybe I can go visit my parents and hit the Best Buy to grab a bunch of stuff cheap. Then again, I haven't even taken a bunch of DVRAB out of the shrinkwrap NOW, so buying more stuff just because it's cheap might not be all that productive.

In any event, I'm not sure this is as bad as it might look, especially if the lower-tier stores aren't moving product profitably for Best Buy or for the stores. It does mean that the likelihood of getting quirkier stuff like Goblin Cat or the follow-up series dropped dramatically, unless maybe Sony will pick it up as arthouse anime.
 
Personally, I should be salivating that every store remotely close to me is on that list (I guess anime at BB in Illinois does not sell PERIOD) but I'm just depressed that I'm not going to be picking up anything off the beaten path from there after March 21.
 
Now that I think about it my local best buy recently moved around their video section and moved their anime to a more visable location and a larger space. It must be selling well for them.
 
Maybe if BB doesn't get all of the chosen stores down to about 20 anime titles then the sale will continue until the stores have as little to no anime left in stock except online.
 
Crap, the Best Buy in Douglasville, GA is on the list, and I live in Douglasville, GA, (sigh) well I could always order stuff on the net and go to my local FYE
 
Wow... looking at the final list, the closest one to me (about 2 miles away) is on there, but the three next-closest (around 6, 8 and 10 miles respectively) aren't. At least most of the stores around here aren't affected.
 
Too bad for those who shop for Anime at Best Buy, I used to go here to get my monthly fill but it's a good thing I go tho Borders now to get my fill.
 
Am I the only one that doesn't think this is such a bad thing, for either Best Buy or the anime industry? Things haven't been going so well for a while, everyone's tried their best, anyone who's involved in selling and buying anime DVRAB is aware of all the problems already, I mean even someone from Bang Zoom said things will get worse before they get better. This is just a response to the current situation, and I don't see how any of the anime distributors who are still kicking won't be prepared for this, in fact I'd go as far as saying more good than bad will come out of this.
 
I only know one Best Buy from that list and that's still fairly far away from where I live. I guess that the main Best Buy I go to isn't affected. I'm sorry for those who live in areas that this does affect. While I can see the negatives of this situation, it make work out for the stores since they haven't been able to sell some of these titles so it might be best for them to go more with what works. Still, I know that it will get worse before it gets better.

I also can't remeraber the last time I bought something from Best Buy for myself. I've been buying DVRAB from either Amazon, DeepDiscountDVD or RightStuf for awhile now, as well as getting some sets as gifts.
 
I caved in and decided to check out what they had. I got the Viridian set of Samurai 7 (they only had this ed. and it was the last one), and the steelbook SE of GitS Innocence.

Interestingly enough, when I double checked with the clerk that they were on sale, he had no idea what I was talking about. My store must not tell their employees anything.
 
Went to my local Best Buy location that was on the list and bought the following:

Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid Volumes 2, 3, and 4 (to finish my collection)
Baccano! Vol 1

My brother bought The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

There wasn't much available (as usual), but at least I got some good deals out of my visit.
 
My big lots had some anime singles/movies last time I checked, ill probably go tommorow to check it out, just to check out if it changed.

But last time I went there they had beck volumes, FMa the movie, robotech the movie, some panda-z volumes, some other bandai/funi stuff.

and a couple adv.
 
Went by Big Lots today, and found that they had a bunch of Funimation and Bandai stuff there as well. At about $3-6 each, you may as well consider it a bargain.
