Toon Zone Talkback - Anime at Best Buy in 2009: A New Strategy

And of course Hastings does special orders, too, so anything they don't have, they can get for you.

While I KNOW you're not advocating anything illegal (which would, of course, be against the forum rules and hence would net you a warning), this would be a pretty weak reason for anyone to turn to piracy. Even if anime becomes tough to find in brick-and-mortar stores in your area, there's Amazon, DeepDiscount, Rightstuf, not to mention Netflix, Hulu, the new Crunchyroll, and plenty of other cheap or free ways to get your fix legally.

I didn't buy it, since my sister already has it, but the store I went to had a couple Gurren Lagann sub/dub singles, plus set 1 in both Regular and Limited editions. Keep in mind that this was a smaller store, with a minuscule anime section, so chances of finding it in other stores seem good. I really wish Best Buy still stocked GL sets 2 and 3, as well as Code Geass Set 3, I could have used those.

I made a return trip today. Turns out yesterday was a "series I'm already collecting" day, and today was a "new series that I've never seen before" day:

Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl
Coyote Ragtime Show

First time I've ever blind bought anything on DVD

Phew, thanks!

The San Juan one (the one that I usually go to) isn't affected? Huh.

Oh well, better be prepared, in case there's something good, I kinda want a box set.

only one of the 4 BBs I frequent is affected (and even then, it's the one that jsut opened a few months ago, and has terrible service, and is the furthest) But I can still check it out soon and get that Gurren Lagann box I've been holding out on ^__^

I'm just the kind of person who prefers holding something in his hanRAB before he purchases it.

I'm worried that this is going to have a lot of consequences for the industry. With anime virtually nonexistent on TV these days and BB cutting back how is anime going to get noticed, much less expand its audience?

Within five years we might all be down to subs on Crunchyroll.

Durab idea but do you guys like to post up the pics of what you bought from this 50% off sale? With so many titles, I'm not sure which ones to buy other than GL of course.

I'll tell you what to buy, so you don't have to make any descisions yourself: (Boxsets): Peach Girl, Rurabling Hearts, Kamichu!, Noir, Fate/Stay Night, Ergo Proxy, Cowboy Bebop Remix, Shakugan no Shana, Noein, School Rurable, Slayers, Haruhi Suzumiya, Yu Yu Hakusho, Kodocha, and Ghibli or Shinkai Movies.

I went yesterday, and picked up the Samurai 7 complete (non-Viridian) set for $20, the FB set for $25, and The Girl who Leapt Through Time special edition for $18. If I go for any more before the sale enRAB or everything gets sold, I'm considering between the FMA S1 set, the Gurren Lagann part 1 w/ or wo/ artbox, YuYu sets 2 & 3, and the Evangelion set w/ or wo/ tin. Any recomendations?

Hmm. Arlington, VA is not on the list. Good. I do wonder if it's middle tier, considering that I have noticed that some series that were there are currently not. For instance at one point they had Toward the Terra, and now they don't. On the other hand, they did stock Baccano and some other stuff.

fffffffffffffffffffffudge.

BOTH the Braintree (where I always shop) and Brockton stores? The ones in Boston too? I'd have to go all the way to Carabridge (I get there maybe 3 times a year)? *looks at her Best Buy card* I guess this is pretty much useless now.

FYE is going to have a monopoly over anime (in store).

As I figured, it's only the inenr city locations aroudn here. Colurabia Heights, Tenlytown and downtown Baltimore. Time to do some driving I suppose.

Lot of Texas stores on that list but not the one closest to me, although I've developed a love hate relationship with that store over the last couple of months

Without trying to derail this thread, I know that noone's going to agree with this given current events but I think this is a really stupid move and it's definitely going to alienate the people who did buy the special editions. And this took nearly a year to complete (As do most twenty six episode series) I'm sorry but I feel they had plenty of time and five volumes to decide whether or not to continue the LE's instead of pulling the plug right at the end
