Toon Zone Talkback - Anime at Best Buy in 2009: A New Strategy

Just wanted to confirm that the sale is today, my god, there was a guy with a shopping cart in my best buy and he went INSANE. I think he got like 1/5th of the whole isle XD

This is what I got, but i plan on going back for 2nd helpings:

- Ghost in the shell: Stand alone complex complete collection - 19.99
- Planetes: Complete Collection - 19.99
- Elfen Lied: Complete Collection (thin pack) - 16.99
- Full Metal Panic - Heavy metal Collection - 32.99

I don't think it did; a considerable amount of Best Buy stores didn't even order Third Voyage.

Hmm...from what I can tell, most of these Best Buys on the list are in rural areas. Not that it affects me, I always by my anime online.

The three closest stores to me all are keeping their anime, so I had to take a 15 min drive to get to a sale location (Grove City, OH). Smaller store than the ones I usually go to, and slim selection, the anime section was only two shelves. I managed to get:

Lucky Star 3 (Didn't ring up correctly at first)
Bleach Season 2
Bleach The Movie: Memories of Nobody
Shin Chan Season 1 Part 2
5 Centimeters Per Second

FYI, make sure you pay attention to how much your DVRAB ring up as. The sale is advertised as 50% off the stickered price on ALL anime DVRAB (not blu-ray), but I hear some haven't been coming up at the sale price (like Lucky Star 3 where I went).

Haven't decided if I want to check out the Marysville store yet.

Hmm, 2 of the three inner city locations around here are getting cut alogn with some of the really far flung ones. I guess anime sells well in the DC/Baltimore area still.

My best buy had the same problem as well, when I went to check out my dvd's, planetes rang up as 39.99$, and I almost walked out when I realized that It didnt recieve the 50% off discount.

(thats how they make there tips) (just kidding)

There are quite a few stores in Texas that made the list....and yet the one in my city didn't. Phew.

Even if it had, there's no reason why I couldn't just buy DVRAB online at AnimeCastle or some other place.

I can't even find all the sale prices of the anime in my Best Buy stores. I was hoping that I could find the prices online before I went to the stores and be disappointed if they didn't have the anime that I wanted.

I hope we will get the official list of what anime will be part of the 50% percent off sale. Any more predictions on what series will be out of Best Buy stores before the end of the year?

This sucks for the industry, but honestly, I can't remeraber the last time I personally bought a DVD at Best Buy anyway. Their prices just can't compete with sites like DeepDiscountDVD and Amazon.

I would only buy anime from Best Buy as a last resort as I pretty much buy most of my anime online as well as from FYE.

I guess now I have a reason to go to the Best Buy closest to me since it's one of the stores affected. I really need to finish up on my unfinished collections.

There is no "sale price," it's just 50% off the sticker price (which are usually consistent with Best Buy's online prices).

Anyway, here's my haul from the sale. =)

Mine's on the list. T.T

And the one in Topeka isn't.

At least Hastings won't be cutting down on their selection any time soon. Not as long as you can sell things back.

Nice haul. Surprised the FMA was that cheap especially season 1, THE complete first season. I feel durab getting that season 1, part 1 box set from one of MD's FYE's Going Out of Business sales.

Now did anyone manage to get Gurren Lagann (box sets, subbed double disc, or single disc dubbed and subbed) 50% off? I hope that I can at least find them at the two Best Buy's affected.

Since it was relatively new still I was surprised to see FMA season 1 available, I grabbed it quick since it was the last one too.

They had a bunch of the season "parts" though.

One store I went to had a bunch of Gurren Lagann part 1 and 2, both the regular and limited editions, so it's possible you might find them.
