Advertisers are very aware of the Sky+ generation who are skipping their wares. I've heard talk of more product placement instead of adverts, but if that happened I suspect it would be as well as 25 mins of ads in an hours telly.
Many years ago Sigue Sigue Sputnik released an album that had adverts inbetween songs. Tony James said it would pave the way for all albums to be free, as the advertising would pay for the production, of course that one wasn't free, as it was just a trial.
The product placement in Bond movies is very jarring, and I could see it being much worse in an ITV drama. "Yes Sir, I can use this latest iPad to cross-reference the murder location with known offenders. There are a whole range of crime solving apps now available from Apple, and very reasonably priced too." "Ok, lets get back to HQ in the Ford Kuga 1.6 DCi, we can do it in 20 minutes with minimal fuel costs and low carbon emissions"
