TomTom Mobile 5 GPS receiver package for Nokia 6620

GPS Passion is in the process of posting their roundup of 20 BT receivers

Only the first 2 pages are up, but the rest should be up by the end of the week maybe.

The Globalsat 338 is a solid, proven unit with great battery life and performance. For me, however, the choice is the Holux GPSlim 236 because its smaller/lighter, supports EGNOS/WAAS, and can be used with a computer/laptop via usb or serial. The size/weight is fairly important to me, as I like to carry the receiver in my pocket at virtually all times -- especially since the times when I tend to use the navigation the most are when I'm riding with my friends, not driving, and we decide to go somewhere that no one has been to. I think the Holux maybe slightly cheaper too. If you are going to keep the receiver in the car most of the time, I think the best choice might be the Globalsat due to its substantial battery life and auto-off feature [15-17 hours for the globalsat vs. 10 hours for the Holux].

Currently I'm using the receiver that came with TomTom Navigator 2004 [previous version], but I plan to purchase the Holux this month.

Are you using the original TomTom MMC or a 3rd party one? I moved all my stuff to a larger card to make room for more maps... maybe it's that?

FYI, the Nokia BL-6C batteries work fine in the Holux. Gives you 1070mah vs. 870mah of the original battery which is a BL-5C, so 2 more hours :-)

Cool so I guess I will be happy with the BT-338 also the BT-338 with the new firmware says it supports WAAS/EGNOS also I want to know how much space does tomtom 5 with let say the NYC map would take up on the 6620?

Did you format the new MMC? If not, put it in the phone and format it. It will take some time. When it is finished, put it back in the card reader and try again.

sorry for being vauge, the guy is selling the tomtom mobile 5 for s60 uk version with the ppc usa and canada maps, just like milanorex stated, i have version 4.4 right now and it works perfectly but no canada and usa maps for my version,...... when you put the mmc in the card reader you put the tomtom file and everything else in that first folder that comes up with (mp3, images, videos etc.) you put the maps in there too, the ttmobile file goes into your system/apps folder...... it should work from there

guess I have to get a new MMC for my phone thanks for the info also what I would like to know is if when you use tomtom 5 on the 6620 do you see your car moving in realtime on the screen?

I've got the TT unit that came with Navigator 5, but after reading about some of the improvements in the other units, went for the Holux SlimGPS 236. I can track 11 Satellites in downtown Toronto! I can also get signals inside some buildings like the St. Lawrence Market, or inside the Toronto Union Station train station.

In the car is excellent as well - the biggest bonus for the Holux unit is if you have a ton of old Nokia phones lying around, you can cannibalize their batteries for the Holux - it uses the BL-5C!

I took this video capture of a demo route in 3d mode to show you what it looks like. Pocket Controller would only capture at max 4 fps for some reason, so its not actually as choppy as this on the device.

you need xvid to play the video

I looked into the Go 700 before deciding on the s60 Mobile version with the USA maps. The Go offers some interensing features, like acting as a bluetooth speaker phone (700 model). The 700 also has seemless coast to coas street level maps. The Mobile and Navigator can only load regional, state, or a major highways map for the US. So, you would not be able to do a detailed navigation from coast to coast on the Mobile or Nav, but you could on the Go. I think this is simply a storage issue as the Go (700) and a built-in HDD.

I finally figured out how to fix the No maps found problem... All's well here in schweet gps land.

Just wish the thing had a bigger screen. LOL I guess nothing's perfect..

that looks pretty cool! and Im also guessing it tells you when to turn with a voice as well? thanks for that sample that was really cool of you to do that thanks Im guessing my modded headset with a jack on it would come in handy because I will hook it up to my car speakers and have it tell me when to turn left or right through the speakers

I finally got everything setup for the TomTom Mobile 5 & Holux 236 on the 6620 Thanks for everyone's help.

By the way, do you guys notice that the Canada map is pretty outdated eventhough TomTom Navigator 5 Map for Canada and US came out not long ago.........

I was looking up an address in Mississauga, at the end, found it by postal code and it is called "Whitefish Bay", is this the old name of Sauga ?

And they list many streets as "unknown street". Anyway, if you are not reading the text direction, the voice prompt should be ok to direct you.

I have the same issues in Mississauga. What I've discovered is that you can find all the addresses you need in the "Saug" by using the old township names.

i.e if your looking for an address near Hwy 10 and Lakeshore the city you would plug into Tom Tom would be Port Credit instead of Mississauga

Don't know if this works for all the townships, but its a for sure in Port Credit

Cheers
