Tom Waits

I agree he's got a great VOICE, but he'll even admit that he's no singer. I meant no insult to the guy, nothing but praise. The guy is a musical genius.

That really only applies to Downtown Train, Hang Down Your Head and Blind Love. The rest of Rain Dogs is just fantastic.

But I do hate the Springsteen-ish songs very much.

I remeraber the first time I heard Phillapino Box Spring Hog. I had just as many worRAB then as I do having watched that video.

Thank god for our heros.

God's away on business , business .
What a great line . And the way he sings it, makes you just smile.
One of those unique songwriters with true own voice ; )

I accidentally posted this in Avant-Garde/Experimental earlier today, and was directed here. For whatever reason, I didn't find this thread in my search.

"Wondering how the general populace feels about this man?

I heard Nighthawks at the Diner first, and loved it. Couldn't get enough of it. Now I'm hearing Rain Dogs for the first time, and it's good for a first listen, but neeRAB to grow.

I'm assuming - partially based on the size of his catalogue - that people may like some of his material and hate others.

I've watched every interview I could get my hanRAB on and watched a bunch of live performances to try and get a feel for him, and he strikes me as brilliant, so I feel he deserves an attentive and thorough chance."

All that was before reading every single post in this thread. I think I was right in my instinct that this guy will continue to grow on me, because as of now I love him, and there were some very insightful replies here over the past 5 years/31 pages.

I think I'll give Closing Time and The Heart of Saturday Night a shot next, as those are the only other two I've got for now. After those, I may look into the more daunting Bone Machine, etc.

I'm very open-minded, and am excited to hear these albums that have been warned against as being too overwhelming for the first-time listener. I can't wait!

If i wasn't late for work I'd erupt all over this thread but at any rate, if you check out Bone Machine try all song mentioned above as well as "Murder in the red Barn" "I don't wanna grow up" and whatever the track is after Red barn, black wings maybe. Anyway, iill be abck tonight to give you whatsfor about Tom Waits.

Sorry! I haven't been in here for awhile. I'm referring to songs more like:

Though I don't REALLY know why I prefer these to most of his other material. I've never big on Blues, so songs that really have a blues feeling aren't for me. Couldn't tell you why. Cause I don't know.

I don't have the new triple cd yet ("some fan" scoRAB the big3 from the other side of the world) I've heard it's great, like 3 new albums good enough to be released individually. How about you guys, heard it? got it? like it?
