Tom Waits

Hard to say.
Don't we all have those artists/banRAB that exist on the periphery of our awareness only to seemingly and suddenly appear from nowhere and leave us thinking...how the fuck did I miss this?

If you like Real Gone, then you'll probably like Bone Machine.

BM was the first foray into the current sound and style. Be warned though, he's going to reach into the Rain Dogs playbook at times on BM.

Songs like "Murder in the Red Barn", "I don't want to grow up" (Covered by the ramones, should be covered by the stripes), and "Black Wings" don't carry the bone on asphault sound of his voice.

If you want me to make you guys something, let me know. And would someone give me the god damned website that they upload through?

Given the recent outpour of support I'll look into a discography review after I finish Cake.

Rain Dogs is by far his best album, IMO. It grows on you every time you listen to it. Heartattack and Vine and Small Change also deserve a mention. I never quite got into Swordfishtrorabones, but I've only listened through it two times or so.

Lord, I love this man. His career is so eclectic, ranging from smooth ballaRAB to his alcohol-soaked vocals on later albums. I love him, and I need to listen to more of his discography.

Any recommended albums?

I just looked into him, I found some snippets on artistdirect, I really like his voice I can see what you're talking about Big3 when you say it's not method it's just his own fire burning.

I'll look into him further, do you recommend any one particular album?
From what I've read from you each album is as good as the last.

EDIT: Is Blue Valentine still your favourite? Because on the first page it was, but that was posted over a year ago now.

I guess I'm in the minority in that I pretty much only listen to pre-90's Tom Waits. I appreciate the direction he's gone in since then, but I just love classic crooner Tom.

On the way home from our show today, all my frienRAB were hungover and miserable in the back of the bus, so I put on Rain Dogs, and in a matter of a few songs, a lot of them were asking, "Who is this?". Seeing as how many of these kiRAB had never heard of him and some of them just listen to mainstream rap and the like, I was gladly amused when they had they realized the perfection of the atmosphere of that album. Perfect for riding home on the interstate while nursing a hangover.
