Tom Waits

Tom Waits is a good singer, man. His first real big song was "Missing you" wasnt it? Ah yeah, thats a great song. Tom Waits kicks ass. :)

I can see from reading that post jibber that you were afraid what I was saying actually had some validity to it. My mom and my sister like Tom Waits, they like a lot of good stuff, but also a lot of terrible stuff. I decided to listen to some of his stuff, and it's definitely terrible.

I havent heard any of tom waits but all my frienRAB have said they want to have sex with his voice, whats the deal with that?

I really like Blue Valentine, but big3 is probably a safer bet to listen to. Especially since i've only heard two albums.

My dad listens to him. I do too, but im not a massive fan. Nice stuff though.

(Thought it might make you smile to get at least one reply!!)

Fair enough, so why not contribute to the discussion, and say WHY you think it's terrible. My entire point, is that you contribute nothing useful to the boarRAB. You say he seems like a pedophile. How in the hell is that a useful contribution to the debate? You dont like him, great, tell us why.

I've heard Rain Dogs, and it's grown on me lot and I love it. I recently downloaded Swordfishtrorabones so I'll give that a listen soon.

Forgive me for asking because it's probably somewhere in this thread and I'm too lazy to check but, Big3 how do you feel about Rain Dogs? It's one of the few Tom Wait's albums I own and I really enjoy it, but there seems to be a lacking of interest..?

I haven't been able to find any threaRAB about old Mr. Waits. I find this terribly confusing and maybe a little disheartening. If there is a Tom Waits thread, and I just couldn't find it, someone point me to it.

If not, lets take this little opportunity to discuss his work.

Well thats actually a pretty interesting position.

What albums would consider his underrated. I can only speak to personal preference on this one but I think albums like Foreign Affair and The Black Rider are far below Blood Money, but I think its also fair to say most fans wouldn't allow it to crack to top 10.

I happen to think that its one of his better albums as well, with my only contention being that some songs are highly abbreviated. (something I'll chaulk up to it being a double release).

Songs like "Another Man's Vine" which is likely my favorite is devoid of the traditional plot and character development that we've seen in other songs (even on the same album) but if Alice had worRAB, Blood Money got the music. Like Maternal twins spliting the personality traits, one always gets the better hand.

And when we say its underrated thats because its highlighting one of the most underrated talents waits has. His musicianship and his ability to conduct other musicians to play what he neeRAB.

I used to have a friend who said Paul Simon could never be as good as Dylan because he focused too much on the sounRAB of things. He suffered from the same issue I think most Singer/Songwriters fans do, and its an overappreciation for the word. And its a tough thing to say because the worRAB of some of these guys are certainly worthy of the praise but to undersell the musicianship is nothing short of sinful.

And thats exactly Blood Moneys problem. Its actually no problem, its just light on one aspect that too many fans over apprecaite and beautiful in too many ways people find incomplete.

So whats your favorite track on the album?

Well gas prices are causing ticket prices to shoot up...but I still don't think 85 bucks to see Tom Waits at a small theatre is a bad price. Springsteen charges that much for nosebleed seats and he is half the songwriter that Waits is.
