"TMNT" Talkback (Spoilers)

I am very proud and very happy and very excited about how this movie came out. It had some "uuh, wait, what?" problems, but it's still solid. And my opinion has already been expressed in all of the above posts. I'm agreeing with everyone.

The one thing I have a paritcular bias I mean knowledge of is Sarah Michelle Gellar, being a Buffy fanboy. Hearing her voice and realizing that woman was April was really fun, and quite frankly they handled a 21st Century April very well. And ya know, it's not just that "well she can't be the damsel in distress." She WAS, at one point many years ago, but she has grown since then (all of the main characters have in fact). Her performance was not a surprise, because if you know her and aren't shallow enough to hate her, then you know she's a phenomenal actress.

Although, even bigger than that in terms of VO news was hearing Mako. I miss him so bad, and it was indescribable hearing him as Splinter. And yes, Splinter just hasn't sounded or seemed right since "Secret of The Ooze," so many thanks and much love to Mako.

The plot was also a big surprise. I didn't want it, of course, when I first heard of it. Like someone said above, I hoped it wasn't going to be a "dude cool ninja turtles fight monsters aawesome!!" Ya know, creatures from another dimension, ninja turtles in New York, it wasn't that far away from a story you might hear from the old days about Dimension X. The plot holes and odd pacing just hurt it a bit is all.

Let's also make a strong bold note for the Don and Mike thing. They didn't get much screentime in the first movie, but it was forgivable because they were still seen and they still had some moments (Mike and Don's light-side to contrast with the rocky relationship between Leo and Raph; Don and Casey trying to fix the truck). However, we see the problem happen again in some ways with the CGI film. Let's keep that in mind for future projects, okay?

That's not how I saw him at all. I thought it felt clear 3,000 years can change a man, and did.

I heard the 13th monster fell into this world into a movie theater and saw that TMNT was premiering so it hung around to watch it a few times. That's why it was late to the party.

Plot Summary: After the defeat of their old arch nemesis, The Shredder, the Turtles have grown apart as a family. Struggling to keep them together, their rat sensei, Master Splinter, becomes worried when strange things begin to brew in New York City. Tech-industrialist Max Winters is amassing an army of ancient monsters to apparently take over the world. And only one super-ninja fighting team can stop them—those heroes in a half shell—Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael! With the help of old allies April O'Neil and Casey Jones, the Turtles are in for the fight of their lives as they once again must face the mysterious Foot Clan, who have put their own ninja skills behind Winters' endeavors. Making this new incarnation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles truly cutting-edge, the film will be created entirely with state-of-the-art CG animation, giving them a completely new look for the 21st century.

This was surprisingly alot better than I anticipated.

t's a really good movie. The CGI isn't total crap like the diarrhea Dreamworks dumps out every year, which gives me hope for Gatchaman next year.

Though my only gripe is that April O'Neil was a little too twig-thin for my liking. Otherwise, everyone looked great, especially Casey and Splinter (which, btw... rest in peace, Mako. ;_; You did a fantastic job for your last film). Karai was really pretty too, even though I don't know anything about the character from any of the canons. =D;;;

The story wasn't anything too remarkable, but for the most part it's fine. I'm a little dissapointed Donatello and Michaelangelo got shafted, but given that Mike is mostly the 'comic relief' character, I'm sorta glad they didn't go too over the top with his behavior.

Not sure why they chose 'Black Betty' as a song for one of the pseudo-fight scenes though. Weird.

Overall, I'd give it 3.5/5. I wouldn't mind seeing it again, but maybe on DVD preferably.

As many times as I have tried, I've never been a fan of TMNT.
Still, this movie looked fun, and was pretty cool. I like the character designs, and the action packed scnese were great, the animation was good as well.
B+

I've been planning to see this all week, but I just found out the "giant monster vs. Asian family" flick 'The Host' is in town this week, and I certainly can NOT miss that one. Hmmm...decisions decisions...

Just saw the movie. While it doesn't live up the potential, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a blast to watch. All the voices and everything were great (there wasn't a single VA I didn't like) and the action scenes were awesome. The plot was rather lackluster, though. It was heavy-handed in some places (the whole lesson on family) while lacking in others (Winters's change of heart). Still, it's a great return for the Turtles, and I'll definitely be seeing the sequel.

Loved the movie, although my only complaint is Donatello and Michaelangelo (besides being comedy relief) didn't have any spotlight. Would have been nice to focus on them a little more, since Leo/Raph were the focus of the movie. Still enjoyed it alot none the less. Although I might not have thought that way if Raph/Leo weren't my favorite Turtles.

i liked it, the monster angle wasn't as prevelant as i had thought (a positive)
looking forward to a sequel featuring Karai, the Foot, and the Shredder's resurrection (???)

leo v. raph was awesome

veteran va's jim cummngs and kevin michael richardson lent their talents

I like the front page image's tag line. Nice throw back to the first movie.

I'm going to see it this afternoon and I can't freak'n wait!

This might just be nostalgia talking, but I'm not sure any turtle film could beat the orignial movie. I'm also a bit skeptical of the whole monster thing, I think I'll wait on the Sketch test and see what he has to say. ;) This could be good lighthearted fare after I watch Amazing Grace this weekend.

I just got back and I loved it. The fight scenes were amazing and the humor was balanced very well with the drama. My only complaint was that Don wasn't featured enough as the rest of the turtles though. They did hint at a sequel in the end as well.

Screw the critics. This movie was pure, unbridled fun for new and old fans of the Turtles.

Flaws: The pacing could have been better. Not to mention the one-liners are as touch-and-go as they've always been with these dudes. April is nowhere near any sort of personality we've ever seen before, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. She can't always be the damsel in distress.

Die-hard fans got a lot of things in this movie: Raph being Batman, Casey being Casey, Leo vs Raph, Splinter charging into battle and kicking tail. ("I've still got it!") They mention the Shredder having been killed prior to the movie, but it really doesn't matter what continuity this is set in.

Voice acting is absolutely brilliant. Patrick Stewart's in it, and so is Mako (in the final performance of his life). The Turtles sound just like they should, and I'm frankly amazed they got a voice for Casey that sounds exactly the same. (Did they hire the animated series VAs?)

The animation is more stilted than a Dreamworks movie. I don't mean to diss the character animators, but the poses jumped between keyframes so often it was like everybody was hopped up on pills and it distracted from the dialogue. I often found myself watching every miniscule movement of the eye sockets and brows just to see how much work those guys put into animating the faces. The designs themselves are superb, especially Casey.

A major element to this movie is Raphael taking on a secret identity to continue protecting NYC while the rest of the Turtles are taking a break. Of all people to realize it's him under the costume, Leo should have been able to tell it was Raph through his fighting technique. (Then again, perhaps Raph anticipated one of the Turtles or Splinter figuring him out and developed a completely different technique to throw them off?) They seriously expect us to believe Casey Jones is the ONLY ONE who could figure it out on his own?

Bottom line: If you love the Turtles, you won't be disappointed. If you don't care about the Turtles, there isn't much else this movie can offer you. The plot is a tad complex (Would have been nice if they spent a little more time discussing the intricacies of the portal and the other dimension and a little less time on Mikey's sewer skating. Not that there was anything wrong with the action scenes!)

I'd like to go into more detail, but my carpal tunnel is acting up. A fun film for people who don't care that they're essentially watching a kids' movie. And by the way, it seems the little tykes in my theater enjoyed it just as much as I did. It's definitely not one of those "try to be mature to appeal to the adults" movies.

And thankfully, there are only two or three toilet jokes in the entire movie. What a relief!

TMNT - **1/2

(Just to clarify, the rating doesn't indicate how much I liked the movie. It measures quality only. * = Manos: The Hands of Fate, ***** = Citizen Kane)

It was a pretty good movie, but it needed more on Karai. I heard someone in the audience say, "Who the hell is Karai?" when they first said her name. Oh yeah, and I was saddened to see no dedication to Mako. This was his last freaking project, and they didn't do anything for him.

My eye wondered on the poster on my way out of Uni today, noticing Chris Even's role in this thing.

Many a "WTF" was uttered as a result.

Not realising it's not Even's the Radio guy.
