I am very proud and very happy and very excited about how this movie came out. It had some "uuh, wait, what?" problems, but it's still solid. And my opinion has already been expressed in all of the above posts. I'm agreeing with everyone.
The one thing I have a paritcular bias I mean knowledge of is Sarah Michelle Gellar, being a Buffy fanboy. Hearing her voice and realizing that woman was April was really fun, and quite frankly they handled a 21st Century April very well. And ya know, it's not just that "well she can't be the damsel in distress." She WAS, at one point many years ago, but she has grown since then (all of the main characters have in fact). Her performance was not a surprise, because if you know her and aren't shallow enough to hate her, then you know she's a phenomenal actress.
Although, even bigger than that in terms of VO news was hearing Mako. I miss him so bad, and it was indescribable hearing him as Splinter. And yes, Splinter just hasn't sounded or seemed right since "Secret of The Ooze," so many thanks and much love to Mako.
The plot was also a big surprise. I didn't want it, of course, when I first heard of it. Like someone said above, I hoped it wasn't going to be a "dude cool ninja turtles fight monsters aawesome!!" Ya know, creatures from another dimension, ninja turtles in New York, it wasn't that far away from a story you might hear from the old days about Dimension X. The plot holes and odd pacing just hurt it a bit is all.
Let's also make a strong bold note for the Don and Mike thing. They didn't get much screentime in the first movie, but it was forgivable because they were still seen and they still had some moments (Mike and Don's light-side to contrast with the rocky relationship between Leo and Raph; Don and Casey trying to fix the truck). However, we see the problem happen again in some ways with the CGI film. Let's keep that in mind for future projects, okay?
That's not how I saw him at all. I thought it felt clear 3,000 years can change a man, and did.
I heard the 13th monster fell into this world into a movie theater and saw that TMNT was premiering so it hung around to watch it a few times. That's why it was late to the party.
