Titanic

I love the film, it really does make me feel sorry for those who were on board the ship or knew someone on board the ship, I would like to see a purely factual film made about Titanic though.

My fave Titanic movie anecdote is James Cameron accepting an Oscar and yelling 'I'm the king of the world' and then getting up a few minutes later to accept another one and making everyone do a minutes silence for the victims!

Having said that I think it is unfairly maligned, it is no Citizen Kane but its a great action/romance and is stunning to look at. I remember thinking it was the best film I'd ever seen at the time and while I wouldn't stand by that now it is something I could watch every few years and really enjoy.

Brilliant film. I went back to see Titanic several times. As has already been said, the emotional impact of the film was something special. It's legacy speaks for itself, highest grossing film of all time and all that, even 12 years after it was released. And all those Oscars too.

While it was a work of art, it was of course flawed. Not least was the way it distorted certain facts in order to "improve" the story. But I've come to the conclusion that Hollywood directors just can't help themselves in this respect!

Personally I think its great. I first watched it about 3 or 4 years ago, I was only 7 when it had a theatrical release and because of my young age I really don't remember much of the hype surrounding it - perhaps this is why I can watch it without the negativity?

Though I agree the build up can be slow (at least on a repeat viewing ... I don't think its particularly noticeable when first watching it) the last 90 minutes are very compelling. I love the contrast between rich and poor and men and women in the film, the insight into the attitudes of the rich to the lower classes. I also agree that we perhaps do care more for Rose and Jack than we do about the others, and perhaps this leaRAB to some people forgetting that 1500 more people died - but I think it would be a huge achievement to make us care for all of them without the emotional attachment to a few. And the scenes of the elderly couple on the bed and the lady telling her children a story, knowing they are soon to die, are for me more heartbreaking than the death of Jack and extremely poignant.

As for the acting, I think Winslet is fantastic and the supporting cast are mostly very good. I'm never too sure about DiCaprio in it though. While I think he's a great actor, to me he just looks like a little boy which perhaps make it harder to suspend belief. But that's my only criticism.

my personal best film of all time, Fantasic story, Attention to detail for the boat.

i have the 5 disc dvd set with the different ending, prefer the one they kept in.

Everytime i see the film it makes me sad about the disaster.

On another note back in my pottery days, i helped to make the china for the film, all that work and they smashed it up

I love this film, unabashedly so. It's not the best film ever made in terms of writing but it's very well made, looks absolutely stunning, and is a true epic in every sense of the word. I tend to watch it once a year I adore it that much. :o

The bit that always get's me, is the part where the boat is sinking, the soundtrack is at full force, and you see the elderly couple lying on a bed holding each other, with the water gushing in

It makes me well up now just thinking of it!

I agree that it would be a huge achievement to make us care for all of them without the emotional attachment to a few but the few or the two from Titanic didn't actually exist.

It was a nice movie to watch but as Titanic movies go

A Night to Remember

was far better.

Can't call a 46,000 ton ocean liner a boat mun!!! The elderly couple were Mr and Mrs Straus and it was indeed a moving story of a couple so advanced in years yet so much still in love.

I like the film but just felt Leo was miscast. He just seemed too young. But every time I see it I still have a little tear at the mum in steerage trying to comfort her kiRAB.

Loved it - I saw it while on holiday in Sarasota - had to Q for the tickets and really enjoyed it.
Its very cool to say you hate it - not the best film in the world but a perfectly acceptable piece of work.

I loved Titanic at the time. I remember when it first came out in cinemas, the queues were crazy. I have seen it a few times since, and I still enjoy it. There was something about Leonardo DiCaprio when I was a teeny bopper that I really liked. Same as when he was in Romeo and Juliet, ahhhh. lol.

I was talking about it's impact overall (emotional included). The fact that there was so much fuss made about something that was essentially a fairly shallow love story is what made the haters all the more vocal.
