Titanic

That's unfair in my opinion since the film was a look back at the disaster from the perspective of an old woman's memories. They were hopelessley in love and her memories of Jack would have stayed with her for the rest of her life and probably meant more to her then her next love.

I watched the whole 3 hours a few weeks ago and it very nearly had me in tears. Great script, stunning soundtrack and fantastic cinematography, get in the story it can rip your heart to shreRAB. As far as i'm concerned it's one of cinemas greatest movies.

Funnily enough this is how it's split on the Deluxe Edition DVD as well (which for some god-awful reason splits the film across two discs but at least you can opt for the second disc alone if you just want to cut to the chase).

I think the sequence with the band playing over the old couple and mother reading her children the story in bed is incredible - as is the scene with the water crashing into the dome and all the passengers are hanging on for dear life. Horrific but looks stunning on screen.

Gone With the Wind does this too on its DVD set too. It's absolutely infuriating because there really isn't a need for it. You can get stunning picture quality on discs for TV shows that have more crammed onto them than one half worth of a film like GWTW or Titanic.

Why DO they do this? It really distrupts the flow and ruins the experience of watching these films. I hate it so much I have to copy the films onto my computer so I can burn them onto a single disc and watch them properly. Ridiculous!

When it first came out on DVD I borrowed it off my sister and I just couldn't get into it it dragged so much. And knowing it was 3 hours long I thought I really can't last with this so gave up.

But then when it started being shown on tv with ad breaks in it I totally got into it.

I was suprised when I saw it advertised as being on film4 last night as it was only on ch5 a couple of months ago, it must mean both channels have the rights to show it. Just a pity they didn't do their homework and spread it out a bit.

It is though a very good film to put on in competition with a long football match. Theres still bits of it that I'll go and do the washing up through and just listen so or play a game as it still is a long movie that can drag but theres enough of it that i like to watch to keep me going till the end.

dialogue didnt bother me when i was 16 and cant say i did last time i rewatched it couple of years ago tbh

im kinf of the world is iconic man!

I think it's a excellent movie but it could have been truly great had it not been for a few flaws. The score is very good but the song by Celine Dion is very sickly.Dicaprio was miscast and although the performances were gripping, they could have been more memorable.Ofcourse there needed to be a actual storyline involved (which turned out to be pure Hollywood) but it was still somewhat overlong.

The dialogue was the major letdown in my opinion.

Can't fault the 10/10 cinematography though or the iconic special effects or the costumes.Gloria Stuart deserves a mention too for her performance (best of the movie).

I'd give it 7.5/10.

I think the stigma attached to liking this film is unjustified. Good effects, good fictional storyline entwined with real events, good acting (I thought) and very dramatic with a nice soundtrack and a romantic theme. Suits me. No doubt people will pick holes now lol.

I agree, those two very short scene's really where the heartbreaking bit of the film in fact they're the only scenes that I thought were any good and had any real emotion behind them.

Yup! I was 16 when this came out and my girlfriend at the time loved it and made me watch it repeatedly, if it wasn't for cinema blowjobs I never would've agreed :D

OMG! How did I forget that ****ing song?!! *shudders*

2012 would be quite apt I should think. It'd be nice to see it re-released.

I agree about it having a timeless quality btw - I was thinking the same myself recently. You'd hardly think it'd been 12 or 13 years since it was released.

It's a very well made film. It just has some absolutely terrible examples of screen writing that is so bad at times it almost undoes the good.

That said, I do still enjoy Titanic very much. I was a teenager when it came out and absolutely obsessed with it. I remember waiting for the shop to open on the day the video came out. I like to critique the film from the point of view as someone older and wiser, but I can't bash it like others do. I think Cameron's heart was in the right place when he made it despite any flaws.

I agree. I thought that A Night to Remember was much more symbolic and more of a tribute to those who lost their lives on The Titanic.

I would also agree with this in that it was the overall special effects that made this film stand out. The ending was spectacular and truly gripping and made you feel the terror those on that ship must've felt.

But that said, I felt the movie overall was too long and it was essentially a love story and for that reason, I doubt I could watch it a second time.

As another poster said, the only redeeming feature of sitting through the entire tedious spectacle is to breath a sigh of relief when DiCaprio's character snuRAB it. The acting, the direction and the script are simply crap. I would rate it 2/10.
