I know many will disagree with me, but I just loved it. The story is amazing, the acting was great, the music was awesome...

It was romantic, funny, at times exciting... Some of the scenes are so beautiful. the collours, the scenery...

Kathy Bates is great as always, the supporting cast is doing such a great job...

Gloria Stuart deserved an AA. Can't understand why they gave iut to Kim Basinger...

Or my view is the story was cringeworthy, the script putrid, the direction smaltzy

Good special effects at times but not my cup of tea at all

Sorry, hated it a lot. Normally I'm a sucker for a romantic slushy film, but I ended up giggling during the bit when Leo drowned, which I don't think was the reaction they were after.

hated the film.. it was basically a love story that wasn't strong enough to stand up as a film on it's own so they set it on the titanic to have that sinking at the end of it

either do a love story or do a film of the titanic don't do half of each as then you end up with a load of rubbish

not seen it but i'm sure Pearl Harbour is similar

In many ways it was worse. The only tears I shed at Titanic were ones of grief at the money and time I'd wasted, and relief when the whole thing was over. Pearl Harbour was worse in that a) it had Ben Affleck in it and while I'm no Leo DiC fan, Affleck is worse b) Kate Beckinsdale was in it and she is a terrible actress IMHO and c) it was yet more US rubbish. Only plus side to it was that it wasn't as long as Titanic.

Imagine if they'd done an alternate ending, and the ship nicely sailed off to America.

3 hours of utter crap that'd be. At least we got a 30 minute bit worth watching. I think every time it's on TV, the ratings must be a lot higher for the last half hour than the rest of it.

that was the point i was trying to make the story itself doesn't stand up on as a film on it's own so they had to add the Titanic sinking bit at the end with the effects to get people to watch it

if you want a titanic film watch "A Night to Remeber" or even Raise the Titanic

if you want a love film watch Casablanca

this film is somewhere in the middle of the two with neither bit really working well on it's own

Yeah. Pearl Harbor is the same sort of thing actually. Boy + girl, boy goes off to war, boy dies, girl meets new boy, old boy comes back from the dead and gets annoyed at new boy. Hardly anything about the actual Pearl Harbor event!

What, so you think James Cameron wrote a love story and then thought "hmm this isn't quite working, I know, I'll set it on the Titanic and then we can have the ship sinking and that'll make it exciting"? No, the whole film is built around the sinking of the Titanic. Cameron wanted to make a film where he could recreate this event, so he "added" the love story to it, not t'other way round as you are suggesting :D I think people are overly-harsh on this film. Ok the love story is fairly predictable and cliched but the recreation of the ship and its sinking is awesome and for me it much outweighs any misgivings about the romance plot. I bet when you first saw it your were captivated by the spectacle of the sinking!

When I went to see it in 1997, I was only 12, so I absolutely loved it at the time. Leo DiCaprio was a heart throb for teenage girls at the time, so it's no surprise that I thought the film was great.

However, watching it now is pretty painful. It just drags on and on, and I can't bear it. What a difference a few years makes!

Sadly I wasn't, by the time the boat started to sink I was so bored, annoyed and generally narked off that I'd paid good money to see it I was on the verge of cheering :o

Don't get me wrong, I'm normally I complete sucker for angsty romance films, but this one left me cold.

I love the movie Titanic aswell, i have watched it many times and have the DVD set. I remember when it first came out on dvd a friend lent it my family and they asked if i wanted to watch it , i said no thanks, but one day i was so bored i watched it and i totaly loved it.
The story is great and the cast were fantastic in it :D ;)
