Titanic Special Edition

I recently heard the James Cameron is releasing a special ed dvd later this year featuring an extra 58mins of footage. I just wondered how many of you would want to buy?

Is the Californian this ship that got distress calls from Titanic but they weren't logged and they saw flares etc but thought they were having a party?

Titanic was a great film one of the best I have ever seen I dont know why do many people knock it when there are worse films about XxX for example

Yes, it features quite heavily in A Night To Remember, as does the Carpathia. I think The Californian was only 10 miles away the entire time! Amazing stuff.

All that said, controversially I think Cameron's is the better film. A Night to Remember was more detatched, Titanic puts you on the deck and then sinks it. Kenneth More was ace in the older film though, and the dialogue was better in more than a few places...

Always worth remembering that A Night to Remember is based on a non-fiction book and most of the characters are real. This may account for the detatchment.

I think as well, we are more aware of what happened in the final couple of hours since she was found in '85. That luxury wasn't around in 1958. Hence she sinks in one piece whereas we now know she broke on the surface (which incidently is what one first class survivor, Jack B Thayer who was 17, rembered seeing according to his evidence at the offical enquiry).

According toVariety , the new US version will have 58 minutes restored into it and will be released in October. Hopefully the UK's new version will be similar. This report suggests it will have a Dolby Digital EX soundtrack and be anamorphic.

I'll buy the new version, provided the price isn't ridiculous. Hopefully it will bring the Californian into the story, which was the biggest omission from the current version. (Watch "A Night To Remember" to understand that).

ARSE. Full details are now out on the Titanic DVRAB, and they've blown it - the "no holRAB" barred documentary originally promised has, in fact been barred (rumour has it by Cameron himself). So we get loaRAB of crappy featurettes, some deleted scenes, and even more crappy featurettes on the 3rd and 4th discs.

What a stupid, stupid, stupid wasted opportunity. I for one am throwing all my Titanic toys out of my pram.

i'd certainly consider it - considering how much they could have had on the original dvd, it was pretty lame with the extras - so the extra footage, if bundles with a load of extras about the titanic would be pretty good.

i know it got slated, but it was still incredibly powerful in the last half hour i think - i remember the whole cinema being utterly silent at the end - and not many films have that impact these days.

this is one film I haven't watched and have no intention of watching - what put me off 1)Leonardo 2)Celina's singing & 3)Whats the point of watching a film when you know what happens - the boat sinks - :)

I dont rekon he's that good looking. He know looks like baby boy-looks aging badly, which is why he's good in his role for the Aviator and such. He aint aging well, me mary.

I don't think Titanic deserves all the hate it has now picked up since its release. In a way, I think it was a victim of its own success.

That said, it did have flaws. The script was very hammy, and there were many other characters on board the ship who could've benefited from more time in front of the camera and more development. That said, that would probably have harmed the 'love story' angle, so it's swings and roundabouts.

But no-one can deny that it is a brilliantly directed, emotive and epic piece of cinema. It is one of the few films that has complete power over me emotionally when the ship sinks. I don't think I've ever cried in a film, but this is easily the closest I've got to it.

58 minutes??

Christ, I don't harbour the hatred some have for this film, I think it's completely average, but it dragged in the first place. How can they possibly restore 58 minutes? I hear another cash cow being milked vigorously.

"The water's freezing and there aren't enough boats"

Noooo?Really?

The one line that for some reason, had me in stiches.

Just could never take the film seriously.

"I hope you enjoy your time together!" As gallons of water go everywhere was another faviroute.

Not to watch a film because of an actor is silly. To not watch a film because of a song that's not even in the film is stupid. To not watch a film because you know how it enRAB is the stupidest thing I ever heard.

Have you ever seen a Rom-Com? You know how they're going to end. Any film based on someone's life? It's gonna end the same way as real life. Any film with Tom Cruise in? He ain't gonna die and he's gonna win!

Don't be a dumbass and watch one fo the greatest films ever made!

Absolutely. The Jack and Rose aspect of the film was an annoying distraction, then all the REAL drama was going on in the background.

We're we really supposed to care about the fictional poor-little-rich-girl and her friend that she only just met? People who had spend a lifetime together were being torn apart.

The detail in the film was amazingly accurate (save the suicide of Murdoch).
