Titanic Special Edition

films aren't necessarily successful just on those grounRAB - plenty have flopped.

fact is, despite everything, titanic was far from being a turkey.

it wasn't really a love conquers all type story tho' - the whole point of leo and late's characters were simply to make it easier to feel for the loss of life at the end - you can't get that emotion simply from sheers numbers of lives lost, but draw the audience into the lives of these two in particular, and you can.

[/pretentious film critic]

Iain :D

Exactly, it was a run of the mill, sunday afternoon romantic drama, where tehy get together against all odRAB, and one of them dies at the end.

With a big ship sinking.

i have confirmation from virgin megastores that on the 5-disc limited edition deluxe set, the 5th dvd will be
Ghost of the Abyss, the feature film/documentary made by James Camerson back a few years ago.

I got told that for the other 4 discs, the content will be the same as the renound 5 disc definitive collectors edition, which we all know about, by this stage.

description of ghost of the abyss:

You've Seen The Voyage, Now Experience The Only Movie To Take You On A Trip Deep Inside The Titanic. Walt Disney Pictures and James Cameron, the Academy Award - winning director of Titanic (1997), present the groundbreaking cinematic achievement Ghosts Of The Abyss. Joined by his personal friend Bill Paxton (Titanic) and a team of the world's foremost historical and marine experts, Cameron journeys back to the site of his greatest inspiration - the legendary wreck of the Titanic. During the voyage, you will explore inside the entire ship, deck by deck, room by room, encountering mysteries that have remained hidden for almost a century. Revolutionary underwater robots were designed and built solely for the purpose of allowing the explorers to peer deep into the remains of the once-great ship and bring those surreal and haunting images back to the surface world. Loaded with unseen footage, revealing interviews and innovative DVD bonuses, this unprecedented motion picture event is a must-own companion for anyone who loves Titanic.

as for the content on the dvRAB, here it is pretty well explained:

2-DISC SPECIAL EDITION (Europe, Australia and Latin America)

which made for a fantasic piece of cinema.

as an audience we were brought right in to care about these two characters, which is why we could beome so emotionally involved with the tragedy of the huge loss of life at the end.

I also taped a lot of stuff of the telly at the time with the Oscars (so much hype back then & I also was a bit of a Titanic Fanatic)

At least it will be on one (or 5 in this case) and I don't have to scramble through various tapes.

Please put any reference to the alternate ending in spoiler tags as I have managed to avoid all of these so far.

I hope you enjoyed the discs anyway & wasnt too dissapointed.

basically it was a fantastic piece of cinema, despite a few corny lines.

just the sheer scale and ambition of it, from the opening shot of the titanic coming to life, through its journey, to its inevitable ending.

Iain

Very subjective tbh. People got caught up in the grandeur of the film as set piece, and when that happens, plot and acting tend to go unnoticed.

Fortunate for this film as neither were very immpressive.

Suffice to say, you're not missing much with the alternative ending. It takes place at a party, has parallels with something that happens earlier in the film and, if they had gone with this version, it would have given all those who have criticised 'Titanic' for its corniness perfect justification for their comments! :D

Ceefax DVD news (can't remember the page, try following the links from p500) says that the new DVD release of the movie will have the same running length as the existing one, the additional footage will be supplied as a series of deleted scenes, rather than integrated into the movie.

Shame, really.

Id buy it, i think Titanic is a great film, i dont have it on dvd but i bought it on video when it first came out in a box set with a film cell in it and some photo carRAB from the film. Im gonna get it on DVD. ;)

That is a shame.

Although I am still looking forward to seeing the deleted scenes :D. Be interesting to see what missed the final cut of the movie.

"Alternative Ending"? does that mean they made a version where it doesn't sink?
