I don't think Rose dies in her sleep as she walks towarRAB the end of the pier when she is old. I think the end bit is her reminising or maybe a dream.
I've noticed that it has been 'windowboxed' by the BBC. Titanic was originally shot in 4:3 for TV exhibition and had the top and bottom chopped off to make 2.35:1 for cinematic exhibition (the R2 DVD is presented in this way). The BBC's policy is to crop such films to 16:9 and to do this the sides were chopped off as well.
What we were left with is a 'cookie cut-out' of the original picture as was first seen on BBC1 analogue in 2000.
is Ewan MacGregor dead at the end of "Shallow Grave" thing. Of course he is. And Rose is dead at the end of this. No problem there, she had a good innings.
Her being shown laying there and the camera panning over the pictures could suggest she has died and it shows she went and lived her life the way Jack wanted.
I also saw someones opinion on another forum, and they thought that it was her last dream before she died and the camera going into the white cieling at the end was her making her way to heaven.
I saw this for the first time last night. I wasn't expecting to be moved so much. Such a great movie. No film has ever made me cry, but this came close.
The reason I am convinced she dies at the end is:
(a) Jack says she is going to 'die an old lady, warm in her bed' or something
(b) all the people she greets at the end on the ship died on board
I remember going to see it at the pictures. It has to be the most absorbing film I've ever seen - I can honestly say no one in the cinema moved for three hours.
That said, having seen it since, including last night, there are so many problems with it - and I'm not a film mistakes geek by any means - but seriously, some of the script is dreadful and so out of place for a film in 1912 (numerous times) and I'm sure I spotted Molly Brown carrying a Louis Vuitton bag last night
