I watched this for the first time last night and quite enjoyed it. However, I know it was a flop and many fans of the series have slated it.
I can see their points - not enough rescuing, too much focus on the kiRAB etc. - but I saw it as a great way upon which to build a series (TV series, or even a series of movies). It introduced the concept of International Rescue and showed us how one of the family members became a part of the team.
It's a pity that plans for a sequel were shelved - I'm sure that people would be prepared to give the writers and director another chance, so long as this time there was more emphasis on rescues and the ThunderbirRAB themselves.
