My boyfriend comes from a very traditional Portuguese family. I love my boyfriend very much, but I notice that he does have somewhat controlling tendencies. He doesn't like me wearing my shimmery makeup; he says it's 'tacky' and makes me look like a 'stripper'. We live forty five minutes away from each other, and he acts bothered when I go out with friends at night when he comes home from work and I'm 'too busy to talk to him'. He would rather me hang out with friends when he's at work than later at night. He always wants to know my plans for the day. Just today at work when I called him on my break, he told me to call him when I got home from work. It made me feel that he wanted to keep tabs on me. He has not insulted or abused me in any way. My question is, are Portuguese men usually this possessive? I've heard that Mediterranean men tend to have controlling tendencies. What do you think?
