I purchased a 6141 at the local Bell store last week ($199) and asked that they install it for me (roof + snow = let someone else do it). Left the receiver, in the Bell Store bag next to the entertainment unit in the basement where the thing was to be installed.

The installer was scheduled for 1st thing this morning (8 AM), I had work to do plus also had renovators doing final touch-ups on a project.

Bell fellow showed up on time but I generally left him alone to do his thing. An hour or so later he's finishing up, I sign the paperwork and carry on. There is an opened 6141 box left by the TV. He had moved the entertainment unit out to do all the connections.

Ten minutes ago (12 hours later) I head into the basement to go move the entertainment unit back closer to the wall.

I see the Bell store bag where I left it. The 6141 I purchased a week ago still in the bag, untouched. The technician would have had to run the cable right behind the bag.

I'm an honest chap, and so I won't be keeping a 6141 I did not pay for, and I look forward (not) to dealing with Bell to sort this out.

Either going to be extremely easy, or so frustrating and painful that I might end up contemplating just keeping the thing in the end.

We shall see.

You "ought" to call Bell and explain this in case they decide to bill you for two receivers.

The order was probably not done right and they wrote down that you wanted to rent instead of wrinting down that you PURCHASED the 6141.

You should
-Unplug the 6141 they brought you
-Plug your 6141
-Call BellTV to activate it and explain at the same time that you never resquested a rental unit
-Resquest that they ship you return boxes to return the unit
-Put the receiver in the box they sent you, put the sticker on top and drop it at Post Canada
-Watch your next bill to see if any rental charges appear

Exactly all the "PITA" stuff I don't have time to deal with, particularly if I need to do what Ex AgentEV says I should do.

And here I thought all I need to do is call Bell on Monday, tell them what happened, keep the unit they installed and drop off the one I purchased back at the store. And not be charged rental fee (nor need to deal with CSRs for 2-3 months to get them to adjust billing situation)

Sigh ...

There is no reason to believe they installed a Rental unit unless you signed a Rental Agreement, it is very odd long none standard size piece of paper. If you did, then call Bell right away.

If that is NOT what you signed then I am almost certain Bell have no idea that you already had the receiver at all. Many Installations omit interesting things like "Equipment at customers premises" etc.

I am dumbfounded by the fact that the Work Order that you signed states that you have check the installation and all work was carried out to your satisfaction. You you normally sign without reading or checking paperwork. You also signed to say you had been shown how to use the receiver, again why sign if you never saw it working.

Did you just tell the guy to install it in the basement.? If so, why not at the same time show tell him the receiver was alongside the entertainment unit.?

The Bell Tech would have no reason to even look inside the Bell World bag, it is not his job to search for a product, it is your job as the Customer to show him it. Just imagine how different this thread would be if he had used the 6141 in the bag and it had been bought as a gift for a relative......

The Technician has made several mistakes as well, he should have had you walk through the installation process, location of Dish, route of Cables etc. He should also have had you, the customer, move the entertainment unit, that was not his job and he should have refused.

All in all both you and the installer made some mistakes, now it is left to you to fix them.

Just in closing, I am pretty sure that if you did NOT sign a Rental Agreement, you have a spare 6141.......

why worry about it....hook up that extra receiver and activate it also. Trust me....they will have plenty of time to make billing "mistakes" to make up for your "free" receiver.

The guys who install that are independent contractors.....its him you should feel sorry for...not bell.

I think the Installer made some serious mistakes too, by NOT having the Customer see where the Dish was going and walking through the full installation first, so I do not feel sorry for him at all, in this case.

We already had a dish, for the 9200. I did walk the installer through where the dish was located, where wiring entered house and where to run cable to the TV in the basement. I may have told him I had a receiver and it was near to the TV, though I am not 100% certain.

He started outside and my wife let him back in to do the inside stuff and had I known he was coming back in I certainly would have pointed out I already had the unit.

I won't be keeping 2 of these as I have no need for a third receiver (I'd have to buy another TV).

Will be calling Bell in the next few minutes. Let the fun begin.

Unfortunatly the agent would probably not be able to give you an answer...when an activation is made thought CSG the agent manually enters rental or purchase. Most of the agents don't even bother to ask the client if indeed the unit is purchased or bought so that tool won't give them the answer. The rental charge is applied to the account in 3-6 weeks following the activation of the rental unit. Even if the unit was registered as a rental it is therefore possible that the charge woudn't show yet if the agent looks in the future bill section.

My suggestion would be that you wait until your next bill to see if a charge shows on your bill for the rental or if a charge shows for the receiver

It happens often that mistake are made while placing orders...when the installation compagny came to install my 9200 (that was an addition to my 2X5900) they had an order for an original installation. The technician was upset to realise that there was already a dish in place, probally cause the installation of an additionnal receiver pays him less than an original instal. He also had down that I will be renting the 9200, but I purchased it

I will say again, if the OP has a Rental Agreement he is Renting it, if there is no Agreement Bell just gave him a receiver.

I wonder how much they will charge you for the receiver that was activated and signed for.
How long does the bell store give you for a return. I would keep the receipt handy.

Then Bell simply did not know you had a receiver "On premises", so I would return the one from the Bell World Store.

He'll likely get charged for the reciever. If it was a contract company that went out to do the install they send the info to Bell later with thier bill. This happened to me with additional line installations, they also charged for a multi switch and double billed for cable runs and reciever hookups. I got the run around with that that they had to investigage the installer and the contract company before they could straighten it all out. took about 3 months to resolve the additional charges.

So if its anything like what happened with my move install then the charge for the reciever out of the tech's inventory will likly show up on a bill a month or 2 down the road. I'd be phoning and making sure that that doesn't happen or wait it out and see and then try and fight it afterwards.

If only life was this simple......lol

The Installation Companies DO NOT Invoice Bell.

They get paid by the codes that the Installers use to close the jobs using the DART ( Dispatch Activation & Repair Tool) or SEFAS (cannot remember what this acronym stands for).

So when closing this job, the Tech would enter codes for the work he carries out, he has no knowledge of who is paying for the receiver at all. If it is a Rental Order he knows this because the DART or SEFAS will tell him and he will complete a Rental Agreement with the Customer.

So as you see, it is a wonderfully complex system they run.

Even the Work Order that you get from the Technician does NOT go to Bell, it stays with the installation Company. The only time Bell will see if is if they request a copy be sent via fax, if there is a dispute with the Customer. This is why it takes so long to deal with problems.

Will the installer note that he supplied a receiver (with his DART) and let bell take care of the billing.

Basically yes, sort of.

He will enter the R00 # of the receiver and then it is upto Bell to work out the rest.

I kind of figured it had to be a little more complex then what i was saying. Makes it easier to scam a bit as well. But thats a whole other conversation.

If I were you I'd take back the one you bought... Do not activate it!
If you do you're going to have 2 of them to deal with!
