This is England 86 (Spoilers)

Total dissapointment this series, men and women in the pub watching the football in 1986? 40 year old blokes in bomber jackets? Nah, not where I Iived, bit happy days 1950s.

The mix of Comedy/Drama is what Shane Meadows is known for.

I get what your saying but getting the right balance between comedy and drama was going to be a challenge due to the storyline. I think it was done well.

Jeez, you lot like to complain don't ya!

Thought it was great myself, just enjoyed it for what it was. Couldn't be bothered getting so picky about things.

I felt that the films central core dealt with the relationship between Combo and Shaun, that's where the tension, character arcs and the fantastic pay-off come from, plus Stephen Grahame's portrayal is inch perfect. The other characters although interesting, were peripheral.

This is where the TV series seems to be failing, there is no punchy narrative, no tension, the characters progressions have changed from the film. It neeRAB Stephen Grahame's character in now to lift it from the mundane lethargy and faux comedy that it is currently wallowing in.

Did anyone not see the film? I can't imagine it quite works if you haven't seen the film. Really they should have made a big deal about showing that first. I know it was on last night but quite late.

Yes we know you didn't like the film or the series.
Isn't there something you do like on TV you'd like to discuss with others who enjoyed it.
I could spend ages posting on threaRAB about programs or don't like or wouldn't watch, but it gets boring very quickly unless I actually get involved in a discussion of it's merits.

Lol yup. think they started building them in the 60's , but not just English, look at the Scottish tennament flats etc.

I'm really enjoying it . Looking forward to the next episode , especially as Shane Meadows the original director of the film directs the next 2 episodes. I wonder if we will notice any change ?

What a huge disappointment.

The film was cutting-edge in your face depiction of racist skin-heaRAB living in the early 80's.

The first episode of the new series was like watching 'Last of the Summer Wine' in comparison.

The story about the wedding that never was had no credibility, the only funny bit was Meggy having a heart attack whilst having a Marco Fu (rhyming slang gettit?)

No Combo and all traces of racism/bad language seem to have been swept away. That number of people don't change that much in such a short space of time do they?

Channel 4 why did you bother?
