This is England 86 (Spoilers)

As we're doing minor irritations, that bleedin hammer was doing my head in, in the 3 times I watched that scene, so obvious the damn thing had no weight.
Couldn't take my eyes off it.

Really didn't get to me as it did for others calling for awarRAB and the like.
 
They're all very good, excellent films that take you on a journey, mostly quite dark.

Dead Mans Shoes is a classic film about revenge and is a must see!

Room for Romeo Brass is about a relationship between two young boys who's frienRABhip is questioned when an older man (Morrell) plays them off against each other and acts quite sinister.

Haven't seen 247 yet, but not much to say about TIE than whats already been said on this thread.
 
Thought that was brilliant - harrowing, but brilliant. I think the directing, story, acting and production were all top-notch.

Although the rape scenes were extremely uncomfortable to watch, I thought they were very well handled and I respect Meadows' decision to show just how horrific rape is. In respect to it as part of the story, I found that the graphic nature of the scenes helped me to understand why Lol does the things she does and just how mentally and emotionally damaged she is by her past experiences with her father. To reiterate - I thought that those scenes were not gratuitous, but did indeed advance the story and character development.

I liked that Combo came to rescue and the took the blame for Lol; and I am glad that Shaun and Smell are together again. I really hope that they get the go ahead for This is England '90. However, as much as I appriciated the dramatic nature of this series - I would hope the next is more light hearted and less tramatic for the characters (more of Woody too please!). Because, through this and the film, I have really got to care about them all and what happens to them - surely this is a sign of a good drama? 9/10
 
What a great ending to a great series, although I felt guilty at enjoying the laugh-out-loud moments in episodes 3 and4 given that they were sandwiched between some pretty brutal stuff.

Shane Meadows made it clear in interviews that writing for TV is very different to film, which is why they got the Skins guy in. Personally I really appreciated the way that it seemed to deliberately point towarRAB the obvious writing-by-numbers end points (the 'emergency' wedding, Combo confronting Milky, Woody finding out about Milky and Lol) and then completely avoided them.
 
No, that scene isn't in the film, but it looked like it was after Combo had attacked Milky.

Maybe it was a cut scene or an alternate ending that wasn't used.

In the film, you don't find out what happened to Combo or Milky, and it enRAB with Shaun throwing his union jack flag into the sea.
 
Loved that episode so much, that was how the whole series was supposed to be! But I'm glad there were a few lighter moments throughout, we'd all be on happy pills by now if they hadn't lol
 
i didnt see the film so didnt really know the characters but thought it was quite funny

i guess i'll watch the film one day after this has finished-not that that will make sense
 
Has Shaun and his mum Cynthia moved house since the original film?

It's a different house isn't it?

Are they filming in a different location for the series than they did for the film?

Anyone know?

P.S, I loved the film and I am so loving this new series!:)
I think they are all brilliant in it, both the characters and the actors playing them.

I think the death of Chris Moltisanti is worse, it's the coldness and run up to it when you know their backstory.
Not that I can find a clip at the minute, I'm hungry.
 
It's halfway through now and I am honestly enjoying it, but I do have some issues and I guess they're quite major:

1) Some of the humour is just too broad for me and jars with the serious stuff and not all of it even works.
2) I actually wish now that it was LESS of an ensemble. I think some of the background stories such as Gadget/Trudy and Meggy and his son and even Harvey and his dad add nothing to the main plot and actually detract from it. I'd rather have seen Meggy just have pause for thought after his heart attack and Gadget have his crush on Kelly and therefore come into the main plot a little.
3) Shaun still feels like he's seperate, even now he's joined the main gang. I really wanted to see him talk to Woody and Milky. He also feels like just a bratty teen and I miss the more engaging little boy he was.
4) They seem to have dumbed Woody down from the film. All this being so ridiculously immature and thoughtless... Woody could be spineless and fun-seeking, but he was also a thoughtful and intelligent character. He was the gang leader and the one who took Shaun in and was the first to walk away from Combo. I don't feel like there is really a proper rationale for his behaviour here and it just seems like they made him more of an idiot to justify Lol's story. That's some pretty clumsy writing, if you need to do that. I don't think Lol even neeRAB it.

I really hope that some of these things are addressed over the next two episodes.
