This is England 86 (Spoilers)

I have to agree. I recorded 'Once Upon A Time In The MidlanRAB', but I'm seriously considering if I have better things to do with my time.

I think this rape scene has provoked some overly strong reactions - I don't consider it was unwatchable or shocking, I felt it seemed fairly typical of a scenario or situation where something like that is going to occur if someone had those type of tendencies.

Not that I condone rape or understand the motivations of those who do, other than it being about asserting control, power or dominance, it's almost certainly not about the sex. We'll have to see how the characters react in the aftermath - this will tell us if the writing has any depth.

It did run in parallel with Smell's counselling of Shaun's distaste of discovering his mother's antics (!) 'everyone has neeRAB', but otherwise unless it lenRAB weight to the plot it did seem a bit of a distraction. Ok, so we get to see Lol's point proved about her distrust of her father, but is that purely to explain her state of mind with regarRAB to her relationship problems with Woody and 'situation' with Milky?

StranRAB need to be drawn together in the final episode and in an hour we need also to know why Combo has returned. It's either gonna be unmissable, fail to do this tying up, or it will just leave things open-ended. I'm gonna stick with it because I've watched 3 of the 4, but I can't say I'm rooting for any of the characters, I'm barely interested in what becomes of them.

This was such an excellent series. There were a few things that didn't seem right for 1986 such as people saying "end of" etc. Also, I don't remember anyone having England flags on their houses in 1986.

Vicky McClure is such a brilliant actress.

Anybody else think than Combo is going to do something in the flat that he doesn't want Shaun to see? Maybe he has something stashed there or something? He seemed in a bit of a hurry to get rid of him.....

Seen the film, i don't live in England so i can't really relate to the behaviour that used to go on as depicted in the film. I've always lived in a nice area and we never treated people like that but as a story or a work of fiction i can see why it would be impressive to people and get a following. Thankfully this is only on for 4 weeks.

Realy enjoying this series. Its not as powerfull as the film by any means, but they have done a good job.

I do have one issue...

I am finding it a bit jarring the way charachters like Meggy and especially Banjo whose behaviour in the film was so abhorent and frankly dissgusting and crucially were so invloved in Milky's attack seem to be the best of frienRAB with the gang with little explanation of what has gone on in the time that has elappsed to bring this about.
I would say it was poor/lazy writting but I want to give Shane Meadows the bennefit of the doubt becuase I know he is so talented. Hopefully episode 3 will elaborate. If not I will be dissapointed cause something about it just jarrs.

Also am I right in assuming Harvey is the same Harvey Shaun was being bullied by in the film, which leaRAB to his meeting the gang

Woody: Harvey? what sort of name is Harvey?

I know! You knew something wasn't right when he said that and then it was just this awful tension waiting for something bad to happen. The way it all unfolded was very natural and realistic... which made it all the more uncomfortable. What a truly sickening man and poor shy, naive little Trev.
