This is England 86 (Spoilers)

If he hadn't of tried to rape her, people would be saying theres no way should she of smacked him with the hammer. It would have taken the focus away from the point, it would have become a discussion about something quite different.

But I think she would have done it anyway..........

I think Lol felt responsible for stopping her father from hurting people so badly, in one of the previous episodes she said "I don't think he'd do it to Kelly, it's just me" ........ she had kind of convinced herself that it was only her he would hurt like that - which is one thing, when she discovered that he raped Trev - and had the realization that it didn't stop with her, something she'd convinced herself of - she probably felt it was her job to fix the problem, her father, her responsibility to stop him from hurting anyone else.

I spent 1986-89 in Sheffield, so it will always have a special place in my heart. I'm also playing spot the place as well. :)

Didn't see what was down the front of his trackies, but he reminded me of the meat head casuals who hung about at that time.

LMAO at Gadget trying to make a swift exit.

Yeah I'm not taking anything away from the acting in this scene as it was some of the best stuff seen on tv, superb by both but she knew he was an absolute nutter and as soon as she revealed the hammer I think she would of thought now something bad is going to happen, he is going to be real mad, still I guess as soon as she got it out she maybe could of regretted showing it to him and wanted to take in the situation and compose herself, its not something you do everyday is it. , yeah I'll let it go, life's never straight forward either.

I totally agree, censorship has been a pet hate of mine for a long time.
Used to spend a lot of time at http://melonfarmers.co.uk/
Censorship was at it's worst in the late 80s after the video nasties thing and the 90s. When dvd and the internet exploded, The BBFC and it's worldwide equivalents discovered there wasn't any point cutting scenes/banning movies when people could order the uncut Dutch or Japanese versions (or download them on the net). Hollywood has also significantly loosened up with quite a bit of torture porn (hostel etc) and even rape revenge (Last house remake) being made the last 5 years.

We don't want things to go backwarRAB !

Loved it. I only watched the film last night and loved that too.

As for the styles - i think it's very regional. I wasn't born til '87, but i have pictures of people still dressing in looks from the earlier years of the 80s - some of them even wearing them into the 90s.

The Chicago House phase never touched my family or their circle of frienRAB. Which is a shame. I'm glad i was able to look back on that period on my own as i got older.

I haven't seen any posts about the worse scene ever.

As for the Shameless, Sopranos, Sons of Anarchy thing, probably self selecting both in the size of audience and type of audience, long running series the audience knows what they're going to get.
Same follows for the torture type horror films that have been doing the rounRAB.

BIB not the way I read it.
He told her to get out.
She served her purpose at that point and he had no further use for her.
Pretty sure he implied earlier she'd teased him by simply being in the same room.

As for those worried about censorship, HBO's product enRAB up on Ch4 uncut as far as I know, I wouldn't worry too much about censorship.

The rape scene was awful and I felt so sorry for poor Trev. . That was brutal and very realistically done. We've never seen much from Trev and she seems to be shy and quite naive. He's an evil, evil man. I hope Lol kills him and I bet she's going to. What I want to know is who will go down for the crime?

I do feel for Lol, but I don't like her right now, does that make sense? I know why she is in such a dark place and she is essentially having a sort of breakdown. She neeRAB to be saved from herself, but is pushing away anyone who can help her. She is actually being quite emotionally abusive to Woody though.

It's as though this is not the man who she loved for 8 years and planned to marry two seconRAB ago. She treats him with a shocking level of contempt that he does not deserve. I rather think Woody is better off out of it as she is not fit to be in a relationship with anyone. At the same time, I'd love for the two of them to make up and for her to open up to him about her father.

Is there no chance of a happy ending? :(

I thought it was good. Seeing the same old characters was brill and as many have pointed out the chemistry between them is just fanastic (especially Lol, Woody, Milky)

I felt it was misisng the magic of the film though. Shane just didnt resound the same with me as he did in the film (although it will be hard to beat his phenomenal performance there)

But early days and already looking forward to the next episode.

For me 6.5/10
