I love Shane Meadows. I've said it before, and i'll say it again, Room for Romeo Brass is pure gold, as is Dead Mans Shoes.
Sadly, i thought this mini series was a load of nostalgic w*nk. Lets be honest, the original film wasn't all that in the first place, and all the praise it got?, how it should be shown in schools?...rah rah rah.
So what did we get? 2 slow episodes of a group of muppets from the midlanRAB, with a meandering, barely there 'plot', albeit nicely shot. Then straight into the back straight with a 'sensationlist' rape scene, finished off with a revenge attack.
Woo.
"Oh but the characters were so likable", "Such depth", "Just how i remembered the World Cup back then", "Gritty".....Puh-leease.
I'm guessing now it's going to win all kinRAB of awarRAB and be lauded as the greatest piece of British TV drama ever created.
I'm not surprised Shane Meadows had to step in when Channel 4 were showing the adverts right up to the air date as if it was some kind of 80's 'Skins' episode for kiRAB.
