They're killing Never Mind The Buzzcocks

The show is just dull without Simon Amstell (love Grandma's House btw) but I'll be tuning in to rip the piss out of Westwood fo' sure :D

Lamarr was great at first but it stopped being a music quiz and turned into the Mark Lamarr show and, for me, it became almost unwatchable. I though Simon was great though.

It's always going to be a problem when you go down the guest host route that some will be great and others not so much. I personally love Catherine Tate but if Frankie Boyle had become permenant host I would have stopped watching.

I liked watching Simon Amstell but at the same time he just put down everyone so wouldnt they run out of guests who would be willing to go on? Didn't Phil Jupitus say on a recent show it became too awkward with Simon slating everyone and he wasn't sure he wanted to stay...but then he left so he stayed

I endured Mark Lamarr, can't stand the man, Amstell was ok, but the best presenter by far was the guy out of the Kaiser Chiefs, he was really funny.

Mark Lamarr was a hateful beast on NMTB, I think I only watched it because of the exposure of people in bands and being able to play along, as alternative music wasn't particularly exposed back in those days. I respected Lamarr on The Word, because he seemed very true to himself and his beliefs, and I was bowled over by the fact that he helped write and appeared 15 Stories High, which is amazing, but I found him repellent otherwise.

Amstell was hugely likeable and very funny on the show, I've always found him very likeable (although he dumped a friend of mine he was dating via his radio show, which was mean) and he's got quite a bad reputation with my gay friends, but thats not my business really, his comedic output is charming, so once he left NMTB the show lost its sparkle for me...finally. However, Noel Fielding, as much as I want to dislike him, was a very welcome addition.

I sort of understand where the OP is coming from, I don't think Catherine Tate is really right for the show but it seems they're sticking with the guest host format for the moment, and it's only one episode. They may be looking for another replacement though, but no one really fits the bill yet. I do feel like the choices they make aren't always the best ones. They got very lucky with Simon Amstell, he fitted perfectly.

I agree with your smilies, although I'd switch Jack Dee and Josh Groban. I love Jack Dee's stand up but I don't think he was very memorable as a guest captain. But I suppose as a host he could end up being quite like Mark in some ways. It might work. Josh Groban was a very good guest when he was on (he saved an otherwise dying episode). I'm looking forward to seeing him host.

I really want them to get Matt Edmondson on, he'd be so good for it. They ought to at least have him as a guest this series to see how he does.

Yeah he did say something along those lines recently. Phil and Mark were good friends though, so it doesn't surprise me that he preferred him. Simon and Mark both played the role of nasty host but I always felt with Mark there was sometimes more genuine malice whereas Simon was just doing it for the cameras you know? I've read a few reports about how nice Simon is to the guests backstage, and how Mark often wasn't. Adam Buxton for example wrote up his experiences of being a guest on Buzzcocks and HIGNFY, they're an interesting read:

Love Amstell :D The only decent guest host last time was Rhod Gilbert imo, they really should have given him the gig. As for Edmondson, he often comes across as a wannabe Amstell, which is particularly jarring when guest hosting NMTB see James Corden and Jack Whitehall last time round.

I don't mean to be rude, and I understand you're not a fan..but she's only hosting one episode. And it normally runs for 13 episodes a series right? Hardly a big deal, it's just one episode to avoid if you can't cope with her for half an hour. If she was the permanent host, I'd get where you were coming from.

I loved her when she was a guest last year, best episode of last series. She had great chemistry with Noel especially, she made Phill laugh like proper out loud (which I was thinking was near impossible until last year), and she connected with the audience (most anyway).. :)

On the plus side, Noel's returning, and if latest photos are anything to go by, he looks fantastic. Good year for Buzzcocks I reckon.. which I never thought I'd say after Simon left.

Alternative music didn't receive much exposure in the mid 90s? It was getting more airplay and attention than it has pretty much ever before or since.

Totally agree with your points on Lamarr though.
