They're killing Never Mind The Buzzcocks

Just thought I would share this information, not least because I think it's a pathetic decision on the Beeb's behalf.
Catherine Tate is hosting one of the first episodes of the forthcoming series of Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

Sorry, but if this is the quality of the guest hosts that we're going to get, then I'd rather the BBC cancelled it. Mark Ronson is another host confirmed - who I actually like, but he isn't really the best choice either.

Rhod Gilbert was said to be interested in taking on the role of host permanently but then the BBC commissioned a new panel show for him instead. Frankie Boyle was the only other decent guest host during the last series but has other commitments and probably wouldn't do it anyway.

Would Mark Lamarr do it again or could they bribe Simon Amstell back? Anything has got to better than the likes of the insufferable Catherine Tate.

In order to be a good host, you have to have the backbone to intimidate the guests and make witty comments about the music industry.

Or just read out the witty comments that the script writers have made up for you.
Personally I stopped watching it when Simon Amstell took the hotseat, so as far as I'm concerned I canceled it myself, many years ago.

It failed for me when Mark lamarr left i don't know the reason why he left but its never been the same :(

Frankie Boyle would be awesome yeh :D

I thought Amstell was easily as good as Lamarr. It was always the intention that Lamarr would return to the show at some point but it looks like this isn't happening now (his departure was quoted as being a "break").

For what it's worth, the other guest hosts during the series are actually quite good, so I was a bit too quick to slate the forthcoming series really:

Mark Ronson
Catherine Tate
Jack Dee - :)
Josh Groban
Tim Minchin - :)
Robert Webb - :)
Tim Westwood
Frankie Boyle - :)

I guess there will be a couple of others as well. Matt Edmondson would be a good choice, I hope he appears at some point.

I went to the Mark Ronson recording and, while he wasn't the best at reading the autocue, he seemed to have a good rapport with the rest of the people
I thought the recording was hilarious, but I can imagine when it's on TV it won't be anywhere near as good, sadly

Just to correct you on this pont. Mark was never coming back even if he said he "needed a break,"
My nephew worked on the show for a couple of Mark's last series and Mark made it clear to everyone on the production he was bored of the show and didnt give a toss about it.
The "having a break" was more a hope if he didn't do it for a couple of series (they do two a year) he would want to come back.
Simon was so successful as a host in his first season, the ratings didnt drop and it freshened up what was becoming an stale show (Lamarr was right about that) he got offered the show as the permanent replacement.

Bill Bailey said a similar thing about why he left. He had done 10 series and he was bored. It didn't help he would be sitting next to someone and he had know idea who they were. He was losing interest in it so he decided that's it I'm off.

So because you don't like Catherine Tate and Mark Ronson (the latter as a host anyway) you want the show cancelled? Don't be so selfish, the BBC doesn't revolve around you you know.

Here's a thought, don't watch it.

Here's a thought, stop twisting my words.

I merely stated that *if* the guest hosts don't improve, then *perhaps* they should cancel the show or at least reconsider which direction they're taking it in. I like Mark Ronson but having never seen him host anything before, was unsure about him guest hosting Buzzcocks.

I don't find Catherine Tate particularly funny and don't think she'll be suited to hosting the show, but I could easily be wrong with that assumption so am willing to watch with an open mind.

Subsequently, the other guest hosts are great and I'm really looking forward to the new series now.

I adored Simon Amstell and was gutted when he left - it was never the same in the last series. Mark Lamarr was brilliant too.

The best host in the last series with David Walliams - he was fantastic and very funny.

When does the new series start ?

i too doubted that amstell would be a decent replacement for lamarr..but actually i think he slightly topped him...

not keen though on the guest presenters thing.... reckon its got more to do with saving money then anything else.

It is and i wonder how far he would go and how dark is comedy would be to take the piss :D

edit btw

Does anyone remember when Huey from the Fun lovin Criminals hosted, it was one of the funniset ever he was a little high am sure :D
