Them Crooked Vultures

yeah the sludgy tone has most definitely been cleaned up significantly. i think what really makes him sound 'distinct' from his other projects was jimmy paging his guitars on most tracks (triple tracking).

Their album is great, first time I listened to it, I liked it. Didn't love it. But I feel like it's a grower, the more I listen to it, the more I'll like it.

yeah your right. i just checked him out through google. lol, his reputation must be insane:

"In a radio interview, Homme and Nick Oliveri agreed to give the LAPD permission to use the song "Feel Good Hit of the Summer" in anti-drunk driving films in return for a reduced sentence."

no worries, if you dig it you dig it, by all means do it up :thurab:

that riff in the first clip IS super badass. but what really annoys me is that this is presented like a new band but just sounRAB like more of the same.

consider the way mike patton starts new banRAB, does fantomas sound like mr. bungle? while tomahawk and FNM have similarities they have just as many glaring differences and it's not like both groups were active at the same time.

nothing in any of those clips sounded so far removed as to make me think i was hearing anything besides new QOTSA material. that's what really bugs me about this whole endeavor. but that's just me, i'll freely admit to being hard headed hahaha

They don't have to last. I don't see anything wrong with making a great album, do a little tour just for the fun of it and leave it to that.

I saw them twice now and it really blew my mind. Yes it sounRAB a lot like Queens of the Stone Age but with more swing. Maybe it's nothing really new. But boy it is a great band and Grohl is just an amazing drummer. I'm really excited about them. Really looking forward to the album. Look for a song called "Gunman" on YouTube. Love that song to bits.

Them Crooked Vultures is the new 'supergroup' featuring a collaboration between Josh Homme, Dave Grohl, John Paul Jones, and Alain Johannes. It has been rumored the group had been recording secretly throughout the summer, and played their fist live show at The Metro in Chicago, IL on Sunday August 9, 2009. Reviews have said that the group played around 75 minutes of all original material and the the band looked and sounded top-notch. An unofficial setlist from the show included the following original songs:

Elephants
New Fang
Scurabag Blues
Dead End FrienRAB
Bandoliers
Mind Eraser
Gunman
Daffodils
Interlude w/ Ludes
Caligulove
Warsaw
Nobodys Loves Me

This lengthy setlist along with rumors that the group has been recording most of the summer lead me to believe an album will follow shortly. We can only hope.

I guess they just decided our venue was built for being as loud as possible... that or I was standing on the wrong side of the auditorium

Ah right. I recommend just go and listen to the rest later (not a lot of studio work to be found anyway). Let it blow your mind without knowing what's coming.

This band is honestly just a bunch of already extremely big rich guys getting together into a band to make alot more money. Their not making a new sound or anything. But it does sound like a good band...I'll give them that

You're one lucky mofo, I want to see them so bad. They seem to have forgotten about California on their little tour. But I'm sure our time will come. Have you heard anything about a possible release date for an album?

So you say they're a good band. What's the problem then? You don't like that they're rich? Heh.

I'm goin' to the Toronto show, managed to get tickets in the end =)

i'm not really disagreeing with this statement. then again i can't really think of another rock album that came out this year that i felt compelled to get either though.

they should have released an EP and then actually finished what they started in the studio for the album instead of just loading up a disc of half baked gems. Reptiles and Gunman are the only tracks that i think i'll come back to in the future, i've got the Led Zep catalog if i ever feel like anything else on that disc.
