The worst film of 2003 so far is?

90 sittings eh, Im really impressed. One doesnt have to be an expert in dog shit to know one has trodden in it.

Im in this thread for the reason given in the title, you appear to have missed the plot, Belleview Rendevouz is still crap. ;)

well nemesis was plain bland !
no excitement or anything but not the worst of the year !
another let down was the rundown *ing the rock
the promos made the movie look cooler than it really was
not the worst film of 2003 but not up to the mark simply your everyday good guy meets funny guy and then they share a oddball adventure and end upas frienRAB!

The matrix sequels imho were not the best we have ever seen, in fact at times they really did border on amateurish at times. Take the Brawny Brawl sequence in reloaded for example which while much hyped before the movie was released was a major dissapointment, What is the point of being able to produce hundreRAB of agents smiths if they are so obvious that they are all computer animations. They didnt look real, didnt move like they were real and imho ruined the enjoyment of the movie. And dont get me started on the special effects on the final fight scene in Revolutions which made Brawny Brawl look professional (lets just say the flying was less believable than that of Superman and that was bloody made in the 70's and those water effects seemed to serve just one purpose that ebing to hide the fact the special effects were shit and that they had run out of ideas for good fight scenes)

Reloaded managed to redeem itself in my eyes due to the Car chase scene which really was enjoyable and was a bit that managed to recapture some of the innovation and enjoyment from the original although that utterly pointless rave scene which i'm told was only 5 mins long but which i'm sure lasted for half and hour at least helped reduce the positive impact on my opinion of the movie that the chase scene gave.

Revolutions on the other hand had no redeeming features that I could see, it was predicatable, dull and just reeked of a cash in. I wanted to like the movie but it was as if they had forgotten what was good about the original and thus produced a movie that was barely reconisable as a matrix movie. The first thing I said when I came out of the movie was "I would have perfered sitting through gigli again" which even suprissed myself as gigli itself was really poor (although I have to say came out of that viewing thinking it wasnt as bad as I had been expecting after the reviews from the US i'd read. My expectations were extreamly low and it did manage to surpass them)

Ok perhaps my views of Revolutions arent that objective as I was probally going in expecting something that wasnt delivered thus making the movie seem worse (which I would say is the reason alot of you have listed Hulk here, you went in expecting a conventional superhero movie much like X-Men and Spiderman where its really just all about the action and instead were confronted with a very arty picture that like the comic book was much more about the people involved and their emotions that the action) but it really did have no redeeming features about it and just pips gigli for my worst film of the year

How anybody can objectively rate either of the two Matrix sequels below films like Gigli, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Charlies Angels 2 or The Hulk, shows that they're just jumping on the bandwagon right there. Maybe you were let down by it, does that make it the worst film of the year? I think not. Gigli by a mile. Texas Chainsaw Massacre was ultimately pointless, unscary crap, Charlie's Angels was just a stupid extended music video and The Hulk was poor to say the least. Gigli however has no redeeming qualities at all.

Well

The Ring - What a boring film, try's to emulate an inspiring japanese film and loses all the mystic and mystery in translation, I can't belive there was actually someone in the cinema who was actually scared by it, my and the partner were nearly in hysterics, the tesne moments may as well had have neon signs on say jump here !

and

Ghost Ship - Suffered from a wafer thin plot and no direction, the only saving grace was the excellent opening all two minutes of it, after than it dropped off quick ! Shame as there were very distint bits of the film nicked from your direct to video late night Sky Movies films, just not updated very well.

And, for the record, the very worst film of 2003 was (drum roll) S Club: Seeing Double. The very worst kind of rubbish Columbia Tristar have released in this country

:D

Rob Schneider is the worst thing to happen to film comedy since that Pauly Shore pillock. I take that back, Tom Green is the worst thing, that guy makes Chubby Brown look like Oscar Wilde.

I quite enjoyed the Hulk, am I alone?

I'm sure the worst film of the year is Dumb and Dumberer but I can't comment because naturally, I didn't go and see it.

hey what ever u say the special effect of reloaded and revolutions were not bad at all!

but i am an matrix die hard fan so guess to all the matrix bashers it seems like a 70's movie! with cheesy effects

and god u prefer gigli over matrix ?? u r seriously screwed

I think your comments on the Hulk are unfair. It was much better than the Matrix sequels. But then, perhaps you were let down by it!
I can't comment on the other films in your list because I purposefully avoided them.

No maybe because they just didnt like it........or maybe thats just an unbelievable thing to happen.......people who just dont like things.......Na that never happens;)

You claim your superior expertise and then confirm one of your evenings out seeing S Club ?

I went to see BR hoping for something good, I hope you are simply the projectionists apprentice, or usher, otherwise your preference in film entertainment leaRAB me to believe you are too young for legal PG viewing.

For me it was The Hulk, and Star Trek: Nemesis which pains me to say as I am a major Star Trek fan.

Oh and all this crap about the Matrix. Curious that someone whinges about the computer-generated look of all the Agent Smith's in number 2. I mean, the premise of the movie is that the Matrix is a computer-generated world so of course they will look CG'd. Picky I know but you can continue to pick apart the Matrix trilogy for decades and still never be satisfied.

The fact that these films have generated so much discussion marks them as a success for me. I enjoyed all three.

Can I mention Madge's Swept Away? I know it was DTV but it was still new this year and it was a bag of shite that stank to high heaven like nothing since last years Reign of Fire.

the hulk was a let down because people expected a hero by night geek by day action movie
but what they got instead was a over emotional guy with a biiiigg green ego problem
the movie was not bad but not what we wanted it to be !

hot chick was horrible

but it doesnt even compare to dumb and dumber or what ever the name was i saw bout half of it and fell asleep

I said objectively. That means putting aside personal opinion and weighing up a film on its merits. Whereas there are plenty of people who like the Matrix, just as there are plenty who liked the Hulk, I doubt you will find many (if any) who liked Gigli. To say the worst film of this year is something that a lot of people enjoyed and understood like Revolutions and Reloaded is just silly.

I always thought that it was quality not quantity that counts. If you've seen 40 new releases this year already then you yourself must have waded through hours and hours of shite.

Bellville Rendezvous wasn't good. It wasn't even ok. I wish that I had never wasted the cash to be honest. Though I imagine that this film is one of those things that you either love or you hate.

There are many opinions in this thread that I disagree with (I must be drawn to bad films :o) but as it's a thread for people's opinions on bad films they are entitled to it.

But if you read my post on this thread i stated that even though the Matrix was a disapointment to me, i didnt rate it as worst cause it aint that bad of a film it was just a disapointment....but yes i kinda understand what you mean.

What a piss poor excuse for the use of such piss poor special effects.

If you had actually bothered to pay any attention to the any of the trilogy you would realise how stupid you sound when you post things like this. Yes the movies about a computer generated world but the whole premise is that its so lifelike the humans trapped in the matrix dont actually realise they are in a computer generated world. As such claiming they should look CG'd comes across as a 'fanboy' responce.

The problem the last two matrix films had was simply they started to believe the hype about how great cg is. The first movie was successful as they were able to merge traditional film making techniques from all around the world with the new CG techniques. When the empasis was shifted from combining the techniques to one where the CG was the center stage it just lost alot of its impact. CG just isnt good enough to do what they wanted alone and as much empasis neeRAB to be put on the supporting traditional techniques for them to work.

The Matrix managed to achieve this belnd perfectly and will go down as a classic. The sequels didnt and will no doubt sink into relative obsurity.

Your just full of stupid comments today arent you. Using your theory the only that are successes are a) Those that do the really big business b)Those films that are truely outstanding and c)those that are extreamly poor. You see its movies that fall in these groupings that are the movies discussed and as such movies like gigli would be considered successful by your definition.

While movies that maybe dont make waves at the box office but take an acceptable amount, and which dont make waves on the filmaking front but which are well made, enjoyable ect are the failures. I just hope you dont find yourself as head of a studio else we will end up seeing the studio turn down movies that will do ok in favour of greenlighting turkeys due to some strange idea of whats successful.
