The Wizard Of Oz on Blu-Ray

I too am looking forward to seeing this. Apparently Warners have done an incredible job, and although the film had a restoration a few years ago, they've gone and given it a further overhaul, from various sources to give us an apparently amazing HD experience, and from reviews and screenshots I've seen, they've done an amazing job, getting 5 star ratings for PQ and AQ.... yep, cannot wait.
 
I saw it at a screening in NYC. Amazing quality. You can even see freckles on Judy's face
 
Yeah, saw those on the screenshots, never noticed them before, the times I've seen this film too. It was my son's favourite film when he was a toddler, "Ollogoz" as he used to call it. I can't wait to see the transition from sepia to full technicolour, I expect my eyes to melt!!!
 
There are people who believe this, as well as those that see no value in Bluray over DVD, it can only mean they have crap gear to watch it on, have poor vision or indeed haven't even seen it. Though saying that some Blurays are better than others, but even the lesser ones are 9 times out of 10 better than there DVD counterparts. I have the colourised Ray Harryhausens on Bluray, they look stunning, and for fairly cheap movies too. The original Day The Earth Stood Still looks great too... among many others.

But back to Oz, I don't think I've been this excited about a BD release for a while. It seems it's what the whole hi-def experience is all about, taking classics we all know so well and giving us a real visual (and hopefully audio) treat, I can't think of many other titles that could potentially benefit as much as TWoO.
 
I'm not! I'm gonna buy the bluray version, it's been extensively remastered and is in a far higher resolution, one that befits the TV I have.
 
Um, you know the film industry exists because people are prepared to 'double dip'- buy films they've already seen, or own earlier copies of. If it didn't happen the big 5 (Fox, Sony, Universal, Warner Bros and Disney) would collapse.
 
There are so many films coming out over the next couple of months, xmas and all that, and I'm soooo skint too. Apart from the oldies, there a re few new titles I have to get too.... i.e Moon and District 9. Gonna be a long xmas list!;)

IN the US there is a spectacular boxset of the Wizard of Oz with all sorts of bonus features - although some are unnecessary.

I've ordered North By Northwest from the US as it comes with a book not included on the UK set.

Warner have released fancy box sets on Bluray in the US of Blade Runner,Harry Potter and Dirty Harry (I have imported them all ) yet none have come out here.

All we get are the films in a slim box , sod all else and more than a year later.
 
Same with Fox and Planet of the Apes Evolution set, the US got a beautiful box set and envy inducing book, we get a standard fat Bluray box with films in card slip case..... I'm still quite angry over the whole debacle! :cry:
 
That was the release that finally made me go and buy a multiregion Bluray player.

The book is a large 200 page hardcover book not some tiny little thing.

And the UK is still to get the long version of Battle for the Planet of the Apes.
It was included in the most recent R1 dvd release and as part of the US Apehead boxset but the UK Apehead boxset did not include it and the UK Bluray only has the additional 10 minutes as isolated deleted scenes wheras the US set allows you to watch the movie with them in their proper place.
 
I would love to see the book, and I've even considered just getting the set for the book, and buying the UK set and swapping the discs over. But the issues you've said about Battle is one reason to wait for a miracle release over here of a set to rival the US one...... wishful thinking me thinks! I will only buy the UK set when it gets a lot cheaper........... I'm still soooo gutted. :cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:
