The Wii costs Nintendo only $158 to build...

Game licensing fees.

Go Nintendo for making money hand over fist. Hopefully it'll be put into R&D for their next system (HD ).

yup.

accessories and game licensing.

look up how much a controller costs to make - and compare that to the price u see on the shelf.

Its the way Nintendo have always been.

Microsoft and Sony pump tons of money into their product causing them to lose billions (Microsoft have lost over $1.2 billion on the 360 even with game sales).

Nintendo make money from the get go, they need to. Sony and Microsoft fall back on their funds from other markets.

Both are losing ALOT of money from this console war, its ridiculous.

Whats funny is that HD has been the norm for computer graphics for years now
I can't remember ever having a mornitor with a resolution lower than that of a TV.

Nintendo has to sell their consoles for profit becuase they can't fall back on other products like sony and microsoft can because they don't have other products other then video game shit.

Spending and losing are two different things--the whole idea behind the phrase you so eloquently used being you will make a return on your investment. Nintendo spent money to make money, Sony and MS spent money to lose it (I specifically say spent money TO lose it because they knew they were going to incur a loss before they even began). Even with monster sales from accessories and falling back on other segments of their respective businesses, it's hard to get back in the black from a $1 BILLION loss for SONY and MS. From the estimates, Nintendo is slated to make over $150 MILLION from Wii sales alone (sans accessories) just from the holiday sales market.
