The White Stripes

'Get Behind Me Satan' is easily the best White Stripes album to date. It somewhat suprises me that fans are not satisfied. That the songs lack guitar driving them along shouldn't be considered a negative aspect. These songs are driven by Jack's vocals, giving it a more personal feel. Lyrically, Jack gives a commendable effort. His alliteration and rhyming in phrases is 'rap-like' at times, adding to the Jack's coninued focus on beat and rhythm (listen to the way the last 'then there is a SIN-NER TOO' is belted out smack dab on time along with Meg's drums in a heart racing crescendo). I must admit that the constant word play and other literary devices distracts from lyrical meaning at times. However, Jack is still relatively young and I believe his writing will continue to improve. The point of the album still comes accross to me, but it seems it has escaped most people (I have yet to read a review mentioning this) -- The album is about his non-existent love life, folks. And Jack is depressed. Love is an apparition to him - a "Little ghost". He wants love so bad he just keeps on thinking about the doorbell ringing. But it doesn't. He knows he seems ugly to people. What can he do? I'll admit the 'Meg the sister/brother/lover' thing is strange, but interesting as well. We know he certainly loves his Mother and the rest of his family, but, incest? "I aint that lonely yet' he tells us. Yet? Whew. Never for me. But Yet means there is a chance it could get to that point. Or does it? His sister just might be Meg. Regardless, this album certainly proves that Jack is indeed an artist. Not quite Bob Dylan, but people don't want that nowadays, anyhow. I'm quite content with the direction he's going ... so long he doesn't get to my sis.

Is it just me or does jack white look alot like edward scissorhanRAB and sigourney weavers oRABpring??

AMAZING!

Its not the same beat everytime, its just very basic, so what?, is that very important?, meg white isnt any different than phil rudd of AC/DC, they both add something to the music, they arent technical at all, and they are not very good either, but they at least keep the rhythm, which is really whats important, plus they both have to play without the help of a bass player, so they deserve credit for that. :thurab:

Well, the first albums I got from them were White Blood Cells and Elephant. I could never understand why Elephant was the highest regarded of the two. Every track on WBC is brilliant; so raw and stripped down Jack's guitar, and (no matter what people say) Meg's drumming, is perfect. It's interesting, other drummers in the garage rock revival play the same style, yet only Meg gets the ****. People just get scared if the drummer doesn't have a ****. Anyway, I must've listened through WBC 20 timies, pure awesomeness.

I don't care for them much. For one reason, Sarah(it is sarah right?) White is a horrible drummer, at least she dosen't do anything really good. And I can't stand Jack's voice. He is a great song writer though

Exactly. I could have ratuanas, Iguanas and rats... Or pows, pigs and cows... Its gonna be fun :)

*Ahem* Right, back on topic. I dont like the white strpies, but I havent heard any of the earlier stuff which Ive heard is better..

Supposed track titles include;

Catch Hell Blues
I'm Slowly Turning Into You
Little Cream Soda
Rag And Bone
Icky Thump
You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You're Told)
Conquest
What Love Is

The tracks, "Icky Thump", "What Love Is" and "Conquest." are described as... "an experimental, heavy sounding 70s riff", "a strong, melodic love song" and "an unexpected mix of big guitars and a bold horn section".

SounRAB interesting.

Now this band I love! I especially like Dejistill....pretty ****in' good for a guy and his sister huh? Feedback plz...... :band:

Look on the bright side.
Next time up, get tickets early and make sure they're better than the ones you had.

You're loss is my gain. I couldn't afford the tickets at the time they went on sale...holiday/wife's birthday = being skint.
I'll be ready next time though...credit card poised.

I don't see it other than the hair maybe, but to go back to what adidass said, The Denial Twist and Doorbell are funky badass songs. I love the denial twist.
