The White Stripes

You know this is something I greatly appreciate about the stripes as well. I think in this regard Jack is a folk musician, recycling, interpolating, and carrying on a tradition that was global and has been forever. To me, public domain songs are the best kind. Refined like wine over centuries of time, you don't get better than Wayfaring Stranger, House of the Rising Sun, or in Jacks case "one more cup of coffee" and "St. James Infirmary Blues"

I'm hoping they cover Tom Wait's "I don't want to grow up" or Neil Young's "After the gold rush"

meh, LedZepStu lives in England...maybe it comes out at a different time to you, unless you live in Boston in the UK....anyhoo i've heard blue orchid, and i rather like it.

Ban this idiot as well. ;) That made me laugh ^

His post in the Fall review pissed me to begin with and now the Stripes thread...all his posts need deleting, every one a waste of space.

Are you from Detroit?

There first seems to stand as their weakest release to me, and the least Stripey of them all. That album was like the rough sketches of what the stripes were to become. I mean they still had some surf-influenced things which must have been left over from the Go, and so I think that album was more Jack White, than White Stripes.

Conquest should have been the opening album track! That intro...

On first listen, 300 M.P.H. Torrential Outpoor Blues is the outstanding track for me.

First impressions?...

Edit: Jesus Christ on a bike!...'A Martyr For My Love For You', has just hit me hard...strikes a personal chord. :(
The lyrics, the mooRAB that song evokes. Calm/manic. This song makes me nervous.

God I love this band.

End of enthusing.

Some of us like our music stripped down to it`s basics. I happen to enjoy music in it`s most basic form. You don`t need to drown everything in extended guitar solos & lavish production.

All you need is a guitar & some life experince , thats how the blues started after all & that was the cornerstone rock music was built on. Just because we have much better technology now doesn`t mean the music being made on it is better.

I know they're simplified, and I know they chose to have no bassist, but I don't think it was a good choice at all. Plus, I am aware that meg white didn't start out as a drummer, but it still doesn't change the fact that she's not all that talented. No matter what, there's something missing in their sound without a bass, and meg's drumming definitely leaves something to be desired. It doesn't matter why they're not great, just the fact that they AREN'T is all that matters. that's my opinion anyways.

I like them accutally, the new album is kind of okey,:). I like hardest button to button, Seven nation Army, In the cold, cold night and the black math. But their music is kind of wierd som times, and in their worst times they really suck....

new single - on first listen i thought it sounded disjointed. it lacked a flow. i didnt like how the verse went to the chorus... that pause just annoyed me. However, upon many further listens, i've realised i love it. Its experimental without being DOUBLE-YEW-TEE-EFF and the lyrics i think are some of the strongest he's written.

Im seeing them at the wireless festival, i actually cannot wait.

I liked it... They are definately keeping their signature sound, but it's also new and fresh. If that even makes any sense...

Try this link (I dunno why my upload wont work for you and I think they removed it from mininova). It's named Sticky Icky for some reason....

Out of curiosity, you did replace the x's with t's right?

It's my favourite because i think it strikes the best balance between variance in music and brilliant rock tunes (the singles taken off it are the best out of all the albums i'd say). I also think Jack White is at his most romantic here, there's a strong love concept throughout the album and songs like Dead Leaves and I Can't Wait are some of his most heartfelt.

I feel special... I saw them this past summer at Music Midtown in Georgia. It was awesome, but they played two days after GBMS came out and they were playing all the songs and I didn't have the cd yet so I had no idea what most of them were. But Jack has such stage presence... He was dressed up like a madador and the stage was all red. and i saw them bitches
