The Village

Well i really enjoyed it - another great flick from the man!
And another excuse to see joaquin! YUM!

Bryce Howard is a fantastic actress I was very impressed with her, she will go on to be a big star!

Totally didn't see the twist coming but I try not to look for them anyway.

I went to see it tonight and thought it was good - better than Signs and Unbreakable.

I sussed early on that there wasn't actually anything in the wooRAB and that it was done by the elders to keep them in but wasn't sure why. When we came out my girlfriend said she'd decided earlier that they'd set up the community to get away from the outside world but thought there were monsters....so between us we'd sussed it! Clever though....I realised the 2nd bit when they were looking at the clippings. When the blind girl was in the wooRAB and the "monster" was there I actually thought it was her imagination - that she'd heard a wolf but was "seeing" the monster. For those of you wondering how they could live in a nature reserve....Walker was a Billionairew so had bought the area and got it fenced off and arranged for the security etc

You get the box to type your message in - above that are various options like on a word processor program for bold, italics etc...the last one of those is a grey S

Not timid, just very jumpy and I scare easily :o
It was only when Ivy was hiding by the tree and the monster/Noah was behind her I wondered was the monster real. Became very clear when his parents were going on about how he must have found one of the costumes.

Yes I'm clicking post reply!

It's still not there! Aaaaaaaah this is killing me  Right. That's it. I'm going to take a screenshot and you guys can see if you can see it... I feel so stupid :D

See, now, people say there's a twist....so I look for one!!

THANKS PEEPS!!

(I know, I shouldn't........but I just can't help myself!)

Oh my actual god. I'm so shocked. I thought this was one of the worst films I have ever seen

I wasn't looking out for the twists but spotted them very early on and I thought the lead actress was awful.

Seems like I am in the minority but I would not recommend this to anyone. If you really want to see it, wait until it's out on DVD.

Ugh

I just thought it was all very pointless, like a poor episode of the twilight zone. I saw it after watching all the trailers which tried to make it look like something it wasn't.

It was a ghost story without ghosts, and a horror story without any horror. If it had been billed as a period drama with a twist, then maybe my expectations wouldn't have been so high, but then I definitely wouldn't have bothered going to see it.

I felt cheated.

That sums me up. :) I thought the acting was very good, the characters were magical and because I had read or seen hardly anything about it, I didn't see any of the twists coming, didn't even see

the attempted murder of Lucius by the village fool

coming until just a few seconRAB before.

I wouldn't put this film into the horror or thriller genre at all. It's much more a study of people.

The ending I did find a bit disappointing, but nevertheless I'd like to see this again, so I can study the minute details where the twists are being hinted at and also just to enjoy Bryce Dallas Howard all over again. :)

I've only just recently seen films by M. Night Shyamalan, because they were on telly (The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable) and I really enjoyed them, that was really why I went to see this one.

Alright here is a screenshot:

so was it only the 'elders' that chaired the meetings that knew about the 'towns', i noticed there were other older people, surely they knew? and if they did, did the know about the 'creatures'? or was only the main 'elders' that knew about the 'creatures'?

Alternatively - when you are typing your message look at the icons above.....theres a grey "S"...select that then a box comes up to type your text into, or select ok so it puts the spoiler buffers in and then type between them...saves the possibility of getting it wrong if you are typing the buffers yourself

I've just seen this film and thought it was excellent. Hubby thought it was "OK", but then that's high praise from him when a film has no exploding heaRAB or zombies.

I sort of guessed the main twist halfway through in that I was thinking "What's the twist?" and I wondered.... pure luck that I was right, cos I don't often get these things.

I thought there were still monsters in the wood because the father chap used to teach history and said there were rumours about monsters, but I was wrong. The part with Noah stabbing Lucius (or should that be luscious? :)) made me gasp - it was so unexpected.

I would never have considered Joaquin Pheonix as a romantic lead before, but the two scenes early in the film where Ivy holRAB out her hand, searching for him and he finRAB her and grabs her hand were perfectly done - very sweet and effective.

Sometimes it's the little things that make all the difference in a movie. M. Night Shyamalan is a very clever man.

I'm going to see The Village tonight  I get scared very easily... am I going to be terrified? I hardly ever see horror films - I was even scared in Harry Potter so maybe this isn't such a good idea....... :D People seem to have mixed reactions as to whether it's good or bad. Oh well, I'll see tonight!
