The Village

Hey,

Saw this last week, just wondering what others thought about it? Did you spot the "twist" before it happened?

I was actually thinking for the first 20 minutes, when is this set? - I also thought to myself, if the time period that the film is set in is modern day, and if this is the main twist... Well, that sucks!
I normally don't get twists in films, no matter how obvious they are, unless I try to think outside of the box... I like to take a film at face value, and think about it afterwarRAB.
Was it just me, or was the whole end to the film a MASSIVE anticlimax?

Watchable film anyways, blind character's actress does a good job.
Anyone got some views on it?

W.

Unfortunate!!

I never try to spot twists and just watch them. Consequently it just blew me away and I was laughing out loud at the cleverness of it. Ditto with 6th sense. I feel sorry for those of you that feel obliged to try and look for and find the twists, which will ruin the film ;-))

Probably just the normal indication of "danger". The creatures wore red cloaks so that's probably why the villagers were wary of the colour.

(Of course, there may be a much deeper significance.)

I wasn't sure if it was a twist though, as I had been just thinking about that randomly for some reason... So, unfortunately, the film was ruined slightly because I was trying to piece some stuff together that was bugging me... Ah well.

Yes I spotted the twist(s) within the first five minutes, but it was still an entertaining enough film for an hour and a half - probably worth a watch, but nothing special.

Twas just a way of keeping everyone in the village! Remember back in "olden times" people were a lot more supersticious than they are now, so i guess the elders thought it up to help keep the rumours going. And it worked!

Well, I went last night! I thought it was great. I'm so slow though, I didn't get ANY of the twists until they actually happened :o

Even when they showed the photograph of the elders all in modern clothes, I still didn't realise! Haha. I didn't realise it was set in modern day until she climbed over the fence and the car pulled up :D The only thing I didn't get was who on the outside knew the village existed? No one? Because that guy said something about not letting aeroplanes fly over it... so someone must have known?

i think the village was one of the best friend i have seen in along time, i did not try to guess the twist so the film was so great to watch i think the twist was good and really quiet funny

I felt that it was totally misrepresented by the trailers and adverts which make it seem like some kind of supernatural horror. It's a shame the story didn't have more substance to it, I was very disappointed.

I had guessed that they had fled some kind of world wide plague or nuclear war. The actual twist was pretty lame and didn't really make much sense.

How did they manage to build the village in the middle of a wildlife reserve without anyone noticing? Didn't they light fires? Wouldn't someone would have noticed the smoke? Are we supposed to believe that for at least two generations, none of the park rangers ever entered the reserve? Also, if they were supposed to be living in a wildlife reserve, where was all the wildlife?

also, adding to this, the director (im not going to try and spell his name!), likes to puts red thngs in his films. Remember sixth sense? There were alot of red things ni that which signified something in the story - the red balloon, the red door knob etc.

In response to Joe Beard....

Wasnt the guy who created it a billionaire? I thought thats what the newspaper said when it was shown, so he probably just paid to keep it that way. There is probably a lot more to the story than we currently know, like maybe he keeps in contact outside to keep up the payments or something :D
.

I didnt spot the twist...until
just as they were about to open the black box, i just thought what if??? And i was right ! Still i enjoyed it, however i did think the first hour or so did go veeeeeeeery slowly!

I was just disappointed that......

The twist was that there weren't any ghosts or monsters or anything supernatural at all. Some of the reviews of this film start off by calling it a ghost story!

Yeah afterwarRAB I realised that the name on the side of the rangers car was Walker, so I guess that the reserve was actually owned by him?

here are my questions :

why were they actually in the village? was it because they ("the leaders") had actually experienced some bad times in the town and therefore moved to safety? and there was one thing about some government people being paid off or something.. was that them?? plus the man in the walker pickup - was he expecting the visit for the medicine? and did he [insert name here] survive when receiving the medicine. and the blind woman [insert name here!] how come she managed to see her hand change colour?

overall i was disappointed with the film, but if it has kept some open questions in my head then it must have had some impact!

Thank you hilary! I couldn't find it either but thought I was just being a dumb blonde not to be able to see it. Also tried the other way of typing spoiler then what I wanted to put in then spoiler again and it didn't work for me either...............maybe I am a dumb blonde.
Actually I'm not sure if the page always displays correctly for me. Sometimes I don't get the new thread starter tab and the one that allows you to reply directly to someone else's post. Does this happen to you?
